Due to kilometer restrictions on the van, may I propose that we see Toronto either the first day or the last day after we have spent our final night? The possibililty that some people may have to take public transportation has already been discussed in this thread, and being that everyone has or will pay $24.50 CAN for their share of the cabin that night, I think it is only fair that Scummbuddy get a ride to Stratford for the bus to Toronto on that day, I have already checked and it is $32 CAN for a single for both routes on the 26th.

As stated before, we have restrictions on how far we can go without surcharges, and ~15 people (not sure what it is at the moment) have already put money toward that final night way in advance, and that amount of people displaced in Toronto for a night might be hard to put up, with some possibility of paying for another night, something at least I know I can't do.

As I PMed Scummbuddy, the pick-up will be no problem but the early airport run is problematic for one person.  The reason being such a large van will be a bit of a gas guzzler, which makes it hard to financially justify the 500km round trip from Bayfield to the airport and back (there's also a surcharge if we do more than 1400 km in the week....).  We could solve this by either planning a Toronto day-trip for the Thursday (in which case we'd all be going anyway), or else finding a smaller vehicle for his return trip (i.e. folks coming with their own private cars).

Who's in for a Thoronto Thursday?

Glad Scummbuddy is going and all, but how much is this extra running around going to be? Seems like every few posts plans have changed and sidetrips have been planned/suggested and I'm not quite certain what is happening anymore. Can we get an all-inclusive update from our host?

Also, would leaving a day early mean we are still paying for that night? what about Toronto accomodations for that many people?  ???

I love the ability to play six degrees of Kevin Bacon with AGSers:

MrColossal was in Ben Jordan 1 Deluxe with Dave Gilbert
Dave Gilbert was in The Blackwell Legacy with Grundislav
Grundislav will be in Blackwell Unbound with Dani Marco
Dani Marco was in I Think I Love My Wife with Wendell Pierce
Wendell Pierce was in Sleepers with Kevin Bacon

I love you Snarky ^_^

It has been a lifetime goal of mine to get within those six degrees, and now at the age of 25 and without even realising it I am within four degrees :D Real thanks are to Grundislav for casting me in BJ Deluxe. I'm glad I learned to stop questioning your judgment  and just go with it now :P

Unboundwise, August is looking like an exciting month.  Based on the premise, I can hardly wait to buy the soundtrack even.

Layabout would be a good man to ask. He's moved from Australia to England, and lived mostly on bar work and accomodation that comes with that :p

Indeed I think Layabout is the person to ask in this situation, just keep in mind that he moved from a commonwealth and that his father (or mother?) emigrated to Australia from England if I recall correctly, so he had two positives working for him :D

I am calling dibs on the hammock, with Darren as my witness.

You would-be hammockers should have looked at the website and spoken up sooner, huh? :D sucks to be you.

I've looked into this intermittently over past few years, and discovered it is really quite difficult as an American to move anywhere really.

For instance, I wanted to move to the UK or someplace in Europe for adventure and for being close to dear friends (thanks to AGS and a couple other internet communities, the number of what I consider to be close friends outside of the US nearly triple those within), but unless you are a grandson/daughter of a native, have an employment sponsor, or are marrying somebody from that country, it is exceedingly difficult for a person of American citizenship to move anywhere abroad.

Additionally, from what I have seen of UK visa requirements, any employer you might tantalise has to prove that they could not find a British person to fill that position, then a worker from any EU countries if they are to hire anyone from anywhere else. Please note that this information is from what I have gleaned over a few years of research, most not being extremely recent, and may have changed.

If visiting the UK for example, as a non-student or similar, your passport stamp specifically states that you are barred from employment, cannot receive public funds, and cannot stay for longer than six months at a time. As an American, you are also unable to enter the working holiday scheme, which is open to Australians, Canadians. persons from various African and Asian countries, but not the US :/

If I knock up my girlfriend can we stay if our kid is born there?

Yes, I think, so long as she is British. If you are taking your American girlfriend there, then I am inclined to say it would likely not result in citizenship, though I haven't researched that avenue.

June 26th was Pink Martini Day, a holiday invented by my sister and I in honour of one of our favourite bands, Pink Martini. We decided to celebrate it on June 26th since it was also a day we would see them perform in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

My sister Kayla (left) and our friend Melanie (right) getting ready to leave for the day.

Being the typical man, I have been ready for hours, but the apartment full of typical females did not see it that way. Apparently my green polo wasn't nice enough in the company of Melanie's tie-dyed skirt and my sister's dress bought on clearance, so my sister's roommate tries to find something "better" for me. No dice.

