I just downloaded the A tale of 2 Kingdoms demo and have run into the same problem again, in fact, when I brought this Firefox window to the front I kept seeing the window " Paralax editor" (the title of the ATOTK-window) in the taskbar and could no longer bring it to the front again. I used the desktop icon to minimize all windows and ever since the ATOTK-window remained minimized.I could not close the window by right clicking on it and closing it;  By using Task mgmt I was *eventually* able to shut down the game.

FYI (not Fountain of Your Information), I use an Asus PCIE-graphics card, EN8400GS. And I use XP SP1, I have a newly installled PC (I'm very pleased with my much more free HD-space now and my Intel Core quad CPU)

Sorry I don't knoe ehat other tehnical details you'd like to hear (if any), but please ask! This is a weird issue and I've never come across it before.

Hi Pumaman (aka Chris), I've started a thread at this url:
http://www.miez.nl/yabbse/index.php?topic=1044.msg13495#msg13495

about Indy Fountain of Youth demo not responding to my mouse cursor when the game is windowed: I can start the game but the Screen 7 logo remains displayed for a little while (in fact, it stays on until I move the window, after which I see the startup screen, but the Windoze mouse cursor disappears when I move it into that window (which does have the focus, BTW) I don't ever ge to see the game cursor, And therefore I cannot do anything with the game itself, apart from shutting it down with Alt+F4 (I presume a click on the X-window-button will also work, but I'm a keen keyboard user myself.

I was advised to come here because ithey use AGS to develop the game, so here I am.

If we end up choosing France (or anywhere else in Europe), consider me a possible attendee.
Me too!

I know a lot of artists have covered each other, but do they have to pay royalties or anything? I wouldn't be using any samples from the song(s), just the same chord progressions and lyrics.
To answer this one subquestion of the whole lot: Yes, they do have to pay royalties. this of course excludes traditional songs and other public domain songs. I don't think you'd have to pay royalties for playing national anthems!

i's almost pefect now.apart from the 2 small openings:a bit flat, perhaps you could fill up the darkness like you did so well with the central opening.

I quite admire your courage for using MSPaint, it's not the most forgiving (but it'll do if you're cautious enough).

I miss a fade or something else to indicate that the horizon is far away, maybe use trees or whatever getting smaller and smaller near the horizon.

Also the castle seems like a very flat pane. No dimension at all.

I've only just noticed this thread, and I must say that it does sound promising, not just the graphics but also the story.

I think the eyes are adorable and a clever idea.  :D
Thanks a lot! I'm going to redraw them, to make them even more adorable.

But It just happened to match the type of character: A ghost. The story just happened to be written that way. And of course it's very easy to draw. No problems with making to make good walkcycles etc. I'll just have to make them bob up and down during walking. He'll do something similar when talking.

Thanks for the clarifications guys.

I guess I was wrong with my basic assumptions.

I've sent a mail to Spoon Records requesting permission to use (parts of) their recordings in my NON-COMMERCIAL, SUITABLE FOR ALL AGES  game. I've been humble, hope it helps. Let's hope that I get a positive answer.

Both are OK in my book, but since France is so much closer, I'll  vote for that. I've never been to a Mittens before, so I'd vote for France for my firrst-ever Mittens.

BTW I take it that Mittens is just a gathering of AGS-geeks (like us) as an excuse to hang out with each other, right? Being so globally dispersed and brought together only by the internet, this kind of meeting was invented as a way for like-minded souls to get physically together and meet up. See who's behind the avatar.

Ask Timbaland.
I'm trying to, but I can't find user Timbaland. Is there anything you could tell me about this (this user / this issue) ?

Too dark :P

I would also say too linear.

I'm afraid too dark is also my opinion. Or at least too much black in the middle. It could do with some lighter area in the middle. Maybe add some grey details inside the monastery to break up the large black plane?

OK all, I am hearing this fantastic music right now, it would make a great sample if I could copy it and make a loop of a few seconds, looping it would last hours of course. Just what I need for my game.

