General Discussion / Re:Larry 8 without Al!!!

All Lowe also said there'd never be a Larry 4... so they scripted the plot, trashed it and rehashed Larry 1 then they went straight to Larry 5

That info comes from the back of a Larry Anthology box

eric: Wow, did you work with Busta? Did you meet him personally? It'd be cool if you did.

Anyway, I think you misinterpreted my post. I said that people like Busta are paid big bucks to have their characters... as Busta does have a character (otherwise I'm gambling that we'd know his real name)

I called the teenage airheads who like Ja Rule and Busta just because 'it's cool' lemmings. Not Busta, Ja Rule, Jennifer Lopez or any of those who are famous. My main gripe was with the advertising industry, not the artists themselves.

Your point about painters is interesting though, I believe Mozart was employed by some lordy type figure and he composed a lot of music for that lord, got a pretty high standing and a nice house (This is from memory and may not be accurate, I'm not really interested enough to look it up... but if anyone knows otherwise, feel free to teach)

Sluggo: Sorry to start like this... but PLEASE spell my name right... call it a pet peeve  :P

Your first point about a piano concerto not being a song confused me... I suppose I can see what you mean, I guess... it's certainly music though... and I like it very much. Would you like to expand on that please... I'd like to know what you mean exactly.

A lot of the chamber music I like. It's sort of soothing backgroundy type music. It makes a good backdrop for writing stories. I don't like all classical mind you, I did say that I found some quite bad earlier (or I at least implied I thought that way.) Bach's harpsichord pieces I've had bad experience with. I have three cd's of simple harpsichord music. By the end of the first I'm so incredibly bored I don't think I've ever bothered with nos. 2 or 3.

Complexity is a personal taste of mine, but I guess there is just too much of a good thing. Bach's harpsichord works for example. Maybe my point about liking complex pieces was not entirely truthful to my feelings. I'm glad you helped me realise this. I like pieces that sound nice to me.  a lot of music these days doesn't sound good to me.

Your points about emotion is why I like a lot of post romantic music. I still appreciate the great masters of Baroque and Classical, but I mean, again, the overall sterile feeling I get from Bach's harpsichord is probably what turned me off it.

Sonatas, any classical music written to a form is hard to write, I don't have the capacity to do it, and I greatly respect anyone who can. With new age classical, any bum, even me, can write a chord progression and the basics of what to do. But mind you, my music stinks.

Phillip Glass is a great musician. Of his work, I LOVE Akhenaten, Running horses (Poetry written with a splash of Blood), and his violin concerto.

About Stravinsky: He's cool I guess... but... I had to hear his Rites of Spring I dunno, five times before I liked it. Stravinsky's very messy... I'm no fan, but to write a piece like Rite of Spring does require skill, and I respect him.

Heya everyone, I figured that I might as well just put any art that I'm truly proud of in here, along with the bunny comic (page six is on the way... trust me...) there's no reason for me to start new threads every time I draw a doodle that I like.

I'll still keep what page I'm up to in the topic though...

anyway, this is truly the first piece of work where, when I looked at it, I shook my head and got misty eyed, in disbelief that THAT WAS MY WORK! That was my pen which had doodled that in my maths book... this work was mine.

Suffice to say I love it.

* Dmitri hangs head in shame

I hate my old posts... I honestly do...

I don't know what defines a newb. A person who takes the community too seriously I guess.

I mean think about it, the people who take this place to heart. Those who truly care about others opinions, those who want to be cool, to be liked. Don't they want to start threads? Silly threads to seem cool? Don't they throw in one or two lines, or say "That's cool" in all the art threads?

I don't know if I take this place seriously. If I didn't care AT ALL I wouldn't come here once or twice a day to see how everyone's been doing. I care about what people think of me. But I'm not necessarily here for lifelong friends or to be liked anymore. On the same note I don't want everyone to hate me.

It's a theory...

eric: heh, how about that

reading the responses, I realised I do like some of modern music. If only for some songs' hilarious content (Ala "Star Trekkin'"-Dr. Demento) But I'll concede to admit, a lot of pop/rock is good and enjoyable. Just as a lot of classical is bad/boring.

