I've discovered that I have to click several times or in certain places on certain objects/inventory items before it'll activate.

For example, in my inventory GUI there is an axe. If I click the transparent area it doesn't select it. Same with the handle. If I click the actual axe-head though, it works...why is this? It's driving me crazy.

Is it something to do with the inventory icon's transparency?

If so how do I fix this?

I'm using SSH's Description module which is great.

My question is, is there anyway to disable to Descriptions of Object/Hotspots etc when the mouse cursor is in wait mode? It looks sloppy when a cutscene is on but the player can still move the cursor and display the hotspots' and objects' descriptions.

Thanks in advance.

I've modified the standard AGS Inventory GUI. It's activated by moving the mouse to the top of the screen where it appears in a long strip, much like Broken Sword.

When I click on an inventory item the GUI just vanishes and my cursor remains the same as it was. It doesn't seem to select the item at all.

I'm using AGS 3.0 and haven't changed any of the GUI code, I've simply rearranged it all.

Any ideas?

I've searched on the forums for an answer for this and there are some. However, these date back to 2004 and 2005 so the scripting is obsolete and any attempt by myself to recode it in the latest language failed miserably.

When the player left-clicks I want to make my character WALK around the screen as normal but I also want it to INTERACT with objects too when I left-click on a hotspot/object.

When the player right-clicks on the mouse I want it to either LOOK/TALK to objects/characters/hotspots.

Can anybody offer any advice on this please?

General Discussion / HEY YOU GUYS!!!
Fri 11/07/2008 15:43:17
Just got my son watching The Goonies on DVD, I must of watched it about 24 times in the space of a week with him lol...but my God is it a great kids film.

It's a shame there's no films made like this nowadays for kids, the world's too PC. The Goonies had the kids saying 'shit', 'crap', there were penis jokes, it's EXACTLY how kids behave at that age. Nowadays our kids are spoonfed fairytale goody-goody 2-shoe-type CGI generated movie nonsense.

I'm guessing a load of you guys and gals must of seen this movie? And if so, what do you think of it?

Will somebody PLEASE explain to me what exactly RON games are? I believe it stands for Reality-Of-The-Norm, right?

What ARE they exactly?

If this thread has potential to be deleted/locked because it's been asked a million times before then please go ahead and do that :) I searched and searched the boards but found no detailed explanation as to what RON games are.

Perhaps a sticky thread to introduce newcomers to the world of RON? (Whatever it may be, lol)

General Discussion / Bad Phrasing?
Wed 09/07/2008 09:51:50
I know it's a very serious topic but I couldn't help but double-take when noticing the news headline on my AOL account this morning:

Surely they could of phrased it slightly different?

I'm designing a room for a game I'm currently making.

It could be just me but I find that if you have the game's music playing in the background WHILST your creating it it actually helps get your 'creative juices' flowing so to speak.

Does anybody else do anything like this when designing/coding? If not I recommend it :)

Adventure Related Talk & Chat / Broken Sword 5

Anybody have any ideas wether or not there'll be a fifth instalment in the Broken Sword series?

I believe Broken Sword 4 was a reasonable success so I suppose there's nothing stopping them.

I know that there's apparently a movie based on the game in the works but aren't sure wether or not it's just a fanboy rumour.

How do you guys go about coding your game whilst waiting for the background art to be created by your team?

Rough outline sketches? And how do you then import the background once it's complete without loosing all your hotspots etc? Or if you can import without loosing them then how do you reallign them with the new background?

Just wondered how you guys did it.

Critics' Lounge / Any Good?
Mon 30/06/2008 01:02:18
320x200, I'm having a dilemma. I want my game to be high resolution but it's extremely hard to draw in that quality. What do you all think?

#33
An object I am using in one of the rooms is literally the bottom right quarter of the original background drawing but with some slight alterations - when the object is called this will create an animation-style effect.

However, despite being the original background drawing EXACT bottom right corner, the object seems IMPOSSIBLE to align up in AGS. It can appear fine in AGS itself but when I run the game the object is always slightly off.

I'm running the game at 800x600.

Any suggestions?
#34
I've searched on the forum but found no answers.

When I compile my game it doesn't compile the musicx files (i.e. music1.ogg, music2.ogg) etc. The files play fine when I excecute the game from AGS itself but upon trying to run it from the compiled folder I receive a warning that the music files weren't found.

When designing the game, I've been placing my musicx.ogg files in the actual folder created by AGS at startup - e.g. C:\Users\Darren\FL

(FL being my game folder)

What am I doing wrong?

Thankyou.

General Discussion / Temper
Sun 08/06/2008 19:25:09
Is it just me or does anyone else feel like kicking off when you're trying to focus all your concentration on the game you're designing and someone interupts with pathetic things like asking for you to do the lawn or asking you to go to the shop. Does anyone else just feel like giving in because it's pointless trying to attempt to complete your game???
#37
Ok, so I have my object (a cloud) and I want it to appear from off the left-handside of the screen and disappear off the right. I can do this so far...well, to an extent.

The thing is, I can't have my cloud start off screen, it has to be ON screen before I can code it to move off screen. Is this because of the walkable area?

If this is the case then how can I have my cloud enter smoothly from offscreen if they can only move on walkable areas? Obviously there's no walkable area off-screen.

Any help would be appreciated.

I'm using AGS 3.0.

#38
I'm using AGS 3.0.

My walk cursor doesn't seem work unless I right-click through all my cursors back to WALK again, then it works.

I started designing my game with a blank template so is the default icon not set to WALK? I'm using one cursor design for all interation icons.

How do I set the game to automatically start by default on the WALK cursor?

My first venture into 3D backgrounds. Any suggestions?

Does it capture the mood of isolation?
