Ah merry memories  :D This whole time I thought Jess's foreboding spectre scream was synthetic :P

I'm fine with those dates too.

I have never really celebrated the 4th in any special way and probably never will, but it would be interesting to see how a group of disproportionately international people get into the festivities :D

Too late. There is a Mattens planned for later summer in Burnham :P

General Discussion / Re: Happy New Year!

Happy New Year motherfuckers!  :D

It has just gone 2am and I am already wishing it could be 2008 forever. Last New Years was much more awesome. I spent it with my two best friends in the UK with Grolsh and Indian takeaways and watched an ex-Beatle and some other notables on the televised countdown and did the whole Auld Lang Syne thing.

This year I worked 10 hours between two different jobs and watched Dick Clark doing some weird impression when I found out he actually had a stroke in the last couple years I did not hear about, all while rocking out balls to the wall with Miller High Life. Oh well I always see the worst in others it seems :P

No no no. We need to have Scottens. Or Scittens. Skittens? One of those.

It's actually spelled 'Sporrans', and it just finished second season, waiting to be picked up for a third  :D

I have vague plans to come to the UK for nearly a month in the June-ish area, figuring Brittens would be near that time.

Also, I heard rumours that Dutchland was a possible arena, though nothing has been openly discussed on the forums yet.

I wasn't aware of this thanks for bringing it to my attention.   I don't think anyone in the US would like this at all nor do I think it would be all that popular in Mexico and Canada either.  Just look at how resistant people are to using dollar coins.  I also hold the Constitution and national sovereignty in high esteem and believe it's important to do so.

I don't see any problems with a unified currency really, I think the nationalists would only really be upset at the fact that it is not something unique to the country, rather than something difficult to integrate in the economies of three different countries. Would not prices reflect the local resources and standard of living anyways?

The Euro has a specific exchange value outside of the countries that use it, but from experience I can say as with everything else the value is not the same from region or country to another, a nice dinner out in France will probably cost more than a nice dinner out in Greece, mostly to due with cuisine differences as well as the living costs, etc. Same as how $20 will not go as far in a Manhattan bar as it will in a bar in Indianapolis.

Additionally, the Ameros could be rather spiffy looking  :P

While I'm all for state and local sovereignty, the idea of national sovereignty is something that really chaps my ass. I don't believe it means a hell of a lot in a country of 300 million  (and 52/48 splits are fairly common results) as it does in say Norway with a population of 4 1/2 million.

I live in Michigan, which has a population of around 10 million, but state proposals and elections and what have you still feel better and more relevant than national ones. It is curious that my vote in national elections is cosmically tied to those in California, a state I have never been to nor do I personally know anyone that lives there. The passage of a local or state law in California means exactly the same to me as one passed in Ontario, Canada. Still, I have to live with choices made by them and in every other state simply by a weak association. I would say that national sovereignty ranks rather low in my esteem.

I'm quite glad that there hasn't really been any response to this thread, which seems to imply that nobody does care about Windows 98 any more.

Well either that or that this thread is boring as hell  :(

P.S. I'm good with no support of 98. After the official updates, this would no doubt be the final nail in it's coffin :o

Will the AGS meetings never end?

I don't think so, they keep coming fast.

Magintz and Tier came to visit me in Saginaw/Chicago while on a month of USA holiday. I just dropped them off at Detroit Airport, but only after a week of goodies!

Drinking cafe and whatnots at the coffee shop where I spent 70% of my waking hours in my adolesence.

Gary sleeps on the train to Chicago, poor guy woke up at 5:30am  :-\

Halloween day at McFetridge Sports Center, where they had "Scary Skate" going

Wish you were here, at the Chicago River. Love, Magintz, Tier and Disco

I introduce my guests to 40s!

My non-geek friend Justina joined us for human piles on the final night of the visit.

2. Only having two parties has already dissolved democracy, not having any room for stark disagreement between those two would only dissolve it further.

Indeed, it is sad that in 30+ states (mostly those with the most electoral votes) there will be 6 names on the ballot for president, yet a good many people have only heard of 2 or 3 of them. When you can pick between more brands of peanut butter at the shop than you can with the president, things can get 'nutty' XD

You seem to be taking a worst-case-voter-scenario and making it out to be the most important issue with voters Darth. Believe it or not, not everyone votes for people in their same demographic, or does the opposite to not feel racist. It is not compulsory to disclose your vote to anyone.

I could not help but notice that you gave each scenario post-election in almost entirely racial terms, as if the majority of voters are not enlightened enough to operate outside these stereotypes.

The media here does tend to operate in extremes, but that is just television. Many political Bloggers are the same, paranoid people who think they are in a majority just because radical views are most of what is on television :P

Hmm, suppose I'll be voting for him anyways. I voted Gore in 2000 but in 2004 it was more of a vote against Bush than a vote for Kerry, but...

I for one am really looking forward to post-Americanism, hoping the US bankrupts itself eventually with all the inane spending and unwarranted security measures, and something new and different comes out of it. It had it's time in the spotlight just like all of histories major powers that eventually could not sustain themselves.

I'm so tired of it.

Well I am offended. My couple is inexistent and depending on what is involved in "violating", I might perhaps be at least semi-willing. What gives?  >:(

Also want to speak up for Magintz before the virtual seats are taken,  as he is off adventuring in the USA at the moment, but he has expressed interest as well.

There was a night when some guys where slightly ethilic, but nothing else...

I'm always a little ethilic :-X

Yeah same  :o almost enough to want to jump out a window "becasue I thought I could survive it" at one point, but to be fair I did that whole gondola lift trespass thing on zero alcohol :P

Well you have to consider that both North American meetings so far haven't cracked the 20 mark. At 16 people in Canada, it was a bit less than the two previous European meetings, so perhaps it would be wise to think in those terms.

A house would be ideal given that we have been spoiled over the last couple years, and 22 seems doable for a North American meeting.

Damn, just shaved a couple days ago :P which means I will have light stubble in a week or so, then it will stop.

I don't suppose you would accept a substitute tuna moustache?

I hath made it home now too :P after leaving the group at CDG yesterday morning I almost could not board my flight to London on time because a half hour before boarding, an unattended bag was discovered and the surrounding 20 gates evacuated while the bomb squad came to inspect. Surprisingly, it was taken care of within 15 or so minutes.

Now after a flight, bus, train, 14 hours overnight at Gatwick and two more flights I am finally in my own bed (first time in 39 days) :D wish I was still there though. A proper round up and photos will follow after I sleep this vodka-esque haze off!

Whoo whoo! I'm at Luton right now and going to be boarding my flight to Paris in about 1/2 hour. See you homies there.

Nacho and Lorena- we would probably like to welcome you graciously into Perfect Hostel if you would be arriving at midnight or so, shenanigans are always given priority over (early) sleep :P.

Darren! What is your flight? I know you will be arriving at around 10:00, but not from where and with whom. I ask as if I will somehow find out before I see you anyways :P hopefully we will just happen to arrive in the same spot :/
