Might want to try that again Chief, the new link is broken.

Esnips, lad. That or Rapidshare. That should do nicely for you.

The ProgZ graphics are certainly not the default ones, no sir. Think they were just picked for an example. The Krysis ones are very much the 'industry standard', so to speak.

My suggestion is to modify one of the existing character sprites - its easier than creating something from scratch, and will be consistant with the existing style of the other characters.

Right now, Terrence's main distinctions are green shirts and trousers (a jumpsuit I'm assuming), black shoes and blonde spiky hair. Shouldn't be too hard to modify the current Davy sprite for that, I'll see what I can do. Were there any other parts of his appearence/characteristics you'd thought of?

And where would ROAE go on the timeline?

Why, right at Mika's birthday, of course  ::)

*snerk*. Well, we've got an unfilled void of 2004-2009 to choose from if a specific place on the timeline is desired.

Nope, this is the right place for it. Sounds an interesting premise! Looking forward to seeing what you come up with. If you need help with the engine or advice on resources/characters/stories, then feel free to ask. We're more than happy to help.

No worries, have a muffin. :D

Speaking in terms of site design, what would be the best way to implement these catagories? We could use the subheadings system that exists now in regard to date released, timeline, recently added etc, but adding these subcatagories on top of the ones there would result in something of a disorganised heading orgy. Would it help if in the meantime, this thread was possibly stickied?

I don't think standalone games have to specifically fit ANYWHERE on the timeline.

Bump for new version. Herein can be found:

- A new interface, utilising the new template.
- Test room descriptions added to several rooms (check the readme file for where).
- Some new backgrounds and updates to old ones.
- A new player sprite. A million points and a bucket of herring to the first one to get who it is.

Ignore any scaling/walkbehind issues for now. Feedback on the room descriptions (length, tone, detail etc) and the new interface will be probably the most helpful at this point.

Some people need to put together a RotN table.

...

Jus' chucking it out there.  ;D

Nicely done indeed, Zaidyer and ProgZmax. At some point I'll take it for a test drive on Virtual Reality. The results should make it into the next build.

My primary concern is that while the new gui looks great for the BB backgrounds, there might be a bit of a clash for the lower res ones that make up the majority of RON locations. I also lament the loss of the other buttons, as I do tend to have fun writing extra irrelevancies for items and hotspots.

However, I do applaud your wanting to make a new RON template for AGS 3.0 and above, and this represents a good start. I see no reason why you can't do two that cater for both the streamlined and the traditional interfaces, and give people the choice. If you were to do that, along with tweak it sligtly so it doesn't look out of place with the other graphics options, then this has the potential to be a fantastically helpful resource.

Whatever happened to WinAce? If I recall it has even better compression than WinRar.

While we're on the subject of non-fiction articles, I would recommend providing links to the two writeups on the AdventureGamers site:

RONtroversial gaming - June 2008

Deconstructing Reality - June 2004

Bloody hell, now THAT's exposure! Nice find Dave.

Unfortunatly the quicklink refers to the old Underdogs site, so we might have lost a few people using it to find us. Still a spiffy writeup though. LJ'd it for great justice.

Correct. The Repossessor was recompiled last year by Renegade Implementor to work with modern computers and to take advantage of the updated graphics that were kicking around, hence why it looks graphically superior to the other games at the time. A few others have undergone the same treatment, such as Paranormal Investigator and Monty on the Norm.

Also, the writeup on the catagories is accurate, nice one. All in all, an excellent review. There's a section on the RON website for articles, I would strongly recommend this as an addition, or as a link to your blog at the very least.

I was under the impression this thread was created precisely so people COULD have a say in this.
