General Discussion / Re: World Cup 2006

Thank your highly unfair media and the corrupt FIFA for this win. We're just not good enough without our best man - Frings. And - although you guys are going to hate me, because Italy hit the metal twice - I do think we played better in the 2nd half.

The referee was a joke as well - he didn't favor one team, but he was wrong often. And he decided against two clear penalties for us. The first was pretty clear and the second one, he did give us a freekick but the foul had happened inside the 16-metre-box.

EDIT: Allright, the frustration's gone now. It was a good game.

HA! And now those idiots have disqualified the whole team of GREECE for every international events (for example the upcoming Europe Cup and of course all greece clubs for the uefa cup, champions league etc.) just because they somehow didn't accept the FIFA enough or something.

That's not even funny anymore, somebody needs to seriously kick their asses.

F**K THE FIFA!!! Seriously, they have been taking all the fun out of soccer for the last years and are corrupt as hell.

Italians (known for their own corruptness in soccer since that whole desaster surfaced about the clubs there) have successfully made the FIFA believe it was right to forbid Torsten Frings (best man against Argentina) to play against who - Italy. This is outrageous. Argentinian player's have started that mess after the game! The "victim" already said that he WASN'T FREAKING HIT ANYWHERE! How come they STILL do this to him even when the VICTIM says there was NOTHING? And seriously, Schweinsteiger and other people WERE HIT SERIOUSLY by Argentina-players, but there, they don't fucking investigate. Oh, and Netherlands against Portugal? They've been hitting, pushing and fouling each other both harder and more often and there again, they don't care for some reason.

This is really sad, and this is going to make it a lot harder against the good Italian team (who now claim to have not influenced the FIFA at all. Haha, And Clinton never had any affair with another girl, right?) and it's COMPLETLY UNFAIR and against everything the FIFA is SUPPOSED to be.

You know, looking back at it...

Spoiler
...the most scariest thing was when randomly trilby would become that 5das-person with mask, apron and knife. I didn't really look at first, and then came the shock...

Huh? I totally missed that part. Can you elaborate?

Answer:
Spoiler

Well, you know how Trilby looked like in that one nightmare in "5 Days A Stranger" with the apron, the welding mask and the knife? In one part of "Trilby's Notes", Trilby suddenly turned into looking the same for a few seconds randomly. It seemed as random as the times when you enter that room with the two lights on or the room on the spaceship from "7 Days A Skeptic". And that change was really easy to overlook as well, I just kinda noticed it with one eye and then looked again... SHOCK!!!111!

Hope that makes it clear what I meant! If you didn't see it, play it again and look out for it. :)

Yeah, it's great. Finished it a few days ago. Keep it up!

I am not sure if I understand correctly, but how are you drawing your tiles at the moment? In the tile engine I wrote, I used dynamics sprites, which you can draw with a transparency value. I wouldn't recommend to use anything else to be honest, objects are limited and slow as are characters in that amount.

Hmm...

Spoiler
How do I get to the pub? I have four clues, the newest one is Joe's Meeting and I can go to the three first locations (including the starting one). I don't know what to do anymore again. :)

Don't know if it helps any, but I'm stuck right there, where Mordalles is. There's nobody to talk to, no new location and I already did everything that seemed possible. Plus, I have no idea what I SHOULD do.

If you're running WinXP, then you can go to "Properties", then select "Compability" (sp?) and choose "Run with 256-colors".

If you're running something else, I have no idea.

YEEEEEESS!!!! :) Wow, my head hurts (and no, that's not from the alcoholic beverages). What a game. I have to say, Argentina did play great (as expected), in the end it was just luck and nerves. Both teams had great passages and both had bad ones. The German team made a lot of unnecessary mistakes, but they found new strength after the 0-1.

Allright, just finished it. What a great story, it's unbelievable.

Spoiler

Especially the ending, where Tribly thinks: "I can't destroy the idol, but what shall I do with it? Hide it? Where? Somewhere, where no human can ever find it agian."

That combined with "7 Days A Sceptic" - he shoots it into space in a box. That's genious.

I am not finished yet, but the game is great. First, I wasn't sure whether the text parser was a good idea (I never played ANY game with parser before in my life), but it's great, really. Even adds to the atmosphere at times and makes you sit down and really think: "what in the world could I do now?" instead of trying out random verb-object combinations.

The graphics aren't phenomenal, but they do their job, some of them are just great atmospherically (the red lights in the hotel, the slim, high doors are super scary), but the main strength is the story. Typically Yahtzee. It keeps you on the very edge of your seat, it all fits together and it has also a variety of different aspects and turnarounds to it...

I can't wait to play the fourth game that he did announce, which would completly round up this fantastic and absolutly breathtaking series. Seriously, if I had to name ONE person for the best-AGS-game creator, it would be him, no doubt. So many games with soo much atmosphere, such great stories - it's just 'yahtzee'.

Oh, and Mark, your music is great as well. Man, I was soo freaking shocked the first time. I played it at night with lights out and headphones - I know this wasn't a smart idea, but I thought I had learned from 5das and 7das, but no.

I suppose I need the crowbar to open the boarded door in the alternate dining room? Where can I get it? I have a matchbox, a piece of meat, pills and lockpicks. I don't know what to do. I already had the painting-cutscene.

Any help?

Phew, yeah. It's quite a shocker. Damn, it keeps me on the very edge of my seat... Good lord, I mean, it was to expect, but still, man, that first time... Crazy, but great. I am a little stuck, but will play more tomorrow.

Great work, and great music, too, Mark!!

Well, well, well. Netherlands are OUT. I dunno, the game was highly unfair (from both sides). There should've been more player receiving a red card right away for some of those attacks. Anyways, luck for the English team in the quarter finals, imho.

Ah, today it worked!

Very, very good stuff, Steve. Congratulations, I loved it! I'd really like to get some technical insight in how you managed to pull off those three effects (especially the water-rendering and the ball-physics). Feel free to do this via PM if you have the time and don't want to spoil things. It'd be greatly appreciated! :)

Not an entry for several reasons...

I know one of the reasons why it can't be: the zip-archive is invalid. I tried it several times. :)

EDIT: First it was 800KB, now I tried again and it's only 123KB only and none of my unzippers can handle it (WinZip, WinRAR or the WinXP Unzip-device). So, the filesize seems to vary both with using Firefox and IExplorer to download. Looks like some server/hosting problem to me.

"PlayMusic(1);" should work (with a comma at the end of the line), make sure that your file is called "MUSIC1.MID" in this case.

Which AGS version do you use? Make sure that your music file is in the correct location (in the game folder and not in the compiled-subfolder, as you said or, when you use a newer version >2.7, then in the special "Music" subfolder).

Edit: GG beat me.
