Phelix the Phlying Pheline Phenom

Not sure why this came to my head when I saw this post but I knew he had to have a helmet becuase you can never be to safe when you are purring at 100 mph.

Not quite sure if it meets with qualifications as the portion between the cape and the tail is not part of the "image" but I will let the commitee decide on my fate  ;D

Just curious what people thought about wether it would be useful.  I know people can just post a request for help, but seems like it can get lost in the shuffle.

Hey thanks Guys
I have not really looked at this but I am planning to.  I had to do stuff for Easter Holiday
....

Well Ponch I tried your attempt might be useful if you could paint over the objects with another color after painting with one.

Found a Module done by SHS called ReadBMP might be helpful might not have not messed with it yet.

Also TrentR I could still use objects and just group certain things together like the rocks might be one object and the walls of the house be one object and so forth, but you are right that would quite limit the detail that could be done on a page at a time.  and would be very time consuming unless maybe the object gives decent results.

Ok this is a rather broad question seeing as how I haven't even started on the concept but I am think about trying to do a simple coloring book using ags.  So mostly I am looking for people to rack thier brains and come up with some any kind of solutions...

My thought was to basically have a gui of the average paint colors Red Orange Yellow Green Blue and Purple (there would be no paint brushes or anything to complicated just filling areas on the screen)  and then within the "room"  have a bunch of white objects grouped together to create a picture like you would see in any kids coloring book.  So then basically have to do 7 colored versions of that object so if it were 20 objects there would have to be about 160 different spirtes dealing with that room.  Here is just kinda a rough layout to help get the idea...

So I guess my main question would be is there a less space consuming way to achieve what I am trying to do?

Thanks to everybody for the support.
I have done a little work on some of the backgrounds but won't post them right now.
#49
That works somewhat but if you walk to another point bu just say using something on the other side of the room it does not stop the player it allows them to go right over it.

Just finished the game and loved it.  Your stories albiet short contain a lot of great things.  I would love to see more adventures with Shifters Box.  And with how quickly you are getting these out I can expect my request by...next week by the latest? Only Kidding, seriously keep up the great work.

Right now I have a part in my game that I want the player to walk over a certain area and when he walks on it the floor boards creak and he backs up saying something about the floor being squeaky then the player can use an inventory item say like grease to turn off the effect of the squeeky floor is there an easy way to do this without using very much code or none at all?

I really like the look of it so far.  I agree with Snarky definitely work on the mansion.  I know  it is still rough so I sure it will match the quality of the character when you are finished.  the only thing that is really bugging me right now is the girls hand it look a little man-ish it seems very large for a feminine hand

Thanks everyone for the comments.  Wayne I agree with you but find it difficult to show that that foreground building has a rounded corner without the lines.  The game started out as something so much bigger but one of my firends convinced me to just get something done, so when I do release it let me know what ya'll think and it could turn into something much bigger.  Also not sure if I did a bigger version if I would use the b&W style as it can get straining on the old eyeballs.  Keep posting becuase each post that is made an angel gets its wings or something like that.  (Well it helps encourage me to get this thing finished)

I really like the interior shoots of the house very nice.  The outside however seems a bizzare mix of CG and photo I think also the lighting seems off some how.  I would like to hear more of the story idea but looks interesting so far.

I am excited to announce my first game in Production

DERVISH LARSEN IN ALL THE SHINY THINGS

Story:
I know what you’re thinking,
“Oh great another Private Eye, another hero come to get the dame, save the day, and take no reward except the honor of being truthful, honorable and valiant…”  Well, I ain’t none of those.  All those stereotypes about hoodlums, well, stuff those into a crate, wrap it in a bag of flesh and bone, and that is me.
If some schmuck tries to tell you, “Oh, this guy is scum.  Don’t worry the good guys will get him.”  Bah, Let me set you straight, kid.  Ain’t nobody good left in the world even the police will turn a blind eye if the price is right.  Knights, Damsels, Slaying the Evil Dragon, all Fairy Tale stuff.  There is only two kindsa people; you and the rest of the world…Who you gonna trust?
But enough about that…Hmmm…Me?  You want to know who I am that I can make such sweeping generalities?  I ain’t nobody, at least here in Darq City, I ain’t nobody.  Back home, they call me Dervish Larsen, well except, Tommy ‘Two Teeth’ he calls me dead, which is why I decided to pick up stakes and try my luck in Darq City.  Course if yous be needin' it in plain english... I am a thief, a grifter, anything laying around I 'll use the old 5 finger discount.
(Since there seems to be confusion about the actual plot of the game I will put it in plan english, and not just let dervish ramble on about nothing in particular.  Dervish arrives in Darq City with no money becuase he is running away from a gangster back west.  Now to even survive or to even just have a place to sleep, Dervish must steal, and it is your job to help him steal as much as possible.)

*UPDATE*
March 6 2009
I did some major work on scripting today...which always seems to take me forever...not much of a programmer here so I have to always test and retest my code.  Also created a new animation for the dervish character, and have edited the some of the backgrounds based on you guys suggestions.  Thanks so much for the posts, it really helps to encourage me and push me closer to a final product.

Ok Well I regret to inform you that I have done little work on the project... the grind of scripting stikes again but for those of you interested and those of you not, here is a demo I put together not sure if I will get in trouble for asking for comment on it so I suppose I will start a post in CNC forum.

Well as it seems to be my luck. My Computer CRASHED :( luckily most of the work I had perviously done was saved on my external hard drive, but all the new work I had put into it has vanished, which is disheartening but I shall prevail.  I guess if you haven't tried it yet the demo is still availble.

October 14 2009
After taking a bit of a break I have decided to step away from this game.  It was my first game I worked on and I think my goal was far to big for a first time.  I still would like to develop it but I need to brush up on my coding and other things becuase I really like my idea and story and want to wait until I have more skills so I can better create my enitre vision for the game.  I am currently working on some smaller games to get me more smarterer :)... Anyway I will leave up the demo, and if people really want me keep work on it post and let me know.

Well not sure if this is a good sign or a bad sign... either the poster is near perfect so no comment is needed or (well I will just hope that it is that close to perfect instead the other option.
#58
Ok well i was kinda busy it being Thanksgiving here in the states but thanks for the comments hopefully I fixed some of the problems but I also have a different layout  let me know which you like better either the first one I posted or this new one also feel free to give me other advice...

There are several things I like about this one ( the house is more prominently displayed, The title is clearer and resembles the orginal cover art (thanks Snarky and Garage Goth you were both right)  I guess sometimes you lose perspective and thus is the reason for posting on the critic's board.

Anyway back on topic there are some things I don't like (seems more empty, I liked including the other ghosts, and for some reason the lady with the skull looks wonky flipped backwards) anyway I might be crazy but let me know.

I am currently working on a quasi sequel  to the old Sierra game Colonel's Bequest.
I was just wanting yalls input about how to make the poster better.
The layout seems kinda heavy on the left side but I will let yall decide and not try to influence.

I think the list on wikipedia further proves my point that a good christian game needs to be made.  ;D
