General Discussion / Re: Steam sale!

Haven't seen anyone note anywhere (maybe I missed it) that a two-pack containing Ben There, Dan That & Time, Gentlemen, Please is on sale for $0.50 on Steam currently.

My guess was The Adventures of Mark Twain, The Adventures of Jules Verne, or The Explorigator. I don't think it's any of those. But as an amateur airship aficionado, I'm eager to find out.

I did not even work my way up to 2 before giving up in anger. I missed the original Flappy Bird phenomenon, but when I say I hate you for making this game, Khris, I am only 95% joking.

Good job, everyone! I look forward to the next one, Tabata!

I almost changed this too, but doubted my feeling! I think it's that there's too much empty space between them and our eye is drawn to the middle of that space instead of the logos within it. I think they might look good together (with appropriate padding) on the right side. EDIT: Oh! As it is in the original. Sorry. I made mine by compositing yours and a later edit to take as much logo out of the sky as I could.

Ugh! And one more thing I meant to mention earlier. I don't know if you're open to any suggestions that involve redrawing parts of the picture, but in terms of visual appeal and creating interest, it might work better to have Freja's sword be held more vertically. Right now, it's something you notice, as opposed to something you see right away. That's where the best appeal lies in your image, I think, the mix of, "Hey, that modern-looking guy's got a book. Whoa, she has a sword! What's going on here?"

Here's another go. Her hand is, of course, all crazy and anatomically unsound now:

I'd consider still making the title bigger. Consider what information you want the viewer to see first, to give the most importance to, to prioritize, etc. You probably want them to be intrigued by the image, but to remember the name of the title. Boost that importance with scale.

I've done a quick example using American Typewriter bold and splitting the words across multiple lines. I've also given a little extra room to the Screen 7 logo. Instead of making that a completely separate section at the bottom with a border, I'd consider using a mask or a gradient to slowly fade the main image into black and place your logos against that.

Ugh! Sorry I was responsible for the temporary death of the thread. I totally forgot about it. No guesses on the new one!

D'oh! I always think Blender is a pay program, but it's Poser I'm thinking of! Thanks, selmiak!

With the last competition, Doc_Savage asked us to spotlight a nation with a tune, using the instruments of that country to represent them in song. As we began the Winter Olympics this week, I thought how appropriate that was as a theme.

To continue celebrating the Olympics, instead of focusing on the countries this time, I'd like you to compose a tune to represent a particular Winter Olympic event. For some, this might be easy, as they already use songs as part of the form of the competition -- figure skating, for instance. For others, this might prove a greater challenge -- what is the best way to represent skeleton, curling, or halfpipe through music?

Entries are due Tuesday, February 25! Make sure to identify which event for which you've composed your tune!

Anyone know of a free program for OS that will (1) allow me to view and rotate .obj files and (2) apply varied lighting circumstances to them? The latter doesn't need to be incredibly complex, but I'd like to control intensity and angle at least.

Rendering doesn't need to be all that advanced, either. I use 3D models as reference, not as finals.

Ahhh! Daniel Eakins read my mind and stole my entry! And did a much better job than I would have. That's fantastic.

I'm gobsmacked. I thought there was no way I was winning this one against Drew! I will have a new contest up ASAP, and hopefully you two will enter that one as well!

Well, hey, everybody, look who it is: Little Chefâ,,¢, proud maker of Little Chefâ,,¢ Pies, Pastries, and Papadums! Shove it in your face!

This is a complicated sentence, but the storyworld in which the still-slowly-in-progress-among-some-others game from which my avatar comes features some tributes to Wodehouse characters (though they won't appear in the game).

I will strive to make a background!

(I notice that Owl Cave is listed as Own Cave -- not sure if us plebeians are allowed to edit the page, but thought I'd draw attention to the typo.)

Snarky, have you at some point contemplated making all of those games? Because I'd seriously be excited to play all of them except Buffy.