But I might end up breaking a few copyright laws and I don't intend to do so (not publicly - i.e. including the song in my game - anyway). Does anyone know if it's OK to include only a sample from said song and looping it? So that's not the same as copying/distributing the entire song.

As an aside, I've stumbled upon interesting post on another  website : Melo's Prog Bazaar

Do you need any help with this game? I can do sprites or music, if needed.
Thanks for the offer, check your PM.

Hi all,

I've restarted work on my original (first ever) AGS-project: Day of the dead pirate. Former working title: A Spirit's Quest. I've yet to decide on the actual title, but the intro screen isn't done yet so I can still change it (the title) without throwing away too much work. This game is inspired by (of course) the MI-series, and mostly MI1 and MI2 (which are my favorite ones of the series. And also Dott. I've posted some of my backgrounds up for use by anyone who likes them, but now I've started finishing the game I've made them for.

The story outline won't change however:

story
you were a pirate, a vicious one if you're to be believed (a bit like Guybrush was mighty if he was to be believed) but after the accident (an explosion) you are nothing more than a ghost. You very much would like to have your (or actually, any) body back again, this requires a voodoo magician (do parts ring a bell yet?) in later editions of me series you'll get to collect bodily parts, from, say, dead pirates etc. So, this 1st edition of the game will become like a demo for the rest of the series.

So basically, you're playing the bad guy for a change. I'm intending to make the player clearly a bad guy later on, though at first he'll just be a sorry little ghost without body. This is the first part of a series, this whole project was first intended as a single long game but I've decided to split it up into multiple short ones. Being so unfamiliar with AGS I'll need lots of time to make a good (ish) short game. And having nothing to release until then did not seem like a nice idea.

Progress so far:
Backgrounds: 35% done
Puzzles: got about 40% figured out (but not scripted yet), while creating the storyline I've made up most of the puzzles.
Scripting: About 0% as of yet (excluding some of the Room-editor Interactions, which are mostly done). But none of the hardcore programming stuff
Music/sound: 0%. Have got some good ideas, but copyright issues prevent me from implementing them. Have to fine my way around them, while still using (parts of) songs ripped from albums. :o

Screenies
A beach scene

A churchyard scene.

BTW Some of you may recognize the parts from the MI2 2.7 template (I believe that's what it's called), which is what I'm using)

Oh and I have to get much better at spriting, but for ease of creation I've stuck with some eyes only for the ghost. By the time he's supposed to gte a body I'll be better at making sprites, I promise!

Oh and I'll also include cool references to actual music (anyone heard of the band Can? They're real good) and some refs to actual LEC-games. Sort of easter egg-things.

EDIT: I've used png instead of jpg (as Akatosh says a lot)

Did I miss a link you intended to include?

I have no use for a Strat in the game I've been making (on hold), but I play guitar so I'm sorta interested.Shame I couldn't find a link.

There is one thing which has annoyed me about the demo: the claim that Hitler would personally come over to "interrogate" Indy.

This rather preposterous claim (would not have happened for real, Hitler had his Henchmen for the dirty/risky work) is supposed to instill a sense of urgency in the player, but another means should be used in my opinion. If at all necessary, there is no clock ticking away in this game  impending doom if the clock hits 0 (nor should there be one, it's an adventure-game, not an arcade game).

Oh and one other thing: I've just seen  Chaplin's The Great Dictator. It would be great if references to Adenoid Hynkel or Benzino Napaloni could be included in the game. (easter eggs) or refer to a famous Jewish barber.

Keep up the good work! And finish the game ASAP, please. OK real life(c)  usually gets in the way to slow progress down, but I hope it won't be too badly with this project. O I also hope LEC won't harass you over copyright issues!

OK I'm stuck in a particularly inconvenient point in the game. I don't know which exam to go to, or where it is.

I tried talking to Rob & Calliope, but I never get an answer, I don't even get to ask. They're always gone (out of sight) when Cuppit finally finishes talking, so I can't get to talk to them about the exams, nor can I follow them.
