Critics' Lounge / Re: Bald Eagle - Photoshop

I can really tell you spent a lot of detail time on the face and eye and I hope you finish the rest of the detailing becuase it does look like a bad mesh of to different styles.  Since you used a photo reference I am probably wrong but the head seems a little vertically squished.  But overall very good.

Critics' Lounge / Re: game GUI

I like it althought it might take up a bit of space leaving less room for the background.
also for a darker game I think some desaturation is needed although a creepier kinda game doesn't always have to be darker( I guess it depends on the actual style of the background)

A possible matching inventory could be the inside of the book with maybe a handwritten inventory list or a sketchy drawing of the items

Critics' Lounge / Re: My first background

I love the atmosphere probably fits better into a bleak sci fi kinda game (the suit reminds me of the Big Daddy from BioShock) rather then a comedy,  but I since this one background was just a test I guess you can change the style.
About the only critique would be I am not sure how useful it would be as a room only becuase it has very limited walkable area & there doesn't seem to be much of the exit.  The suit and the large machine on the right seems to block any exits.  Maybe moving some of the foreground stuff lower on the screen could help.

Ok still in the planing phase of this one and just had a few questions maybe you wizards can answer.

If I am going to use objects and there are multiple pages(ie Rooms) and each room would come close to the object limit.

How much would this affect performance, in other words would I have quite a bit of slowdown?

And if there is a great amount of slowdown is there another way to go about this?

ArjOn - I did have it backed up to the point where the demo is right now so all that stuff exists thankfully, but... I had done quite a bit of work after the demo and that stuff has been lost

Cosmo- I really glad you enjoyed playing and of course there will be a plot to it beside stealing things but I am glad you liked the theiving parts to it.

Ryan - Thank you and I agree with you when you think about it many adventure game "heroes" are moralilly reprehensible.  They feel like oh this isn't mine but it will help me out...I am sure this person won't mind if I "aquire" this.

Abstauber
thanks for the insights.  I wish I could take credit for the music and leave it in there but I stole and have given no credit to the artist (probably should the Musicains name is Rob Price from his Album At Sunset for anyone interested.)  I totally agree with you about what needs improvement.  Originally there was no intro and the player just kinda began in this alley so as just a helpful hint I figured I would have someone tell you what you needed to do might take it out might not.

I am loving all the great feedback I am getting and it is good to hear all complaints and the encouragement keep it up guys.

Critics' Lounge / Help With Character Design
Sun 24/05/2009 18:08:54
I recently posted a demo for everyone to play and have had some comments about the main characters design.

Overall I am fairly happy with the look the only thing that bugs me is the front view.  so maybe yall could help.  Feel free to paint over and change it however you wish.  Any pointers would be greatly appreciated.

If you haven't tried the demo and would like to here is the post for that

Ok this is dealling with the same project but a different question I have decided to go with a object.tint to chage the color now I was wonder as far as a gui goes using the Gui Idea in the original Picture

Is there anyway within the global script to have to assign the different gui buttons to tint the different objects without having to set it up each time in the room editor in other words something to the effect that it would detect what x is as you click ithe object.

object
  • .tint(0,0,250,30,100)  (x being the different object in the different rooms)

sorry to ask such questions but my scripting is rather shoddy.

After winning the last Colouring Ball Competition, I went out and partied.  Probably a little to hard becuase when I got up this morning I had a tattoo on my chest, but for the life of me I can't tell what it is.  Maybe you can help...

Is a classic 8 bit character... is it a heart with I love Steve... just make whatever you want.

Rules of the game...

You can flip or rotate it
You can't resize the image
You can only use 9 colors
and finally once you complete your design you must be willing to get it tattooed on your body (only kidding)
Final submissions due June 2nd to be judged... unless more time is needed let me know

Thank you no appluase please... it was a tough competetion and to all my competitors well played, but to the winner go the spoiles.... expect a new colouring Ball soon.

Again thanks to everyone for playing the Demo.
I encourage anyone to play and if you hate it let me know.  or if you like it let me know.  Anain thanks for the very insightful comments.  The game is some what meant to an open world where you can still however little or much you want and then the big boss would kinda grade you on how you did... the original story was much longer and gott more involved but I found my expertise to be lacking and after awhile I forgot what was meant to be fun.  I agree with you some what about the Lucasarts style GUI I originally wanted it that way becuase with a theif game I wanted a bunch of different verb actions, and using that gui is an as lot harder to program for.  I guess I just like torture...

Sephiroth gotten your PMs I am glad you have been so active about this keep it up you might get a line in the credits :)

I apprieciate everyone's support and heck even if it is a one line comment like "THIS GAME SUCKS EGGS" at least I can use that as a quote for publicity :)

Hoping for more Crit

J. Man and Ascovel thanks for giving it a spin I glad ya'll seemed to enjoy it.  When doing a game sometimes I guess you get kinda lost as to wether it is "fun" or not.  I hope it was fun and trust me if I had the ability I think this game would turn out very different, but with solely me on the project with limited skill I can only do some much.

Kaputtnik, cyrus and neon Thanks for giving the demo a try.  I am glad you all enjoyed.  Thanks for the very extensive critque Kaputnik I can see man of your points and probably agree with most unfortunately as a one man team my full fledge idea for this game can't really be reached, but you always have to make some sacrifices.  and cyrus no that really isn't a spoiler I used a template for the scumm engine and that was one of the rooms included in the template which I have not erased yet.  Neon thanks for the bug report working on fixing it now again thanks and I encourage anyone else to give it a try and post your thoughts
