The mobile phones of the future will not be notably smaller than those used today. They will, however, feature automated foldable devices such as, in this model, a screen, two loudspeakers and a keyboard.

State-of-the-art digital image enhancement techniques reveal that the keyboard, seen below in an extreme closeup of the original picture, uses the Dvorak keyboard layout.

Note: For those of you who couldn't guess, the lower picture is not an entry.

Right, here's the new tune contest you've all been waiting for!

The goal this week is to write something calm and serene and mysterious and stuff. Saint-Saëns' "Aquarium" from Le carnival des animaux (The carnival of the animals) is a perfect example of what I mean.

Get working!
#423
Yeah, I'm going to. :P

I've had some network troubles the past few days, and I've been stupid enough not to think about the rules. Hopefully sometime today it will be up, given that my network continues to work.

What an honour! Thanks. :)
Good work everyone else, too. ;D

m0ds, I'm a bit too happy with mine to call it real public domain, but if anyone asks nicely and gets a 'yes' (and, of course, puts my name somewhere) it's perfectly alright to use it. But one would have to ask. :P

The new tune contest will start tomorrow, when I decide what rules it should have.

As usual, I forgot completely that I was going to participate until a few hours ago. But now it's done, and I am unusually satisfied with how well it turned out.

The filename is a very lame pun which some of you might understand.

Mine will be done... before the deadline. :P I'm working, I'm working.

And remix0r... Make a tempo text (you should know how to do that, at least! Create/Text/Tempo or ctrl-T (or shift-T? I never remember those)) then right click, and a little thingie showing lots of symbols and texts come up. This is very practical. You should see various notes. Click the one you need, maybe with a dot or something if you like, then make an equals sigh (=) and write out how many of these it should have per minute. That's that.

The way I convert MIDI to audio is basically using CoolEdit (this applies to any recording tool). I set my mixer to record MIDI ("What-U-Hear", which the soundblaster mixer has, works too I guess) and... record it. Usually I edit the MIDI a bit in Cakewalk (use whatever you like here, too) first, especially if it has a trill anywhere in it: Sibelius isn't too bad at doing trills, but they sound horrible written out fully in MIDI. If I record one, I use lots of pitchbend messages instead. (As you'll see in my entry in the last tune contest). I think there are programs made solely for recording MIDI, but I like to know I'm recording exactly what I hear. Plus I'm old-fashioned. ;D

Also, I'd like to tell you how soundfonts work, because they're great, but I'm too tired at the moment. :P

Oh, and I'll actually listen to your entry tomorrow. ;D

What's the deadline? I want some live instruments for this one and my new piano arrives Thursday.

You didn't see me post this.

Post what? This isn't a post.

Dragonrose, I'd like to point out that the first time I saw your previous post, I thought it was a duck. Now, for my picture.

Unlike all my other contributions here, this one I have done without any concern for high quality. I mean, of course, paint, mouse-only, no zoom, no undo high quality. But this one...

So next up: a bird in the hand.

edit: the urls are now actually clickable, yay.

Here's a piano quartet (piano, violin, viola, cello). Whee. I finished it not long after the contest started, and then forgot about it completely. Here's a sketchy mp3 render:

And here's a mid:

If anyone wants the score in a good-looking Sibelius file, tell me and I'll brush it up a bit.
#431
Hardware, that, Geoffkhan? Has it been released as a sample CD or whatever?
#432
Good point, Archangel. I'll upload both.

And loominous... if no one else is interested in that, then... I pity everyone else. :P
#433
Can I have the... oh, I see. :P

Well, mine, incidentally, is coming along. Don't worry.

Edit: By the way, loominous, is a Sibelius file okay for you?
#434
Yes. Give them to me. :P

The piano, however, is... uhm... well. You know.

Anyway, neat. And of course, I'll participate in this one.
#435
Yes, start it again. And let me be in it.
#436
I'm in. Most definitely. Well, tomorrow, when I'm not half asleep.

I had to censor the actual stripper, but she is in a [giant] blue cup.

And I forgot to give you guys the next objective, silly me.
So next: any famous alien, except for the typical long-headed ones. So almost any famous alien. :P

I'd love to contribute but I don't really have the time... So go ahead without me. :P

I'll make sure I have time for the next one though. ;D
