So, since tomorrow's christmas and we're celebrating with relatives, I though I'd bake a cake, Here's how (qnd where) it turned out after I had taken care of the din the smoke detectors were making: and opened all windwo to clear the smoke & stench:

2 more photo's on my balcony:

Here's the inside, now you fully understand why I wouldn't let anyone eat it (as if there was a doubt in your mind).

Alas, Simon & Seamus, eat your heart out! This is what happens if you set the oven temperature too high (whether accidentlally or on purpose).
I don't think it was the rum I added to the cake mix, because I've since made a different cake (the recipe for which called for an apple, so I've also added my rum-raisins and I put some rum through the mix) as per mu traditional apple-pie recipe (hey, I'm Dutch and they sell rum in the supermarket here.....) I was gonna make an apple pie, but since that would've been too much for the small company on christmas day, I decided I'd stick to a cake.

Let me take the opportunity to say this:

Merry christmas to all!

I'll admit it's been a while since I've checked it, but http://www.indylc2.com doesn't seem operational anymore. Has there been anannouncement I missed? I get forawaaaarde from the LC2-website to http://www.netland.se/obetalda/ And it's not as if I understand Swedish or anything, but either there's some server trouble or the site has disappeared (my guess is LucasArts found out and wasn't too pleased.)

Hi all,

This seemed like the most discrete place to post about this, and I wanted the world to know, so here goes: I've been bitten by the blog-bug as well, you can find it at:
http://theyarehere.wordpress.com/
Beware that this blog contains my political points of view, and I'm only attacking (yes, it's that kind of blog) politicians in my own country (as of yet, no guarantees about the future) so most of you won't be particularly offended, at most humored by how I write about Dutch politicians... It helps me vent my opinions without causing friction on other places., such as the AX84 BBS. I hope to be able to welcome you as a visitor soon!
Moderators: feel free to delete this post if it's considered inappropriate.

OK, I'll say that I quite like this game so far - even though I can't get out of the first room! The humour is quite nice, not exactly how Douglas Adams would've done it, but close enough to not be a clone and be very much your own. and still funny enogh to remind us (me, anyway) of DA.

I'm stuck
Spoiler
in the bedroom. AD tells me he can't leave the room as he misses the door by a good 18 inches. There's something I should do as well. I've already looked out the window a few times and seen the yellow bulldozer - should I do that many more times? The phone broke as it fell on the floor, I can't pick it up anymore - it won't even highlight anymore -
[close]
So I'm effectively stuck. Please halp?

Hi Pumaman (aka Chris), I've started a thread at this url:
http://www.miez.nl/yabbse/index.php?topic=1044.msg13495#msg13495

about Indy Fountain of Youth demo not responding to my mouse cursor when the game is windowed: I can start the game but the Screen 7 logo remains displayed for a little while (in fact, it stays on until I move the window, after which I see the startup screen, but the Windoze mouse cursor disappears when I move it into that window (which does have the focus, BTW) I don't ever ge to see the game cursor, And therefore I cannot do anything with the game itself, apart from shutting it down with Alt+F4 (I presume a click on the X-window-button will also work, but I'm a keen keyboard user myself.

I was advised to come here because ithey use AGS to develop the game, so here I am.

OK all, I am hearing this fantastic music right now, it would make a great sample if I could copy it and make a loop of a few seconds, looping it would last hours of course. Just what I need for my game.

But I might end up breaking a few copyright laws and I don't intend to do so (not publicly - i.e. including the song in my game - anyway). Does anyone know if it's OK to include only a sample from said song and looping it? So that's not the same as copying/distributing the entire song.

As an aside, I've stumbled upon interesting post on another  website : Melo's Prog Bazaar

Hi all,

I've restarted work on my original (first ever) AGS-project: Day of the dead pirate. Former working title: A Spirit's Quest. I've yet to decide on the actual title, but the intro screen isn't done yet so I can still change it (the title) without throwing away too much work. This game is inspired by (of course) the MI-series, and mostly MI1 and MI2 (which are my favorite ones of the series. And also Dott. I've posted some of my backgrounds up for use by anyone who likes them, but now I've started finishing the game I've made them for.

The story outline won't change however:

story
you were a pirate, a vicious one if you're to be believed (a bit like Guybrush was mighty if he was to be believed) but after the accident (an explosion) you are nothing more than a ghost. You very much would like to have your (or actually, any) body back again, this requires a voodoo magician (do parts ring a bell yet?) in later editions of me series you'll get to collect bodily parts, from, say, dead pirates etc. So, this 1st edition of the game will become like a demo for the rest of the series.