I dunno, a thought struck me, it's more about the skill of the musician/composer than it is about the genre in which they are creating.

comparing Mods' musicianship to Beethoven's is like comparing an apple to an orange. How do you say one is better. I like some of Mods' as well as some of Beethoven's. What is the difference? I mean, it's all about whether or not you enjoy the music in the end, and I'll concede that I haven't even bothered to listen to a lot of contemporary pieces.

I'll keep an eye out for the songs you mentioned DG, I hope to enjoy them.

I do oppose the intense marketing of the "Top sellers" like Ja Rule, Busta Rhymes and Jennifer Lopez (I REFUSE to call her 'J.Lo') they're paid to have character, look pretty, and sing like idiots. They sell themselves to the crowd, and the crowd loves it. It just makes me angry to thing that humans can be such lemmings to advertising!

grr... hate hate hate hate hate  >:(

Now I respect people who wish to belive in GOD, I dont, I belive following GOD has caused more hate, problems and fear and will keep doing so. Beliving in god should bring hope, make a person happy, and if you belive in the bible respect for each and every of gods creatures. I also belive it shouldnt cost you any more to belive in god. But it doesnt do that, and some people have to spend alot of money to try and get close to god, very sad indeed......

I understand what you're saying, and I agree with your second point, believing SHOULD bring hope, it SHOULD spread goodwill.

Jesus' basic message was "Love thy neighbour"

it was not "Kill the moslems, beat the women, poison the puppies, rape the children" (although Yakspit may want to disput that last point  :P)

"Suffer the children who come unto me, such is the kingdom of heaven" -- Jesus ::)

But I know that the church HAS brought greed, ambition, hatred and lust.

Now I say, it was not God who did that, it was not God who said kill, it was man. Guns don't kill people, people kill people. Never has that meant more to me than when I argue that religion is not a bad thing.

Paedophilia is disgusting. Any fetish is. The only fetishes that I believe are allowable are Homosexuality and dominance. Only because of consent. I admit to being repulsed by homosexuality. It just makes me shiver. But don't get me wrong, I can tolerate, I can accept. I pray for the day there are no social stigma, I pray for the day when a man is a man, even if he's a woman. Tolerance was the first step to reaching the point where someday the terms "Black" and "White" will only be colours, nothing more.

I pity OneManArmy, to be burdened with such a mental disease as paedophilia. I heard in a news report that many psychiatrists believe paedophilia is not curable, only containable. And it's sad to think that OneManArmy might not be able to contain his urges.

It is sad for the child, obviously, as he/she will/might undergo all sorts of psychological trauma during and after the act has been committed. I have no idea of this trauma, I've never met anyone who has been raped, let alone as a child. Well, there was one girl who claimed to it, but quite frankly she seeked much attention, especially where males were concerned. I'm not saying she deserved it, but the way I saw her toy with a lot of guy's emotions was quite frankly awful.

Society believes that while a 15 year old may be mature, a 15 year old cannot and should not have to make a decision about sex. I don't have to preach the repurcussions of sex. But a 15 year old girl shouldn't have to deal with the social stigma of her friends... beliddling her and calling her a slut. A 15 year old girl shouldn't have to choose whether an abortion is the right thing to do. A 15 year old girl shouldn't contract AIDS or be HIV positive before she's even had the chance to start living. A 15 year old girl shouild not have sex.

And like Junc, I am very glad we do NOT have flamers, lamers and (I'll out and say it) fuckwits on this board.

Trap: I rebuke that statement by farting in your general direction

I like classical music more as a personal taste, but here are some objective reasons as to why I think classical is better

-More instruments and musicians, I like music that's HUGE! one of the reasons I love that particular concerto... the piano sounds HUGE! Also the reason my runner up song is Requiem by Mozart

-Complexity, classical music has a lot of musicians, and a lot of flexibility. There's only so much you can do with 5 voices and synthesised music ala boy band, but you get a good orchestra (which has more than 5 people) and you can do anything (within the limits of the instruments and voices)

Even rock groups that can actually play instruments, the music just isn't complex enough.

