The voting is going to work this way: You can give 3, 2 and 1 point respectively to different songs you choose. It also be nice to give an explanation behind your vote, but it's not necessary.
Also, you cannot vote for your own entry.

Let the voting commence!

The voting closes on 20th June.
#362
So the only entries I see are mine and creamy's. Anyone else working on an entry perhaps? Or we starting the voting process?
#363
Damn creamy that's bleak!

Anyhow's here's my entry https://soundcloud.com/ledzepforever/apartfalling

Mostly focused on the decay side of life. I'm imagining a small rural town full of rust (twin peakish) accompanied by this.

What is a Music Competition?

Well, a music competition, is a competition where music composers can compose and release their musical creations to compete for the ultimate priz, acceptance and recognition.
It's meant to be fun, no one should care about winning, but improving their own skill set. Or trying new things. Be creative!

Who is hosting it? And why is this back again?

I'm hosting it, and the reason it's back, is to make it interesting again.

The main problems of the old tune competition, which explained the lack of entries, were:
1) Unclear deadlines.
2) Very strict themes.
3) Very strict rules.

THEME: DEATH

8)
Christian Science :  the lie of life in matter :  that which is unreal and untrue

RULES:

As long as it fits the theme (and that should be fairly broad), you can compose and post from at least one to x songs. You can even make an EP.
For example you can compose a hip-hop beat that samples the world LOVE and makes a pun as you hear a tennis crowd cheering at the end. You can do anything, as long as you can explain (if needed) how it does fit.

          No limit on duration:
-You wanna make 2 bars, make 2 bars.

          No limit on genres:
-Any genre goes, death metal songs are fine.

         No limit on covers:
          - You can cover an older composition of yours or someone else's, as long as the cover is obvious and you are being honest (aka posting the older song)

          No limit on file type:
          - MIDIs are fine.
          - OGGs are fine. (Preferably at 320kbps)
          - WAV are fine.
          - FLACs are fine.
          - MP3s are fine. (Preferably at 320kbps CBR or V0 VBR)

For the lossy filetypes (mp3, ogg) above 128 CBR (Constant Bitrate) plz.

          Limit on the time deadline.
-Entries that are delivered late, unless I'm notified before, won't be accepted, unless the entry is delivered within 24 hours after the deadline.

Deadline:

The deadline is till the 12th of June, that is, because on June 15th I'll post another theme, while this competition goes on the voting part. Voting will be public, and can be done by anyone. We'll see more rules about it, when we get there.

Workshop:

If you wanna do your entries, workshop style, that's highly advised. Going into detail, explaining your process, and how you work, if you want. No harm in sharing, people can input on that, but please do so in a respectable manner.

I really like the diversity of everything posted so far. Very different approaches to well, a very open-ended theme, but I'm glad to see every one of them. <3 so far. When we get to voting, I'll gladly share my thoughts on them. But I'm loving them all so far!

My entry!

https://soundcloud.com/ledzepforever/p-r-o-m-i-s-e

I really felt the music going through the stages of love, from not-quite-sure at the start with a feeling of a heart beating fast, and then through an initial crescendo of feelings, and then backing off a bit, and mellowing out towards the end...

I felt you were telling a love story with this piece and it would be awesome paired with a visual montage of a young-to-old couple over the years...

Awww, thanks Mandle, I have to say this is one of the songs I've enjoyed more composing over the last 2 years. Glad to see you picture it like this. I personally think of a couple running around dancing (old musical of the 60s-70s) and then at the end, one remains on their own and the other person fades away like a memory.

is "variable" a global variable ?

Anyhow to not make this confusing for bx83, Snarky's post is the best answer here. If you want to crossfade do let us know.

If he wants to crossfade them it does.

It's that time of the year again, and I've been looking to that post from Gurok, about the tune competition and I think we should bring it back. Make it monthly deadlines. So 12 runs of it. Inspiration is very weird and themes are a bit hard to follow if they are strict. So I'm suggesting we go very abstract and open-ended. We can pick 8 feelings (since those are the months left) and make these as the themes. That way anyone that can compose isn't restricted by genres or minutes or anything like that.

My suggestion is to start with "LOVE" as first theme. Love has many expressions and that doesn't tie anyone to any genre in any way. Thoughts? Is anyone really interested in something like this?
#375
Oh and before i forget, thanks cat. You did an amazing job organizing and coordinating this with Snarky and AGA and whoever else I may be forgetting here. And knowing this is a very stressful thing, you pulled it off nicely. Bici used to drink whiskey. He said it helps :D

Here are the results, the wiki will be updated within the next days:

I went and updated it, run a check see if i haven't fucked up anything

http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/wiki/AGS_Awards_2016

It was a wonderful night, thanks to everyone that voted for Until I Have You in any category, whether it got nominated or actually got an award back. Took me goddamn 10 years to get an award, but we brought it home, boys. It was an emotional night, even though most people don't think of the AGS Awards as prestigious or as valuable, I have a place for them in my heart. That was why Wyz and I went through all that trouble to make the ceremony via an IRC client in the first place. Snarky has cleaned up the client wonderfully, kudos to Snarky for that, commendable.

I have to say that the awards were very shared this year, glad to see all games that I believe deserved an award get one. I wanted Stair Quest to get an award to be honest, and I think that Journey had amazing animation (albeit very little of it, because it's a demo), not saying that Shardlight didn't deserve that award, it did. I've ported that game, and there's a ton of animations in it, all done frame by frame by Ben304, he's wonderful, not taking away his spotlight, he truly deserves that award.

That's the thing you know with this years awards, all games were really good in any category, I don't think I'd be "that was unjust" if Until I Have You didn't get programming or best non-adventure game or best gameplay. In the same way that for example in the Music section all games were amazing and fully deserving to win. Nathaniel's gritty acoustic guitar focused soundtrack for Shardlight, Clifftop's heavily distorted and noisy soundtrack for Kathy Rain, Stair Quest's chiptunish trip back to the early 90s, my own Synthwave action-packed soundtrack for Until I Have You, and Journey Of Iesir's symphonic crescendos.

That's what we have to keep, this wonderful variety and appreciation for each other. So thanks, thanks for letting me be a part of this talented community.

Music channels don't work, as far as I've tried.
Only fading sounds in and out will do what you are trying to do here.

Also your first line is triggering the sound to play again on each loop. I can paste a small code that does what you want, if you want, so it's easier to explain myself.
#378
Actually you guys are right, let me fix.

EDIT: Alright properly fixed now, link remains the same. It ain't much still, but this took 7 hours and i spent a lot of it on drawing properly (best i could do at least)
#379
it says "the end" yeah.
#380
The game says "the end" and then it quits, so no, no crash.
