I really liked the effect in 'A Second Face': running. Normal click is walking, double click is running. That way you don't have to wait too long to reach your exit but you can reach it in your own pace without the feeling of missing something (which the skipping gives me).
I must say that this semems like the best approach, you're not giving anythin away to the player "oh, there's something you have to do there, but there's nothing of interest there." Of course, this would be a much needed giveaway for people who are succulent at puzzles, like me, but overall, I'd say that this approach is the best compromise.

Excellent. Go ahead!
You're kidding, right? You really expect me to say that to a Swiss bankmanager? You do realise that after military training, all Siwss men (even bankmanagers right down to the lowliest clerks) get to keep their weapons at home, just in case their neutrality-trick doesn't work, gosh didn't this nautrality-policy do wonders for the Netherlands in the late 1930s...

Most jokes aside, this is utmost cool. I'll transfer the money, Snarky, asap or rather: as soon as I get a more positie bankbalance on my checking-account, having paid off my motorcycle-tuition put my balance a little bit into the red - Oh great, I haven't mounted my own motorbike yet and I'm already red-lining.

Okay all,

there The sun has shone on my good fortunes recently, it looks like I'll be with a job/an income after all, in spite of me having been made redundant in one place. So if at all still possible, I'd like to make my reservation for one of the reemaining places (as mentioned in the thread's title). I do not want to miss this opportunity of hanging outwith all you guys n gals again, in what must be God's very own Tuscan villa - it looks divine enough for that! Vatican eat your heart out.

So put me in as a - regrettably delayed - definite. As soon as I have confirmation of my placement in one of the last few spots, then I'll pay up. - I'll solve the empty checking-account issue with the help of my secret Swiss savingsaccount - just mention the words nazi-gold to the bankmanager and I'll be fine in that respect.

The Rumpus Room / Got my bike license back!
Fri 11/06/2010 12:33:39
I've passed my test for the motorcycle so, as soon as I've got that paperwork in, and I've had a new license made (and I've got a new battery in my bike - and I've had it's frame checked for straightness, and maybe fixed), I can go riding again.

Oh, and I never told you about my dad's stroke, did I? A few months back, he had it, and was in a pretty bad state for a while, but he's pretty much back to his old self again (warts and all - I wouldn't have minded if those - figurative - warts would have stayed away, in fact I'd've preffered it) so now - since the change in his health-state -he's had to take a test to show he's able to drive a car again (otherwise he'd be uninsured).
The weird thing about yesterday (when I had the test) was, that my dad has had the same test except for his car-license. He had a test by the same examiner, one hour before I had mine, so we ran into him when he was just leaving, and I arrived for my test. I was glad to hear that he'd passed, since if he'd have ######ed up, the examiner might be in a bad mood and since we obviously have the same familyname, that would make my test start of under a bad moon. And I definitely made some mistakes even right at the start - not grave ones, but still stupid ones that could've cost me but luckily I'd shown enough good to compensate. The test lasted half an hour which included waiting for a funeral procession - it would be in bad taste to call that lucky, wouldn't it?

So, now all I've got to do in the meantim si get a new battery for this bike and have it's frame check for structural soundness, and with any luck I might ride my bike to Italy this year (I'm looking forward to that), not only mitten up with the crew again - if only for a few days. And basically, I feel a little more whole again, more like the full self I used to be, now there's one more restriction lifted.

I'm happy! ;D

Yes,
Spoiler
I've lied/lain in the mud, then went to the pub with Ford, at first I thought: "OK, let's folloq the book and keep drinking" but I had to revert to an autosave after just 2 drinks.
So I went out shortly after 2 drinks, back to the house (which had been demlished by now). Ford went with me, then I stood by my newly demolished house, mr Prosser was of no use in proceeding with the game - no talking of any uesful kind, no actions possible - And after a while Ford walked out because he didn't want to stand by waiting. Then the game's over because the planet got demolished with me on it, always bad for your health, that. So now I'm stuck at my newly demolished house with nowhere to go...

I'm stuck. Not for long though, 'cause the planet gets demolished anyway, before I can get off.
Spoiler
I got out of the pub, walked to my freshly demolished house, just stood there for a while with nothing to do (and nowhere to go, except up - but Arthur can't do that by himself, now, can't he?) and then Ford walks off muttering about not wanting to wait around while the earth gets blown up and game's over. But I can't find anything to do.

