I'm not sure about this, so I'm not going to put a new riddle until Boyd answers, but is it "stockings?"
#262
Nope, it's Babar!

My essence comes in parts of 5
So guess my name and....look alive!
My 1st and 3rd, my next and last
2 sets of twins, they have a blast.  (The first letter and 3rd letter are the same, as are the 2nd and 4th)
The first always starts Busy, and is never on time
The second surrounds AromA, but is never upto crime.
The last of all in its gReatness and gloRy
Is the end of the staR, but not of the stoRy

So BABAR

Imagine the chatty guy with an accent like Coach Z from http://www.homestarrunner.com and you'll get the idea of what a Canadian winter is like.

Woah! I found a HUGE bug.

Spoiler
I started wandering around in the forest after Gurgi jumped in the cauldron, and all of a sudden- boom! Gurgi appears and starts following me around. Whoopsy!

Really though, is there any way to finish this game? As I mentioned above, I did the thing that SHOULD end the game, but the game just keeps going. So... I'm confused.

Dynamics. Symmetry is boring. If you look at Monkey Island or FOA sprites, you'll see that the front views aren't exactly symmetrical.

Anyway, imagine trying to draw a walking animation from that sprite. Yes, he could walk forward from that posistion, but if he was to go sideways he'd have to do some sort of fancy dance step, crossing his legs over.  Which would be absolutely HILARIOUS to see used in a game.

My advice is to make him look directly forward first, then create a side view from that.

What chew talkin' bout? That is a front view. The head is at a 3/4 angle, but the shoulders, hips and feet are pointed forward. They are turned a little, but that just gives the character a bit more of a dynamic stance.

Hooray! I am the winner!

I will probably leave this until after the new year- with exams, Christmas and various very real life things, I just don't have TIME right now.

Mmm... toffee.

In all honesty, this conversation seems very bizarre to me.  At every school I've ever been to, the rule has always been "no hats except religious headwear." So you can wear your turban, your chador, your yamulke, your whatever, but take off the baseball cap. You can also wear your communion cross, your Star of David, your Pentacle, or whatever.  You can fast during Ramadan, pray with the Christian Fellowship before classes, even keep a little shrine in your locker if you are so disposed (just no candles- they're a fire hazard). Kosher and Vegetarian meals were available (you had to ask sometimes, but they were there). My public highschool even rented out the audiotorium to a Christian group to hold prayer services on Sundays. The school doesn't have any symbols of religion, because the school itself isn't religious. But you're free to practice your religion there- just don't make others practice with you.

Here in Canada, people immigrate to live with people they are related to- it's actually the law. You have to have a sponsor who you are related to by blood, marriage or adoption, and you have to have that relationship recognized by the governmentfor a full year before you can gain landed immigrant status.  This creates neighbourhoods where there are large groups of people are all the same race and loosely related (next door neighbour is your sister's husband's cousin's neice sort of thing). The only time I've ever heard of people having a problem with this was during the SARS thingy a couple of years ago when Chinatown in Toronto basically shut itself down.

Yeah... I'm boggled by some of the reactions. Live and let live.

Critics' Lounge / Re: Michelin in bikini

I quite like your most recent version. I just have one question.

WHYYYYYYY???? Why would anyone want the Michelin Man in a tight bikini? Gah!

My take on plain clothes man.

1. Added some shading around the sleeves of the shirt, trying to create a bit more depth to the body- the left arm now seems to be more in front of the body, and the right arm behind, rather than the body being facing straight forward.

2. Changed the shape of the sleeves.  Because the POV is slightly birds eye, all the verticle curves should have the centre lower than the ends.

3. Moved the right arm in maybe two pixels. It seemed like he was holding his arms out from his body rather unnaturally. This is a bit more relaxed, and gives a better curve to the shoulder.

4. Changed the shape of the feet.  In mens shoes the toes are usually lower than the ankle. Also, his feet were just plain huge. As a general rule, they should be about the same length as the forearm.

I really like the shading on the shirt, and the head is great. This is going to be  nice looking game.

No, it's not that.
With the photo you have to DRAW the room and make it Adventure-like.

Oh, okay. I see where I got confused. A "scenario" is either a plot outline or a proposed sequence of events.  You probably meant to use "background" which is the word used for the main room art in an AGS game.

However, we do have the "From concept to finished product" competition, which is exactly like what you're planning, except that instead of a photo it's a loose sketch. It's a really sporadic competition- I think we've only had three since it was first proposed- but it's enjoyable when it's there.

I'm looking forward to my own game, Candace Grace: Bard's Blood.

I think I said that last year, too.

Bleah.
#274
We have a competition sort of like that- puzzle time. You're given a scene and a problem and you have to figure out a puzzle that would be the means to the end.  It seems sort of the same idea as your competition, but I might be misunderstanding.

I don't usually go to the Hints forum, so I'd missed that post. I just have to say...

BWAHAHAHAHA!!!!

Einoo: I said 16 because that's what it says in the three golden rules on the post reply screen. I've never even bothered to look at the test until now- CJ started that up after I joined.

I say go ahead and register. In the posts you've made you've MORE than proven that you're mature enough. You spell properly, you have well thought out comments, and you've yet to call anyone stupid names.

Come on... all the cool kids register!

#276
Half of the teasing in this thread is based on the fact that the original post is completely random.  It states two articles of faith (I'm not going to start an arguement by calling them either "facts" or "opinions") and a question.

If ggss had actually put a little effort into the post--"I am a Christian, these are my beliefs, this is why I believe them, this is what other people say, what are your thoughts?"-- we could have had a discussion. As it is, we would have written similar responses to a thread called "My puppy is awesome! My puppy can do tricks!" with the entire post consisting of "What do you think of puppies?"

I think that Einoo is under 16, because he (she?) mentioned in another thread that he/she couldn't register for a couple of years.

So we have a weird thing going on- Einoo is mature enough to follow the rules, so he/she can't register. Where as the underage people who don't follow the rules aren't mature (generalization of the century) but it makes it possible for them to register.

A paradox a paradox a most peculiar paradox!

Santiagarro hath returnéd!

I think the Old Testament is awesome, but the sequel wasn't as good. Not nearly enough wrath.

General Discussion / Re: Clans?
Wed 08/12/2004 03:57:14
Holy COW that's an old thread! I think that Farl's comment about "clans" was based on the fact that- at the time- there were a whole bunch of "Is there anyone here from (insert country/continent/geographical location here)? We should form a club!" type threads, and to be honest they were getting annoying.  This thread seemed to be another such.

Yes, this is an international community, so we get snippets of all sorts of languages and alphabets.  Some people were having a conversation in Cantonese (I think) a while back, and my computer couldn't even display the symbols for it.  It's just natural for people to slip into their native languages.  It's not done to exclude people, its not done with malicious intent, so it doesn't become a problem.

If people were writing in, for example, Urdu (random language that I STRONGLY doubt anyone here speaks) so that they could say things about other people without the people knowing, then we'd have a problem. But that doesn't happen. It just seems to me to be people sharing a language. Woo.

BTW: I just read a post on b3ta.com about losing a tasty lunch to some security guard, written by 'dragonrose', who likes old school Sierra games. Is it you, or a large (and quite scary) coincidence?
Nope, no coincidence. That's me. It's a small world after aaaaaall...
