[The Innocent Mage]

I would love to take part in this too! I'm a pretty slow reader but I would like to give it a try, I mostly read fantasy but I'm more than happy to read something out of my comfort zone, I may find something I really enjoy.

I would like to put forward some books I have enjoyed in the past, and I'm always happy to reread
The Innocent Mage & The Awakened Mage by Karen Miller (its a two parter)
and any book by Sir Terry Pratchett.

Can we post more then one sketch/concept? I have one quick one that I would like to share but I have a feeling I will have more then one idea before I settle on the final concept. I have never really done anything like this before I would like to show all my steps so the group can help and advise me.


The idea behind this:
the guy is a kidnapper in an interview room and the game is based around just that, so it was very hard to come up with anything other then what is already shown in the game (at least for me)
but I tried to let the lighting tell the mood, and maybe show that he is evil but still human?
let me know what you think, I'm going to try to come up with some more ideas

P.S I have never tried to paint in photoshop before, so this may not end well!

I am with you qptain Nemo, its my dark secret too! I always choose the female when playing a game that lets me choose, my Femshep kicked ass.

I have always been labeled as the guy that would come out someday and everyone would say "oh sox, yer.. glad he finally came out, always knew he was gay!" but I'm not, in a very happy relationship with a beautiful woman and I LOVE boobs!

I have just always enjoyed the things I have been told I shouldn't like pink fluffy things, unicorns (horses with swords on their heads!), dressing up and playing females in video games, and never really liked sports. for along time it used to really get me down and I would feel bullied for having a "feminine" view of the world, it was only in my adult years that I start to get over it and give the middle finger to anyone that had a problem with what I enjoy.

A lot of that bullying comes from other peoples points of view on what I should be and do based on my gender, and that seems to come from parenting and media.

*shrugs*

I don't have a problem with a male character helping a female character, but its nice to see some inventive writing. Too often the damsel is used as a lazy plot device to give the protagonist a reason to do something. There are millions of other things to write about so it would be nice to see a bit more creativity. The videos have helped make me think about one of my own creations in particular and I've kind of used it as a guide for "how not to write a main character!"

but this is just my view

I'm so happy to see so many taking part in the theme we choose, can't wait to see what games you make!

Wow I love Erics idea, I would love to take part in that! I'm not sure using someone elses random game is a good idea.

so after reading all the comments and trying to take it all on board, here is the updated version
•not so much of a piss yellow feel
•changed the colour of the sky and the sun (moved the sun higher too, for a different time of day)
•foreground tree has less blur
•made the shadows lighter to fit more with the colours??
•tried blurring deeper background elements but wasn't happy with the look, so changed it back
•also tried making the shadows longer but felt it was too overpowering

Sorry to harp on, but would the technique you're working on allow (hypothetically) for scaling down a larger screen size like 1280x or 1920x?

I would also like to know about this! working in a higher res would be amazing
