As of today, I work full time in an small, family owned health food store as a dishwasher.  As of tomorrow, I work part time in a small, family owned health food store as a dishwasher.  Stupid General Manager making everyone lose hours.  I hate my General Manager.  Because of his lazyness, (a.k.a. refusal to give my Supervisor a piece of paper) I'm stuck at getting $7.00 an hour, and I've worked here for TWO YEARS!!!

* Dragonrose rends things.

Oh well. Only 15 more work days before I move and never have to go back there again!

After the birth of "Little Stormy," as we like to call him, CJ disappeared. Now there's this new guy called Pumaman, who updates AGS like nobody's buisness, backs up the forums, and is apparently friends with "Aztec Guy."

Who is this Aztec Guy? Where did CJ go? Who put the Bop in the Bop-shoo-bop-shoo-bop? Experts believe these questions, an questions like them, are best left unanswered.

Yes. Yes we should.  And if you want real Canadian wackiness, check out The Vestibules,  especially the Grunge Song, I Don't Want To Go To Toronto, You're a Hamburger and Exclusive Interview with Mr. Dressup.

Anyway, I really like the songs on your MP3 site, Trap.  Especially "Dance Like an Idiot."  Very catchy.

That bit about saving is very interesting, Taryuu.  The reason why I like Sierra games is BECAUSE there's so many opportunities to go wrong.  It really forces the player to think.

As an example, the I got really involved in The Colonel's Bequest because  there was a real sense of danger about the game.  In the Monkey Island games (the only LEC games I've played) I never really worried about what was going to happen next.  There was never anything to worry about, because Guybrush can't die.

Guybrush would always be safe, but Laura could die, and frequently did.  I grew attatched to each Laura- this one might have found the cigar butt in the secret passage, that one may have had an important conversation with the lawyer.  My family had notebooks filled with maps and notes about where certain things could happen.

Guybrush was going to be a pirate... and I couldn't really care less.  It seemed like an inevitability.  Laura might- or might not- solve the mystery and make it through the night.  We had to get to the end of the game (more than once) to find out whether she got it right or not.

Back on topic, I'd have to say my games tend to be more Sierra-influenced.  I've only played three LEC games (one of which I haven't completed) as compared to the 25+ Sierra games I've played to the end, so I don't have enough experience with LEC to be really influenced by them.

Out of curiosity, where could I find the LucasArts Game Design Philosiphy? I'm curious as to what it says.

Wow. That's a long post.

Happy B-Day!  ;D :D

6:15? I believe you will have to try that again...I don't drink, and I'm pretty anti-alcohol, but come on! If you're going to do it do it right!  ;D

later,

What really sucks is that I started drinking at 6:00.

And SSH? There's also an "h" in night and an "i" in it, but you aren't complaining about that, now are you?

General Discussion / It's ma birthday today!
Mon 21/07/2003 02:08:35
Topic says it all, but I shall blather away for your own time wastage joy

Today was my birthday, and as of midnight last night I have been legally old enough to drink. As of approximatly 6:15 this evening, I have discovered that I'm a freaking lightweight. I couldn't even finish half a tiny cup of meade. (I went to a rennaisance festival to celebrate my birthday.  My parents bought me rasberry meade because I'm a rennaisance/history nut and we thought it was funny.)

I have a headache now and my stomache is doing naughty things t shouldn't be.  Nigt

Thought I'd mention that Vel was really really nice and previewed the game in the AGS Ezine.  Go Check it out!  I'll post the screenshots seen in the preview in this thread next month.  It'd be kind of silly for him to have "exclusive" screenshots that I posted all over the place.

Thanks again, Vel!

It's not much, but it made me chuckle.

Probably should do something with my own work... I'll get on that later.

I must put in my three cents and state that I actually liked the "Try wearing a corsette" line, as well as the build up, because I HAVE worn a corsette, and yeah, it is pain.  There is squishings and pokings of things that should neither be squished nor poked.  Gotta love that whalebone! The chick was actually wearing one of the most comfortable corsettes that I've seen (Elizabethan effigy style, front and back lacing.  Comparatively lots of give to it)  Then again, I doubt anyone actually cares.

I loooooooooved this movie.  It has made me realize that my local film reviewer is nuts, because he didn't like it.  This movie had muskets, pirates, skeletons, curses, Orlando Bloom, sword fights, a monkey, hangings, guys with long hair, AWESOME costumes, and many other wonderful things. This has been added to my "Gotta get it on DVD" list.

More dragon jokes from me! (You know you like it)

Why don't you see dragons at the zoo?
Because they hide behind the garbage cans.

What's big, scaly and eats cows for breakfast?
I don't know.
I don't either but there's one right behind you!

And a couple of variations  on the dragon in the refrigerator joke my friends came up with...
1. How do you put a knight into a refrigerator?
Turn off the light.

2. How do you put a dragon into a refrigerator?
Tell the dragon there's a knight in there

That's what makes the Gabriel Knight games so good - that wonderful balance between seriousness and humor.

I definetly agree with you on this one, Dave.  I don't think that a game where there is NO humour, NO lightheartedness, could really work.  Not just games, but also in movies and books as well.  There are moments when there is humour in real life, even in the middle of serious situations, so it makes sense for there to be humour in your stories, even if it's a serious story.  In Macbeth, you have the Porter. In Hamlet, you've got the gravediggers.  It's difficult to argue that these characters aren't funny, and it's impossible to say that these stories are comic.

Also, adding comedy to a serious situation increases the contrast between the serious bits and the silly bits.

Bah, I'm probably not saying what I want to very clearly.  I may add more later.

Meddle not in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup. (My old sig)

How do you know there's a dragon in your refrigerator?
The ice cream is melted and the steak has big teeth marks in it.

Why are dragons wiser than chickens?
Have you ever heard of Kentucky Fried Dragon.

Did you hear about the dragon that went on a crash diet?
He squashed a catapult and three knights.

What did the dragon eat before going to bed?
A mid-knight snack.

What steps would you take if you were being chased by a dragon?
Big ones

What did the dragon say when it saw the armoured knight?
Oh no, not canned food again!

What do dragons call armoured knights after they're eaten?
Bites in shining armour

What do dragons eat at the local pub?
Waiters and barmaids

Where do dragon slayers learn their trade?
At knight school

What do you get when you cross a dragon and a snowman?
Frost bite!

And a small collection that all goes together...

1.  How do you put a knight into a refrigerator?
Open the refrigerator, put in the knight and close the door.

2.  How do you put a dragon into a refrigerator?
Open the refrigerator, take out the knight , put in the dragon and close the door.

3.  There is an important conference of fairy tale creatures. Who doesn't come?
The dragon. The dragon is in the refrigerator.

4.  There is a desert you must cross. But it is inhabited by
dragons. How do you manage it?
Just cross it. All the dragons (except one) are attending the conference.

And another two that go together

What did the Knight say when a dragon went running by?
Look, there goes a dragon!

What did the Knight say when a dragon went running by wearing sunglasses?
Nothing. He didn't recognize it.

I love dragons ;D

Amen.

I find it interesting, though, that when Petaglair asked how many girls are on the board, he was accused of trying to pick up chicks.  But when Yufster asks, it's hunky dorry.

By the way, Yufster, American or European football?

I am celebrating the fourth of July by doing nothing, because I'm still recovering from Canada Day, where I went to a Scottish Highland Games.

I just managed to work three different national celebrations into one scentence. Cool!

Anyway, happy America day or whatever you call it.
