Umm....you could've just left it to get pushed back behind everything else instead of bumping it to the top anyway...

Ah, crap. Well, okay, I bow down to your XP-ness, you guys rock.

I played a demo of KQ8, and truthfully didn't like it too much. I don't know why, probably because the point and click interface make it great...

And to make myself clear here, finally, I meant that KQ6 won't run on the XP resolution, it needs 256 colors and the lowest XP will go is 16 bit. It doesn't even run. I have to use my old beater with 98 to even play it. When I typed "vga" I was really tired.

And I think I got mine for around 60 or 70 on amazon a few years back.

General Discussion / Re:Do you get any ?

Well, I don't know about everyone else, but I'm getting some homework done.

Well, I didn't mean vga, that was sort of a mistype, but XP won't go to 256 colors.

Well, I put down my flag, but I mean, I'm only 15, so dude, I'm not going to be meeting up. I thought I'd do it anyway, though.

AGS Games in Production / Re:Apprentice 2!

Well, I hope you've got use for a male american accent. Heh. Although, I'm pretty young, only 15, so if you have some younger character (or I sound old enough...) I'm your man. Actor all the way.

And I wouldn't DREAM of insulting you brits with my british accent...it's okay, if you don't scrutinize it too closely...

I've got it. It's so great, but I can't run them on my new computer, only my old one with Win98. XP doesn't do DOS, so I have to download VGA versions to even play some of them. I wish there was a KQ6vga...argh. That's one of the best ones, in my humble opinion. "Alexander opens his magic map..."

PS: The appleII games and the Laura Bow games 0wn as well.

If that's really what you want to do...then you're in for a lot of if/thens. Seriously, your code is going to be massive.

Ah, see I didn't know you could do that sort of thing with AGS. I've worked with that sort of thing in PERL, but, well, that's really cool.

Great job, man.

of course, can't the scaling only go up to 200%? That might be enough, but...well, I don't know.

Yeah, it was a little time consuming. It was sort of like, well, I might as well see what works and what doesn't, so that I know better next time...

Oh well. It was sort of a rough sketch tracing anyway.

Hints & Tips / Re:Apprentice?

The only part I had trouble with was with, in my opinion, what was the coolest puzzle in the game: Getting into the closet. That was great.

Oh, and as I have said, congratulations with that secret puzzle!

I think if you do the int declaration inside the function, all that happens is that it becomes a local variable and can only be used within that function. I mean, that's the way it is for other languages...but I could be wrong. Haven't really documented that happening to me...

Oh, and Hotshot, if you do that, then there's a possibility that they might get the four buttons right, but out of order, and that's not what we want. We're looking for the actual order here, cause it's a password.

Er, you've got me. Meh. I'll get right on that.

AFTER I come home from school today. *shudders*

Hey, thanks, I sort of noticed that too...looks a little strange. I'll see what I can do to change that.

Critics' Lounge / My first serious background

Alright, so this is it, it's for a game I'm in the process of actually creating (wow...didn't think that'd happen) which I'm not going to say much about right now, but I just wanted to see what you thought of it. It's all done in Adobe Photoshop Elements LE, and has 38 layers. It was sort of my test, you see, to see if I could actually do it, and it turned out much better that I expected. I used a lot of gradients/transparencies, and used the noise filter for the road/sidewalk. Let me know what you think of it.

Notes: There will be a "Help Wanted" sign on the door, as an object, a bum sitting against the alley wall of the tatoo parlor (spelled wrong on purpose), the missing "O" lying against the curb, and I think the sign on the post will be an object too, but I put it on anyway, just because I wasn't thinking.  Also, the red building will be brick.
Oh, and it looks grainy because it's a gif, and I can't post the good quality BMP here. If you want to see that version, click here.

It looks delightful to ME, but still...I don't see any flaws, and you did some nice shorthand as well.

Completed Game Announcements / Re:Apprentice!

I thought it was superb. The cheese puzzle was great! Hard, but not so hard that I couldn't figure it out. It was the whole stomach comment that gave me the connection...as it was SUPPOSED to do. Heh. And the secret puzzle was delightfully secret, so hard that no one would even be able to figure it out, unless their name was necro, or had help. Or were just amazing at clicking everything on everything else.

Well, you could do something really ugly, and just have four variables, each one being defined by the first click, second click, third click and fourth click, and then check to see if all the variables are correct in an if/else statement. Not quite sure how you'd do the first click and second click thing in a script, but I believe it's do-able....