-emotion, now I'll grant, I've heard good modern music (not including rap)that provokes good emotion. But when you hear "Night on Bare mountain" and "Oh Fortuna" you just think "Evil". When you hear "Requiem" or the choral in Beethoven's ninth symphony you think "powerful". When you hear the moonlight sonata you think, "Sad"

I'll agree that a lot of classical music doesn't express emotion, it's just more of a preference that I feel the emotions this way instead of hearing some voice telling about how much his/her life sucks.

-It doesn't say anything, now I'm addressing a lot of rap here. We all hear the rap music, "Some white cop beating up my homies" and such (yes that is a very horrible and general statement which can easily be disproven) but my point is that a lot of rap and music says something. Something political. I just think bleh. Music is for enjoyment, if I want to hear about how society and the world is going to the shithole then I'll listen to a green activist.

I could tell David Macknamera's website was a joke once I got down to the imprisonment terms for pornography.

There's nothing really wrong with porn between consenting adults and such. It's getting into the pain and blood and animals and children and dead people where porn gets wrong in my opinion.

I agree that porn and the overall freedom with porn, easy access and such, which has affected society... but I mean, what hasn't affected society! Hell, in the last couple hundred years the human race found this wonderful thing called tolerance, now black people and women get a fair go.

bleh, I'm rambling now. I have no gripes with this website because I know it's a joke. Anyone who seriously was brought up like this and believes this is right is simply brainwashed. Fed by his own propoganda.

Personally I don't like these jokes, imitating the extreme of authoritarianism.

bah, my favourite song is and always WILL be Tchaikovsky's piano concerto no. 1 in b flat minor Opus 23

Anything that was made past Dvorak and Rachmaninov stinks IMO...

Panda, mate, you can do it.

There is absolutely no physical impedence for you not to be able to.

I think that few people realise just how free a human being is... in most countries.

Your time is your time, and the time you dedicate to creating, whether it be games, art, learning, whatever, that time will be rewarded.

Panda, make your game, if they can do it, you can too.

Gemen, it was a post somewhere that I read part of what you went through, I'm not going to be tactful or subtle, I'm going to say it was fucked up.

The very fact that you LIVED through that and didn't pick up a knife tells me your a bloody strong person. I mean, you're the kind of guy that they make movies about.

You got dealt a bad hand man, everyone else got kings and full houses, you got a pair of two's.

none of us have got shit compared to what you've gone through, you tried to stand up and they told you to sit down, I respect you for it, hell I'll go as far as wanderlady, I love you for it. You're the kind of guy who fell through the system, the kind that humanity forgot. You deserve better than what you've been given.

I can't give you what you want. I don't know what you want. If you want a friend, we're here, if you want to voice your grievances, we're here. But there's only so much comfort that text on a screen can give you.

I don't have much to say, and I've never been good at saying anything. But man, when I hear about you it makes me wanna fly over and smuggle you into another country. Where you can start again. I'd give you all my money but all I have is 19c... Australian too...

then the bloody tax department has probably taken care of half of that while I wasn't looking ._.

I don't know why I'm posting this... I want to help, but I've got no idea how...  :-\

Darth Mandarb:

For the loophole as to how he 'gets back' to the future. We could say that time travels in a circular fashion. That is, the end of time and the beginning of time are the same. Therefore, since the present is the end of time, then the beginning of time is the present.

:P

I dunno, that was confusing. Anyway, we say that time goes for infinity. Correct? But then we also recognise that it had to start somewhere.

Now that in itself is an oxymoron, because if it went for infinity then time wouldn't have to start, nor end. It's an infinite line. Anyway, since we are 3 dimensional creatures, we have perception of the 4th dimension, time. Since in the fourth dimension things like the kline bottle is possible http://www.kleinbottle.com/kline_bottle.htm (the kline bottle is a one sided object, like a sphere but it's not a sphere, therefore it's not possible in this dimension.) and because time is in the 4th dimension then we can say that time is looped.

the whole idea of a kline bottle or a moebius loop is that you can walk upon one in one direction for infinity and never hit yourself, or a wall, but you cover every part of the object in one loop. Which is why the sphere isn't 3 dimensional, because you have to change direction in order to cover every part

That's what time can be, a moebius loop. This means, if you continuously going backwards then eventually you will go over every point in time and wind up where you started. The moebius loop is the symbol of infinity, the 8 on it's side...

