Adventure Related Talk & Chat / Re: Heavy Rain

Game releases like this always make me laugh, simply because this type of game has been around for decades but because there's been a massive gap since the early 90's, Heavy Rain is hailed a ground-breaking experience. I'm still happy though, at least the genre's making a come back.

Think of it this way.

If a company YOU own makes a successful series of games and then an outsider comes in and makes an unofficial sequel, your beloved series will always be associated with that from then on. It was THEIR series of games (despite being handed over) and they had every right to do what they did.

When I was younger I made a series of amateur horror films. Four in fact, and uploaded them to the internet. A couple of months later another amateur group decided they wanted to make a 5th instalment. Bear in mind there would be no financial gain for either of us, I still said no to them. The reason being it was MY series of films and I made them how I wanted.

That's just my opinion on it.

Played and completed it. Absolutely...CHILLING. The artwork is so beautiful and really suits the whole dream-like atmosphere of the story.

Absolutely fantastic, I can't say any more than that!

Marionette 2?

Sorry to drag this up again but has there been any update on a Wii port to allow us to play AGS games?

Just completed it! Wonderful game and couldn't recommend it enough.

I like the '5 Days a Stranger' and 'Day of the Tentacle' references - brilliant!

I'm intrigued however:

Spoiler

Is Chapter II going to be featuring the same main character despite him appearing to be left with no hope at the end of Part I?

Hmmm...

Spoiler

Read the papers in the library, rumbled Victoria who in turn gave me a page from a diary. However, I'm unable to speak to Michael about Tabitha, should there be an option there? I'm going around in circles trying to get into the Maursoleum. Any ideas?

I cannot for the life of me work out what to do when:

Spoiler

I've just been awoken to screaming on my first night. I can't go downstairs or access any of the other rooms. When I try to head downstairs I'm told 'I have to help Sarah.'

Any suggestions please?

I'm not sure if it's a bug or it's just me being unable to work out a puzzle but:
Spoiler

I've just gone to sleep for the first time and awoken to a scream but can't do anything. It won't let me go downstairs because he just keeps saying 'I've got to help Sarah. and I can't get in any of the other doors.

Not a bug, it's you being unable to work out that puzzle  ;)

Nothing new there then ;)

I'm very very impressed with the overall feel of the game. The voice-acting is superb and really helps enhance the experience - what kind of Noir detective game would be complete without the detective narrating? Brilliant.

Also, is it my display or have you added a 'live-grain' look to the backgrounds?

Slightly off-topic but what materials/software are you using? Is it digitally created or hand-drawn and coloured? I'm curious because it's stunning!

I hate games where the very beginning is just an endless amount of exits leading off to rooms full up with too much inventory all the time not knowing what your mission is.

Any game examples?

The Longest Journey, although it turned out ok in the end.

This might not make sense to some but to those who DO understand, I'm sure you'll agree with me, even if you didn't realise it before:

Adventures set at sunset/dusk really create a good sense of fun and adventure. I think this was actually the Secret of Monkey Island. Have a good think about how Melée Island was such a fun first chapter to play. It really had that 'feel' about it.
#158
I like the COMI cursors and font used but like everyone else, I think the controls are a bit hit and miss. Still, it FEELS like a Monkey Island game and that's what matters :)

Atleast it appears LucasArts may be 'trying' to claim back some of their golden days since the reintroduction of the point 'n' click genre. I just wished they'd release full games rather than these silly little flash-style episode games. It kind of takes away the fun.

We got ours from here: http://voice123.com/ and were amazed how many people responded. The website is a god-send.

TerranRich...Put up a post, you'll be pleasantly surprised :)
