Me and Ben are continuing to develop this game, turn it into something much cooler than what I showed off as a technical prototype in the video. Here's a sneak peak shot Ben took a couple of minutes ago:

Huh, looks like I'm much better than everybody else at clicking those blue cups!

Or I just have even less of a life than everybody else? :p

Haha, dang, Babar! Yeah, I noticed I'm like way ahead on everybody else on online time on this forum. It's because I have it open in a tab all day and refresh it fairly regularly. Don't post that much though usually. Not quite sure how the forum software calculates online time!

I hope nobody remembers 2003 or 2004 haha. I was one annoying 14-year-old. Then I left the AGS forums until mid 2005 because I spend 6-7 months in the States and when I came back I had luckily matured quite a bit.

Quote from: Goldmund on Fri 18/01/2013 16:25:11That said, somehow his own creative output (games and books) seem to me to be trapped forever in the domain of fan-fiction.
I can't even put my finger on it. It's as if he was always imitating without creating a new value.

Huh? 5DAS, The Art of Theft, The Galaxy of Fantabulous Wonderment? How were these fan-fiction? Fan-fiction to what? I'm generally interested, they all seemed reasonably original to me.

Thoroughly enjoyed, as always :)

For what it's worth, either format is fine to me. Maybe mixing it up like you've been doing is the best way to go.

Oh I remember playing this back in the day haha, so cool of you to re-release it now! Downloading now!

Happy Birthday Mark!

Thanks slasher! I will definitely release it, one way or the other! We've had a bit of playtest in class today and it turns out I really need to design some easier levels, this game is HARD currently haha

My deepest condolences, Peder!

Thanks everybody!

@Ghost: I will definitely release it very soon, after a bit more polishing!

@MurrayL: You can go past enemies and it won't really punish you at the moment, they will stop targeting you once you're past them and that's it. I should probably make it so you can't do this haha!

@Daniel Thomas: I used Slick2D which is a wrapper around the LWJGL (which is a wrapper around OpenGL and what Minecraft uses directly for example). I wouldn't seriously suggest Java at all for a serious game project, we were forced to use it for this Java programming class! But apart from that, Slick2D is nice and easy to work with honestly. Used Eclipse as IDE which I also like.

@Snake: Thanks! :)

So in my first semester of studying computer science we had to make a game with Java, this is a commentated gameplay trailer of what I came up with:

I already posted this in AGS IRC but I figured I'd post it here as well, in case somebody enjoys it! Let me know what you guys think! It was developed in about 2 months!

I will compile a thread on it including a tutorial or something (along the lines of: "how do I setup unity to allow me to create a 3d point'n'click") but it'll take me a while, not only do I want it to be thorough, I'm also spending the winter vacation at home with my family so I won't have access to my desktop pc! Didn't realize there was so much interest in how to create 3d adventure games using Unity!

Quote from: Azure on Thu 20/12/2012 20:53:16Actually the Unity adventure thing is possibly do-able there is an entire book by Sue Blackman ( update due out March) which is a start to finish adventure game making tutorial.

It's 100% doable, Unity is very powerful and, as I said, I already have a prototype running after 30 minutes of work where you have rooms/scenes that you can move your character around in by clicking places. Next will be proper pathfinding and hotspots! But it's fairly easy to pull off in Unity, no question.

I'm working on a 3d point'n'click prototype in Unity right now as a matter of fact! Dunno if I qualify as speaker-material considering I'm just a computer science student at this point in time. Plus I would only be able to attend if it's not too expensive (I'm a student with very little money to spend on vacations and such) AND if the next AdventureX takes place some time where I don't have to go to university obviously!

In any case, just throwing that out there!

There is no benefit to using a Mac over a Windows PC these days and all you're doing is paying a lot of cash extra.

Well, there is a benefit if you're often in the situation where you need to plug in a Mac-formatted hard drive to read and write a bunch of files, as Ali described.

As has been pointed out by Khris, MacDrive is inexpensive and works fine (source: http://community.avid.com/forums/p/91528/521839.aspx#521839 - interesting thread for Ali too!) so it's not much of a benefit I don't think. Also I wouldn't necessarily suggest adapting to your current contacts when it's usually very common for your clients to change frequently when it comes to video editing (in a year most people might be using PCs instead of Macs and you're SOL and you payed extra), but I obviously don't know how much a factor that is in Ali's situation.

The 75 bucks for Win7 will be MUCH cheaper than the 'overhead' you pay for that magical apple logo.

Phew, I think I managed to write this without letting my... opinion on Mac users shine through too much, haven't I? :p I tried, I promise!

Oh dear, Mac-haters and their incessant butthurt. :-D

What? What I said is exactly what you said yourself in that same post. There is no benefit to using a Mac over a Windows PC these days and all you're doing is paying a lot of cash extra. Let's not turn this into a big Apple vs. PC argument-kinda-thread though, I hardly think that's in Ali's interest!

I worked for almost 2 years as a video editor for several film/tv production companies and I would strongly suggest to, as long as you're not dead set on working with Final Cut (there's no reason to be and you seem to be leaning towards Avid?), NOT pay extra for an apple product. I have to say that most of the video editing workstations I have ever used ran Avid Media Composer 5 on Windows 7 so I'm not really sure if that's a regional thing or why so many of your contacts apparently are on Mac systems. That's reserved for self-proclaimed 'media designers' here, ie. people that actually think Photoshop still runs better on a Mac in any way (which is not true - or maybe it makes them look better at Starbucks haha). Linux is a no go in the industry, my suggestion would be Avid Media Composer 5 on Windows 7 as I have used that the most and found it by far the best and most flexible setup. For reference, I have also worked with Avid Media Composer on Mac, Final Cut Pro on Mac and Premiere on both Windows and Mac. The 75 bucks for Win7 will be MUCH cheaper than the 'overhead' you pay for that magical apple logo.

Phew, I think I managed to write this without letting my... opinion on Mac users shine through too much, haven't I? :p I tried, I promise!

This is my 'studio' - well, that's actually 80% of my 23sqm apartement haha! Not pictured is the bathroom, kitchen, bed, couch and couchtable (well some of it is on there), keyboard and guitar!

Man I really need some posters or something! :)
