...and tell me what you think about it.

The back-story: I wrote this hymn/song-hybrid as a birthday present for a friend of mine who turned nineteen a few days ago. He's a member in a rowing-club from our school and he's completely crazy about the sport and this club. One night he had a little gathering at his house, I was pretty drunk and told him and everybody else, I'd write and produce a hymn for his club. Next day nobody remembered except me and when his birthday came, I got the idea to make it a gift.

Anyways, it's not meant to be a hymn in any kind of classical sense, but rather like a catchy tune (similar to the hymns for the handball/soccer world cups etc.) - I was heavily inspired by a german band when writing the hook-melody for it, but I think I've changed enough notes in order for it to be legal - and even if I haven't, I don't want to sell it or anything (around 40% of the people who listened to the piece at his birthday-party noticed the reference), just so you know.

I wrote, performed, recorded and mastered it all by myself - HERE is the link!

Unfortunately, Musician's Friend doesn't ship Vox pedals out of the US, I tried that before. :)

Haha, thanks for your effort, Mark, but I spent a rather long time informing myself over the various wah-pedal options. I'm not a crybaby-kinda guy when it comes to wah :), I like the Vox V847 (which is discontinued and hard to get) and the Budda Wah (which is a boutique-pedal and hard to get). So I was kinda happy to find one on ebay, since none of my music shops carry either of the pedals.

Anyways, I'll just not pay and wait for a better chance to get one. ^^

On a more serious note: I find it terribly ridiculous that buyers can offer to sell via credit card, Then you buy (and effectively you HAVE to buy by now) and THEN they can tell you: "use the polish/russian/chinese site and enter your credit card number". This is precisely how my situation went, how can that be?

Okay. Here's the link. So, I don't really have to give the money, that'd be great. There's no fine print as far as I can see and from his profile, I thought he looked trustworthy...

Thanks again for everyone's help, I'm really counting on you guys. :)

Hmm... Allright, I'll see what I can do with PayPal. But before that, I'm waiting for the response from eBay.

But isn't it normal that he just gives me his account number and I give him the money?

I just contacted eBay and asked whether I could still NOT buy, although chances aren't exactly great after reading their guidelines.

I don't want to give the address away, sorry. But if you give me a good reason why I should, I might reconsider.

He does accept PayPal, is that more safe? Will that help me?

I really appreciate your help so far, thanks a lot!

Hmm... This really doesn't seem very trusty. Problem is the eBay-site says I already bought it. Can I still not buy it?

EDIT: And there are other problems. The eBay page said the items were in Munich, Germany, but that seller only speaks english. His emails were full of typos as well.

Can I just send him an email telling him I don't want to buy? Argh, help!

Thanks for your post, Flibble.

Hey,

I just bought a new effects pedal for my guitar for 160â,¬. The seller (99% positive rating, power-seller) only accepts paypal or credit card. I want to pay through credit card and wrote him an email and he wants me to pay through allpay.eu - is that safe and normal?

Sorry, I'm not really a frequent eBayer and I'm a little bit unsure at the moment. Any clear-ups would be highly appreciated.

You know, I'm all for low-res, but when it comes to women, they need to be high-res. Really.

It might actually keep people away from watching if someone just briefly said what was so awful in the video.
#1312
Yes, at the moment it looks like they are performing a controlled flight (like Super-Man). It needs more chaos and the arms would be just the right thing to express that you're talking about an explosion and not three super heroes with flying-powers.

Apart from that it looks great, can't wait to see more of it (if you're willing to show more, of course). Did you check out the german DotT2-Project yet that I used to work for?
#1313
Just finished it. Nice 2-room-game, simple but done well. A few more animations wouldn't have hurt, but your sprites and backgrounds look very nice, which kinda makes up for that. Keep it up, I can't wait for a longer game! :)

People hate it, but I use Microsoft Visual C++ 6.0 - I don't know whether it's for free though, I think 6.0 isn't, but an earlier version is or something. It works well and offers a variety of useful options.

One personal thing: it not only looks like two people in love, but more like two people actually making love to me - well, not making love to me, but you see what I mean there... I think, that the man's hands that reach down to her butt give the image that impression, rather than appearing like a common hug. As well as its drawn, will it not maybe feel a bit strange for your loved-one to receive an image that apparently shows how you feel with her and then give her this image if you look at it from this way?

The above may be way to personal to you or just nonsense altogether, it really depends on your relationship. I just meant to give you this information in case you didn't thought about this yet. Hope you can take it! :)

However, then the manual would need to be translated as well (and you all know just how hard it is to have that one manual in English available, up-to-date and without errors - imagine that multiplied by the number of different languages out there, it'd be an unbelievable mess). And people would come here asking technical questions and be confused because of the English button-names in the editor etc.

Or think about the script language - that would need to be translated as well (an editor with a translated user-interface, but with an English script language would seem strange and unprofessional). And translating script languages in other languages is really, really hard to do and in some cases impossible (at least I think it's proven to be), because some languages just work different. That's basically why there are almost no real programming-languages out there in a different language than English. At least none that are as powerful as C++/AGS.

Additionally, Chris couldn't be held responsible for his editor anymore, as soon as it is available in God-knows-what-languages, that he doesn't speak.

Altogether, it seems like a cool idea (and wouldn't be too hard to realize), but it'd create tons of new problems. As dumb as it sounds, it's really a lot easier to have AGS available in only one language, English.

To the original poster: there's no such thing as AGS in another language than English, there's no German version out there either.

I think Buckethead meant that he thought the painting was great until Loominous edited it. Then it was more than great, right?

Don't know anymore parser-games that fit your description, but I just wanted to underline that you should not show the kids "Trilby Notes". Really, this game is one of the most wicked, gory, brutal and startling AGS games ever made. Don't get me wrong, I love it and it is awesome, but it's definitely not for the young ones - and I'm usually a liberal with kids and games.