So basically, you're playing the bad guy for a change. I'm intending to make the player clearly a bad guy later on, though at first he'll just be a sorry little ghost without body. This is the first part of a series, this whole project was first intended as a single long game but I've decided to split it up into multiple short ones. Being so unfamiliar with AGS I'll need lots of time to make a good (ish) short game. And having nothing to release until then did not seem like a nice idea.

Progress so far:
Backgrounds: 35% done
Puzzles: got about 40% figured out (but not scripted yet), while creating the storyline I've made up most of the puzzles.
Scripting: About 0% as of yet (excluding some of the Room-editor Interactions, which are mostly done). But none of the hardcore programming stuff
Music/sound: 0%. Have got some good ideas, but copyright issues prevent me from implementing them. Have to fine my way around them, while still using (parts of) songs ripped from albums. :o

Screenies
A beach scene

A churchyard scene.

BTW Some of you may recognize the parts from the MI2 2.7 template (I believe that's what it's called), which is what I'm using)

Oh and I have to get much better at spriting, but for ease of creation I've stuck with some eyes only for the ghost. By the time he's supposed to gte a body I'll be better at making sprites, I promise!

Oh and I'll also include cool references to actual music (anyone heard of the band Can? They're real good) and some refs to actual LEC-games. Sort of easter egg-things.

EDIT: I've used png instead of jpg (as Akatosh says a lot)

Critics' Lounge / Got free images up for grabs
Fri 02/02/2007 20:12:39
OK all, I've some images up for grabs for anyone interested in using them. For all I care you make desktop BGs of them, but here's the site where I posted them:

http://home.planet.nl/~ooije375/ags/ags.html

I was going to make a game but never got beyond this stage for a variety of reasons.

I made them in a style similar to DOTT 'cause that was easiest for me. I hope you guys like them and can make something good (ie a good game!) with them. I was going to make a game about a dead pirate needing/wanting a new body. working title: LeChuck (Captain Deadbeard) Island: Body Quest | The spirit's flesh

A Spirit's Quest: Finding the Flesh
I could waste a lot of time to tell you what story I had in mind (it was quite fleshed out,( to use an inappropriate pun given this game's storyline), but look at the pics instead (their the reason behind this post) I'm quite proud of them.

Feel free to use them yourself for a game or whatever..
sadly (hence the thread icon)  I won't be using them anymore, but I reserve the right to have a sudden flash of inspiration / time on my hands/ AGS-capabilities, but for now they're free to use for anyone with more of the mentioned items than I have.

OK I modded the links (removed space in the names), now the downloads should work. and the imgs should load on the page.
Sorry for any inconvenience!

OK I added one more (beach background with trees), that's the one I had in mind while writing these chunks of unashamed praise for my own work. I also have one bmp with a rocky hill on the background, a stretch of mountain almost running until into the sea, with just a small stretch of beach to keep it's foundations dry.
I don't think that that part is stilli included in th XCF-file, so I'll leave that upto your own imaginations.

Best of luck with these files!

Here's a cool topic I read about in a sciemtific mag: Antikythera.. A group of divers discovered, in 1901 just by the coast of the island of Antikythera, an ancient Greek contraption which is probably the world's first computer. made of brass cogs etc. (picture Indy FoA-images with this story) It appears to be an astronomical device, housing all the astronomical knowledge of the era, it helps the user calculate the trajectory of the sun (after all, earth was the centre of the galaxy).

This immediately sprung to my mind as a cool game concept. Like Indy: Fate of Antikythera or something of the like.

For more information/inspiration, see:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Antikythera_mechanism

If only I had the capacity to make a game as good as I can picture this idea deserving...

Is anyone else inspired by this?

(Sorry if this kind of thread is unwanted, I've been away from the AGS-community for a while, and not exactly for making my own earthshatteringly good game)

Hi all,

I've recently acquired Indy4 (Fate of Atlantis) over the internet, got the official boxed 3.5" diskette version and guess what? 14 years of existence has proven too much for the last disk (5 out of 5). Is there anyone here who could help me get a copy of this disk's contents?

It's only disk 5 that I'm interested in. There are 2 bad sectors on it that I can't seem to remove. I can install the game from a salvaged copy but the bad sectors have corrupted the copy. So when I run the game in SCUMMVM, I get an error message "Room 98 not in room 98 at 962094940 in atlantis.001". SCUMMVM then quits.

Please note that this is NOT illegal since I'm in the posession of the genuine article, it's just that one of the disks is damaged. So if anyone could please, please help me? Pretty please?
---
Edit: I've acquired the atlantis.001 file and the game starts up beautifully! Thanks everyone for offering your help!
