I submit the first chapters of my ongoing story, Back to Reality. It's part of a bigger story that will ultimatly span ten or so chapters, but the first couple can stand on their own quite nicely.

Chapter One.

Chapter Two.

A basket of muffins for anyone who can hazard a guess as to the identity of Julian's ancestor.

Yup, me again.Ã,  ;D
I've never played any RON games but I wanted to try something different and maybe give the fans something to drool over so:

Hehe, I know I'm good. :)

:o

The cow! THE COW!!!

Whoa nelly. That is AMAZING. You should so put that into a RON game.

EDITED by moderator: please don't quote whole post including images, especially when it's just 2 posts above yours, thank you.

Here are some screenshots from Reality on the Norm - The Return of Frank Malone. I have also added these into the topic.

BTW, the RON movie maker - the idea KICKS. RIGHTEOUS. ARSE. Can't wait to use it.

AGS Games in Production / Re: ROTN game

Gungeon? I would have said Ganja myself.

Ah well. Another RON game! Happy days are here again!

Ahoy folks. Two items of interest.

1) A proper demo will be coming up soonish. There's one that has been kicking around the RON site, but that's been there for a while and is seriously lacking polish and feels a bit empty. This one will be much better.

2) An accompanying RON short story is in the works, to be released chapter by chapter at regular intervals. It is titled 'Back to Reality', and acts as a prequal to the game - setting up several of the major plot points and stories I want to develop further in RoFM.

(The second chapter may particularly appeal to long term Myst fans. That's all I shall say.)

EDIT - New ingame Screenshots are UP. Enjoy, and feel free to comment.

Ahem.

WOOOOOOOOOO!!!

True. The only way I discovered RON was through a link from 'Yahtzee Takes on the World', his old webcomic featuring Davy Jones from RON. Much more could be done to feature it more prominently on AGS, maybe suggesting it for New Makers.

I see RON as a newbie training ground. And that's not a bad thing. You've got all the backgrounds, sprites and backstory you need to make a pretty decent game without straining for original inspiration. Had I dived in with one of my many planned projects (like I had done before with KNP) I would most likely had dived a slow painful death. As it is, my RON project has taught me pretty much everything about AGS I need.

However, when you've done an excellent RON game and got the confidence and skills you need, the temptation is to carry on with an original project. When that happens, you leave RON behind, and more often than not, you don't have time anymore to drop into the community. Pretty much all RON contributors are now members of the AGS forums, and they rarely pop into RON as regularly as they did.

But the place will always be around. It has no intention of just collapsing and dying overnight. As long as the site is still around, and at least one dude is around as an admin, they'll always be people willing to add to it.

Adventure Related Talk & Chat / Reality's 5th
Wed 12/10/2005 22:17:30
So yeah. Reality on the Norm is fast approaching its 5th birthday. Quite a funky landmark, in my opinion. I'm hoping there's gonna be some new submissions to the site to commemorate this event.

My question however is this - how does the AGS community view RON? I'm relativly new to both communities (only been around for a year or so), but I can tell that RON hasn't been as active as it once was. I'm wondering why that is. Is it because the standard of fanmade adventures has left RON behind? Or is it some other reason?

I'm hoping this dry season doesn't cause RON to completly disappear. Its a unique concept that's showcased some very talented AGSer's (Grundislav, Dave Gilbert, Yahtzee) beginnings. It would be a shame for it to die due to lack of interest.

Wait a minute... there were foxes?!?

EDIT - Having played III Spy, I see what ye mean. Will ask artist comrade Mr. Flibble to stick foxes in (I cannot do it, as it is saved as a png, something my copy of ArtGem refuses to open, and the shading will suffer under a different thing).

EDIT 2 - Oh, Steve, that reminds me. Do you still have the cha. file of the Sheriff you did for IIISpy? I can't seem to find it in the database, and it would be great if I had that version of him.

combined by Darth - BTW you'd have a better chance of a response by sending the above in a PM

Quite right. More will be uploaded tonight. It was late and I wasn't even sure Image Shack was up to the task of hosting it. Since it is, it should be easy to upload anything else.

Don't worry, there's enough there to show. There's even a couple of demos kicking around on the RON site, as well as some more screenies. The one above is an AGS exclusive though, and the demos are now quite primitive.

And yeah, its gangster/detective genre, so they'll be shades of GTA. Although I'll be sure to keep it only semi-serious. And yes, beta testing would be funky.

System Crash Studios proudly presents The Return of Frank Malone.

Overview
A new chapter in the ongoing online series Reality on the Norm that sees the return of the town's finest wannabe crime boss - Frank Malone. This game takes place two years after the events of 'The Underworld.'

Story
Busted out of Santiego de Concertina, the infamous Mexican State prison he has spent the last two years languishing in, Franky is given the offer of a lifetime - in exchange for a few 'jobs' every few months or so, he is free to rebuild his crime empire, free from the interference of a certain zombie mayor and trigger happy evil twin...

Two weeks later, Frank receives his first assignment - he's got two days to track down a leather case that has vanished alongside it's courier somewhere in the crazy town of Reality on the Norm. Even for a member of the notorious Reality Underworld, it's gonna be one tricky job to pull off. Other people are taking an interest in his activities, and of those of his mysterious employers. Just who exactly are the 'bosses'? And what are they planning for Gower and his town?

The Return of Frank Malone features updated RotN graphics, crazy characters both old and new, and a complex and involving story set against the gritty underworld of dealers, racketeers, murderers and Airfix Kit druggies...

If you like, I could give this a very thorough play and correct the occasional grammatical error. If ye like.

Just playing it now. Not too bad. I like the story. The graphics, while not bad themselves, don't have any order to them. For example, the door to the back alley in Scid's doesn't lead into the Cloudy Days building.

A little more tweaking, though, and this could be a very good game. RON could certainly use a few new ones.
#335
Alternativly, just crack it.

BEFORE YOU START SHARPENING YOUR STOUT STICKS: This is not morally unethical. ArtGem was discontinued years ago, and there is no way of paying for it even if you wanted to. This means there is no way to get the full version without resorting to a keygen. So there is NO OTHER WAY to save it as the file you want.

These are readily avaliable, and with a few minutes work you'll find one. I can post no links though... the mod team will start stealing the bricks from my house one by one again.

Reality on the Norm: Apocalypse Meow.

'Sweet. Jammy. Fuck.'

Whoa!

Was just crusing around the forums with my pal Mr. Flibble when I stumbled upon this topic. It gladdens me to see that this is still in the pipeline Creed.

Unfortunatly, I am not really fit to comment on the technical spectrum of the graphics, as I am incapable of all but the most basic of shading and shape. All I'll say is that they rock. Pure and simple.

Nice one.  :)

I can see where you're getting at... But if its the kind of atmosphere the game is trying to create, such as in 7 Days, then it can be done very well.

If its just there for the hell of it, then its pointless and bad storytelling.

Another good example is MI2. It worked really well, generally because it was the kind of deneumont that was kinda expected. Same as 7 Days.

Ah well. Hopefully one of these new adventure gaming companies run by LucasArts veterans such as Dave Grossman will snap up S&M2 and continue production!

Its a possibility...

Probably Kings Quest 1. I DID play a demo for Monkey Island 5 though.
