good work the shapes in the branches are really flowing. the textured brush on the leaves doesnt fit well with the smoothness of the other part of the picture but i know why you used it.

Iif you add a fill to the canvas before you start painting or set the paper colour as a light shade of the colour you intend to use most in the picture, you may find working easier than painting straight onto white. ps, the wet soft acrylics brushes are great for painting skin, and the simple watercolour brush is fast and good at adding areas of shade.  Keep it up!

whoa cheers guys

Pslocum:Thanks, my fave too was the easiest to draw

Daz:Cheers man

Oz:Thanks

Highwaygal:Cheers, yah my proportions do need some work.Ã,  Regarding moving on to colour, you could learn art in a linear way, or you can learn it from all angles/areas at once, stopping boredom setting in and keeping motivation high.

Evil: Thanks, bought a book on colour because my knowledge was crap a few months ago:P

starting off saying i think the colours look pretty good.Ã,  The eyes are well done and the levels of contrast work well

Ill keep this short because i dont have much time and i hate writing, the way i see it is the jaw is very prominent as already mentioned but easily fixed.Ã,  In the origional image i have no doubt that face was done from a model of photograph, which is where they have captured the perfect anatomy of a face.Ã,  The face has lines where things match up if they dont drawn faces look unatural i did a very fast and dodgy paintover below to highlight this

I altered the chin because when drawing the ladies you dont even really need to define their jaw area only hint at it(i have about a hundred sheets of paper under my bed of badly drawn women, they are damn hard to draw).Ã,  i drew lines from the corner of the eyes to the corner of the lips.Ã,  This shows a line when it hits the edge of the nostrils if you dont do this on a portrait you end up with it looking abnormal( Think micheal jackson here) so you could think about maybe widening the nostril on the right side of the pic, and working more on the jaw hope that helps someÃ,

Keep going with it

MrColossal:Cheers for that:)  I really like how you put it, yeh dynamic posing is something im still coming to terms with along with foreshortening, and making a strong silouette is another thing i have become aware off.

I really dont disagree with what youve said at all and will take it on board for my next figure based cover work.

Thanks for all the replies i always get the best feedback from the ags peeps.

Im pleased to say the years of cutting my teeth working on free projects and, for no pay have finally paid off....  I finally get to follow my calling as a paid! artist, still gonna be a financial struggle and i still have to work a normal data entry 9-5 job for the moment but its a start.

This is the most recent work i have done for a D20 rpg supplement.

Its a cover for an animal human crossover creature(anthromorph??) book, 4-5 hours work.

also the interior illustrations for the different races, ill link to a page for this one to keep the loading times down on here.

looking real good! i like the lines.  I think it would benefit from some more contrast thought to make things pop out more.  seeing as how you want to keep the colours subtle i think maybe some solid black shading in the foreground objects in the first panel and some shadow in the background of the others to pop the characters out.

Digging this outa the grave i know but its 3 days to go i think im on track to get this finshed in time but theres gonna be a lot of coffee beer cigarettes, lack of sleep, self doubt, sore eyes, blurred vision and headaches...

quite a few changes all superficial with still more to do, like the boat the arm and height of the riders etc but C & C still welcome

This is pretty sound to be honest, as far as the choice of colours go i think maybe there are too many dark shades in the bottom right corner, and maybe some more shading on the front arm would add to the depth.  I really like it though keep it up!

Igor:Thanks for the edit man!  I do really like how you guys pushed the forced perspective, but im inclined to stay with the changes on my latest version,  I  know in reality the hand should be bigger, but i dont want to step into the realm of comic book foreshortening where reality is almost warped and exagerated:).

Yakspit: Yeh i like the idea about the angle of the sword, even with the gun as it is now, a slightly vanishing perspective may well look better.

cornjob:thanks,  The bottom left, and left of the image are the least worked, so i hear what your saying about the docks i already need to work some of the backdrop to the sky sharpness so could well be in a future edit.  The shadows on the dock and highlights im unsure about as yet.  I know there are certain ranges you can push in certain lightsources so at the moment im treading carefully to not create an unatural contrast for the time off day.

i still got um about 15 days to go on this yet before the deadline, but i got a very small paying job just come up so i need to finish those pics before i go back to this:(