Also,
Spoiler
I couldn't order the peanuts in the pub. Which I would have needed, according to the book.

On the upside, I have several towels, and I know where they are: in the closet in my bedroom. (speaking as DutchMarco, not Hugo Veld (Arthur Dent's name in the Dutch translation)

He looks like he had trouble getttting out of bed this morning. Rsise the head a bit, make him stand up like a guy who's proud to be wearing a full-face mask, and a big piece of shooting iron. OK, maybe nopt that proud (queue stereotypes of hillbillies with guns), but more proud than this sloudching character, make his sergeant be proud of him (after a therapeutic - to said sergeant at least - yelling to).

If I may provide just a tiny bit of C&C: the video goes too fast for easy reading of the text. In the beginnign it's fine, but later on it moves just too fast, the text disappears before I've read it all.
Now, let me conclude by saying that this is faulous so far! (no "I think it is fabulous.." it just plain is.

This might come in useful for you gentlepeeps:
http://learnitalian.elanguageschool.net/

And I've learnt somethings essential from the free language-course (appetiser) offered by Nokia for owners of their phones:

Leie capisce l'Inglese?
Do you understand English?

Io capisco un po l'Italiano.
I understand Italian a little bit.

These might come in handy in your travels in Italy. (maybe rephrase that last one to Io no capisco.) I think it might be very useful to recognize these phrases (maybe even pronounce them!) When dealing with the authorities (hopefully that won't happen, but as Eoin Colfer stated in H2G2 6/3 wrt simple hand gestures: One being's "This pasta is fantastico" is another's "Your mama plays it hot and loose with sailors". (iirc number 2 or 3 in the intergalactic poll on causes of warfare) Now translate that last sentence to Italian and you're ready to go on holiday.

So I'm hoping to be able to show up for a short time there myself too - not attending the full Mittens, but making a short (time-wise) trip there by motorcycle (that should be a great trip, through either Belgium/France or GermanyAustria and Italy, and I have my reasons to look forward to that - like never having ridden my bike on long trips across Eureop before, and being slightly tired of the flatness of this country, and some other stuff too.
So I now depend on some technical issues to see if I can get my motorbike-license in order again on time (I hope to achieve that before May) so presuming that works out OK, I'll need some place (pref. nearby) to stay for one night or maybe 2. Anyone has any suggestions? (you could also suggest 'get off your lazy #### and look for yourself, but you can't blame me for asking, now can you?)
Darn, I do wish everyone all the best, it's a very nice looking venue and I'm sure you'll all enjoy it, hence teh darn: I wish I could come.
Darn, I asked too soon, I guess, it's on the site itself:

:D

I remember getting this joke over ten years ago!

Still somewhat funny, though.
Ah, but did you post it here ten years ago? If you had, I wouldn't have noticed since I've only been on this forum for a few years. (So how long has it been around?) I only read it for the first time today on the apneaforum (not that I suffer from sleep apnea myself, but I'm a bit of an insomniac, so I`ve taken to hanging around there. There was a thread with real funny jokest there, it's where I found it. Apparently that thread was started in 2006 and no-one has seen firt to close or delete it yet. So chances are that this joke has been posted tghere some years ago already. Glad that it's generally liked by most posters here. Though I agree with Snarky, it is a bit of a stupid, rvrn insulting  mangling of other people's manner of speech. BTW I don't know that many instances of Germans making fun of the English way of speaking German. There might be some, but I'm not up to schnellheid with German popular culture.

European Commission has just announced an agreement whereby English will be the official language of the European Union rather than German, which was the other possibility.

As part of the negotiations, the British Government conceded that English spelling had some room for improvement and has accepted a 5- year phase-in plan that would become known as "Euro-English".

In the first year, "s" will replace the soft "c". Sertainly, this will make the sivil servants jump with joy.

The hard "c" will be dropped in favour of "k". This should klear up konfusion, and keyboards kan have one less letter.

There will be growing publik enthusiasm in the sekond year when the troublesome "ph" will be replaced with "f". This will make words like fotograf 20% shorter.

In the 3rd year, publik akseptanse of the new spelling kan be expekted to reach the stage where more komplikated changes are possible.

Governments will enkourage the removal of double letters which have always ben a deterent to akurate speling.

Also, al wil agre that the horibl mes of the silent "e" in the languag is disgrasful and it should go away.

By the 4th yer people wil be reseptiv to steps such as replasing "th" with "z" and "w"with "v".