Drinking a blended juice at Seva, a vegetarian restaurant. I chose to combine celery and cantaloupe. It was righteous.

Oowmph!

I believe that is everything.  Please bring any errors or omissions to my attention.

Who is Kevbot? *EDIT* oops, nevermind :P

As for the Yorkdale/Pearson divide, I will wait to see if Renegade is coming or when Ivy and Kevbot plans to come around, otherwise I would like to be there for the early arrivals at the airport. How easy/hard is it to get to Pearson on the subway?

*semi-necessary double post*

I am changing my arrival information a bit, and need a local's perspective on the Toronto transit situation. I will be arriving at 11pm on the 19th and staying the night at a hostel right across from the University. Checking out at 11am the 20th, I am wondering if I should take the bus or subway to Pearson, or the subway to Yorkdale to wait for pickup.

The times for the Yorkdale pickup are different depending on where you look in this thread, and I'm wondering if it is even necessary depending on from where Ivy intends to be extracted or if Renegade can come (hope you can dude!). My Google countdown tells me I leave in 20 days, so I would like a conclusive roundup of times and travel info whenever possible.

Quintaros arrives at 14:16
Britishes arrive at 14:50
What time was your flight arriving Radiant?

How about those who are driving? Are we all meeting at the airport and making an exodus to Bayfield? any approximate times for getting to Toronto?

Would everyone be cool with an evening pick-up?  This would mostly affect the Yorkdale pick-up (pushing it to approximately 6pm-ish) and possibly the airport one.  If I don't hear anything in two days I'm going to make the reservation.

Well in that case we ought to get to Pearson on our own accord, then when everyone arrives, stash our stuff in a locker and go into town for a bit, and wait for the price to drop. Or...we could always kill time at Pearsonian Starbucks or Wolfgang Puck's :D

Another note: the rental would only be $6.99 if it were only 7 days, which we might be able to swing if I just head down in the evening on Friday July 21 and have everyone dropped off at the airport by Friday July 28 in the afternoon (I think the drop off was planned then anyway, but the pick-up is pushed later).

Discuss.

Wait... it is the 20th to the 27th, right? Otherwise, we could all just hang out in Toronto on the first day until everyone arrives and do some sight-seeing, have dinner out and such, then rent the bus sometime after midnight if they are open then and get to the cabin in the wee hours. But that may not work as I assume we have to be around at a decent time on the 20th for the keys from the owners.

One more word to my fellow Mitteners: I aim to sponsor viewings of both Serenity and Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan. BE WARNED!! :D

I must say as a fan that I do not find the subject the least bit amusing. Perhaps it is my fault I was tricked into thinking that a favourite singer had passed since I don't make a habit of double-checking on a board where the notably deceased are usually honoured with a thread. The fact that you are not a fan should not give you license to title threads misleadingly like that. This isn't my board, so I guess just enjoy this morbid, insensitive shock thing you have going on.

I have a telescope but havent used it in ages. Some part inside got broken.

Let me guess, when you turn it on way, everything gets kind of blurry, but when you turn it the other direction, everything....becomes....clear? :)

I can get a ventrillo room sorted out for those people who want to chat before they arrive to hopefully get to know some people before they get there

98.6% of the people that go to these meets already know each other, in some cases for multiple years  :D your best bet is to just visit the irc chat.

And that's what keeps CJ working on this big blue cup- a soft spot for adventures, a community that cares, and lots of caffeine.

Caffeine? I doubt it :P

What really keeps CJ going with AGS is that for a week, twice or thrice yearly, he goes on drinking binges.

No community, no binges  :'(

Erm, I just bought tickets to see Pink Martini next month, that maybe counts O_o. Their last album featured 14 songs in 6 languages

"Part French cabaret and part Hollywood musical, this stylish 12-piece orchestra plays a wildly eclectic musical mix that falls somewhere between a 1930s Cuban dance orchestra, a classical chamber music ensemble, a Brazilian marching band, and Japanese film noir. Get ready to stir things up with this ultra-chic ensemble."

No?

Aside from that, I visited England, Wales, Scotland, France and Spain last summer and witnessed some culturey things.

Joss Whedon- though it is rather hard to come up with the perfect activity to do with him, I'm thinking a bank job would be something to consider, especially if we could involve Amy Acker and Andy Hallett. Afterwards we would all go and spend our stolen cash at a California Pizza Kitchen and listen while Joss tells us tales from the 'Verse.