This leads onto the problem of that which hasn't yet happened, or the future, wouldn't the beginning of time lead into the end of time, and not the present. Well, if it hasn't happened, then we can say that it doesn't exist. If it doesn't exist, we can speculate that while it MIGHT happen, it hasn't happened and so is therefore not of this dimension. If it isn't of this dimension and it's not part of time it must be in a higher dimension. Since a time machine takes someone through the 5th dimension in order to go backwards in time and since the future is not of the 5th dimension, then it still doesn't exist. if the future doesn't exist in any of the dimensions we're using, then the future is irrelevant. Therefore, the present IS the end of time.

In short, if you keep going backwards, you wind up in the present. Because the present is the beginning of time.

Trap, that's exactly what I was wondering on my way to school, if we have an oldie forum, who has a post which they want only oldies to view?

I mean, getting this forum is all good and well. but I mean, when I was on irc, I was always trying to get at RE, why you ask? Well, I don't really know, it was fun trying, but once we were finally on at the same time I found I didn't ACTUALLY have much I wanted to know/ask/say. It was just fun trying to get to talk to my friend because of the horrible 7 hour time difference.

I can't see why the title of the thread is offensive.
True, passwords suck, putting fences sucks et al... ah, I'm torn, I already said this.
There are many old members and if I tried to IM them all with this proposal, I would spend all day on this - thus, I posted it here.

I didn't say it was offensive, I said pretty much what Barcik said. It could have a better name... I dunno, like "password AGS forum"

Your point about old members being numerous is also irrelevant. Because we'll be arguing about this for weeks on end.

And another point I tried to make is that people NEED NOT KNOW that these forums exist until they are invited... although there were a couple valid points later on as to why this would be a bad idea. The fact that a newbie would know all the newbies and would suddenly be invited to this new password forum and not know anybody.

Did you also notice SSH that pumaman has his own position too... just like CJ's was "Respect my authoritaah" Pumaman's is "Aztec Guy's Friend"

And since CJ said that he wasn't going to hand out silly titles to anyone...

well...

I guess I'll stop trying to be subtle and out and say it... you know that guy that made AGS? That was Pumaman, otherwise known as CJ...

SSH: Are you suggesting we have a right wing forum and a left wing forum?

Heh, it'd be interesting I guess to see which mindset fares better and which is more communal than the others. Maybe the communists, who are always helping eachother, or the capitalists, who's ambitions and achievments are an example for others.

anyway, I'm off topic

Paranoia: The basic idea it seems to me that it is not who is a newbie, there is no such thing as newbie or oldbie. And yes I know you're all thinking "Wait a minute, what about 1337 jerks and annoying people? They are noobs" well... they are not noobs. A 'newbie' as you would put it is someone unfamiliar with the community, he might make a mistake, he might accidentally put his foot in it, but IT WILL BE A MISTAKE!

There are mature people, there are smart people, there are silly people, there are jocular people, there are people who like literature, there are people who like sport. Some of these people are annoying, and so we degrade them, we call them noobs despite the fact that they might know the community quite well.

The idea behind this appears to be that Goldmund and HIS CLIQUE want to have THEIR board. They will only invite people THEY LIKE. This board has no higher status. There is no status in this community. Only people who are recognised, and people who we aren't yet familiar with. Basically what Goldmund is trying to do is somewhat good. He's organising a group of his friends, and a few others he and his friends might be impressed with to come to a board that's outside of AGS.

Goldmund: That being said, I like the idea, although I think the way you titled this thread wasn't very tactful. It won't be what you think it is, just a community of your friends and anyone you might want to join you. I do think you should go for it. But I think it should be generally outside of this community, no-one needed to know of this idea of yours, that you were organising your friends into your own community.

In short, I like the idea, but our attention needn't be drawn to it.

Edit: I do wonder if mods would truly be necessary in this forum? I mean, this will be a forum where there are friends, a closer community aside from the rabble. How much modding was required in the good old days?

And I would be highly amused to see if you later suggested in the closer knit community  "Okay, we need an elitist, elitist forum now... this community's too large again!"

Edit2 for coherence