During ze fifz yer, ze unesesary "o" kan be dropd from vords kontaining "ou" and after ziz fifz yer, ve vil hav a reil sensi bl riten styl.

Zer vil be no mor trubl or difikultis and evrivun vil find it ezi tu understand ech oza. Ze drem of a united urop vil finali kum tru.

Und efter ze fifz yer, ve vil al be speking German like zey vunted in ze forst plas.

If zis mad you smil, pleas pas on to oza pepl.aa

Maybe I over reacted in my earlier comment. Maybe not. Some people would find this funny while others would be offended. I just happen to fall under the offended category. Ten years ago I may have not cared or had a different outlook. But I have a precious nephew and niece now. And even my cousin whom I held when she was baby is having her very own child so my perspective on things have changed. I just wondered how I would feel if that happened to be a picture of my own flesh and blood portrayed in such a way. Anyway, apologies if my comment was a bit much.

No need to apologize, I agree with you whole heartedly. If it were up to me pedophiles would be drawn and quartered, but I would settle for having them imprisoned for life.
And with the worda "convicted pedophile tattooed on their foreheads, so that their fellow inmates will recognize them.

BTW if anyone is against life sentencing for pedophiles, I'd like to propose an alternative: using 2 bricks to..., well you get the idea. (right? or must I make an animated drawing for ya?) ]oo[

What's still sick is that someone got this girl to pose in this position and then took a photogrraph of it...

I agree that the horizonline is too straight,

and (layout-comment) I doubt that there's enough space for the character to be in (unless it can stroll off of the path into the field, to me it seems that this kind of room is pretty useless, it's just a place the sprite can walk through and not do anything useful.

Oh, and the growth on the tree seems very one-sided (I'd put some detail on the bottom too although, since there's no sun there, you wouldn't expect too much there - it just sseems tooe empty now).

Aside from that it looks good to me (but: Making a sprite that will fit in with this very texturedbackground would make it veryhard to animate also it would look messy / blend in too much/stand out too much - I think you'll make life hard on yourself if you'll stick to this style.

I think the perspective commment means that the path is too diagonal, it should be flat on the ground, and now it looks as if it isn't.

Hey, thanks!

I also forgot to mention that if anyone can do impressions of any red dwarf characters they are welcome to do voice acting :P I can usually do a good Kryten voice but it's just not sounding right when I record it :(
You mean, if you listen to the recording, you hear it the way everyone else hears it, which is not the way you want to believe it does. ;)

BTW great idea for a game, I wonder what the story will be, and the puzzles too of course.
Good luck with it!
May the smeg be with you!

Regarding the Indy 3 riddle:
Spoiler
did you make sure that you stand in the right room with the window in the grail diary?
[close]

Yes, the window looks just like the one in the diary. Don't just take my word on it, Indy say so himself. And if anyone's trustworthy, it's him, just because eh disguises himself as Harrison Ford in public - to disguise his identity as the wold`'s greatest archaeologist, doesn't mean he lies when on the job. (no, not that kind of job! you pervert.)

Now, to the FoA problem.

Okay, I didn't see it says "soon", so it's sunset instead of night. Sorry.

I hope this'll help.

I'll look into that, might work. Thanks!

Is this the spindle in front of the bronze gate in the airlock? If so, the combination would be:

Sunstone: rising sun at the horns; Moonstone: New moon at sunset; Worldstone: night (Sunstone, No sun) at west sea.

So, basically, the world stone's not aligned right.
Thanks, but I'm affraid that didn't work:

This is where I am/where Indy's at:

And this is with the stones alignerd according to your description: (I've edited some csreenshots together to make it clearer how the stones are aligned)

No,, I must say that Indy3 also hs me stuck (perhaps due to some ScummVM-bug (or Lucsaarts-bug), hitherto not encuntered because I've never had problems not getting through these puzzles. In Indy3 I have to break floor tiles in the library to get underground. Now, I have to use the numbers on the carving, which are V III IX, The grail diary says: "If ye would enter, follow the first on the left.", which would be V, but no luck for me: I saved my game and tried all tiles, none was the right one.

I know I've stated(optimistically) that I'd (try to)  organize this Mittens, but with my current employment outlook I don't think it'd be a good idea if I were to attend at all  :'(  :'(, but if it were to be held here in NL, then I'd love to drop by for a day or so :)  :)  :).
