Having heard similar complaints about the first sprite I shared here, I hesitate to say, but I feel like they have an extra bounce in between steps, and roll their shoulders a bit too much. It makes them look a little Tony Manero.

Still, these are minor concerns compared to the amount of work this will likely save you. I've used this sort of trick for side views, but haven't pulled it off as well as you for front views yet.

Update your video card drivers. I had similar issues and that fixed them.

Quote from: Snarky on Sun 18/08/2013 09:36:07(If you don't know Wodehouse, you can think of the Jeeves & Wooster books as a parody of Downton Abbey... though actually it's the other way around; the series is an attempt to play Wodehouse's spoof of that world straight.)

I've been trying to sell Downton fans on Wodehouse (my all-time favorite 'comfort' read) using this exact argument. The recent Blandings television series provides a good transition.

Also, I would have been certain that starting with Blood Meridian was a surefire way to kill a book club dead as soon as it started, but I'm glad to see so many here have excellent taste in books!

The Wonder Showzen folks have made a career out of this kind of stuff.

Please stop shadowface.

I notice and appreciate the lack of a comma there.

Quote from: shadowface on Wed 14/08/2013 02:54:20But see1 I try to use proper spelling,2 and the moderators complain about my posts3. Most of the time, and they4 don't explain what is wrong with them. How can5 I know what is wrong with my posts6 if people don't want to explain what is wrong?

1. Omit unnecessary conversational words for clarity.
2. Use a comma before "and" when an independent clause follows.
3. "Most of the time" implies posts, plural.
4. Rambling sentence. Separate the third independent clause into its own sentence.
5. Tense mismatch. Either "would I have known what was" and "people didn't," or "can I know" and "people don't."
6. See 3.

Any guidelines on style? Would the portraits be static?

Jean Pierre Melville is the man. I recommend every film he's ever been a part of. Bob Le Flambeur is my favorite.

No guess, but that exact burned ride is in an amusement park that used to be near me (I moved, it didn't burn).

Only Angels Have Wings was the inspiration for one of my favorite TV shows, Tales of the Gold Monkey. For some reason I didn't recognize it until you posted that last shot. And Howard Hawks loved cowboys so much, he stuck them in almost every movie he did. Much like John Carpenter, a big fan of Hawks, tends to do.

I almost cited Carpenter when talking about westerns that weren't westerns! Assault on Precinct 13 is pretty much Rio Bravo. Also, I too am a big fan of Tales of the Gold Monkey, and the show that later paid homage to it, Tale Spin!

You should seek it out, sir. It's an amazing movie, and sets the formula for the remainder of Hawks' career. And, perhaps, in a sense, these guys are cowboys, and this is a bit of a western. But not really.

Quote from: Andail on Wed 31/07/2013 14:15:19I'll just wait with my box art idea.

I was going to send this privately, but I may as well do it publicly -- I didn't mean to offer my pitch as a replacement for yours, or be dismissive, but going back and reading what I wrote, that's what it sounded like. And I also sound like a bit of an ass. I'm sorry for this!

Instead of saying "What I'd like to see more," what I should have said was "What I'd like to see eventually." I didn't wind up participating in the monster jam, because, while I would have enjoyed the communal critique, monsters aren't applicable to the projects on which I'm working, and so any time spent on that would have meant time away from my other stuff. I also would like to see more connection between the workshops and game making. I enjoyed the emphasis on storytelling that grew out of the monster work, but I don't think that was necessarily embedded from the beginning.

My proposal aimed to marry the craft of illustration with other concerns of game creation, and I anticipate the box art workshop would raise similar concerns of "It's not enough to draw a pretty picture, because that picture also needs to effectively represent the people/situation/story/emotion of the game." You're also probably correct that a semester is too long -- I'm currently working on my syllabi for the fall, so I'm in semester / three projects and a final thought mode.

Again, sorry if I came off as a jerk! I'm a big fan of your work, and Samaritan Paradox is top of the list for me as far as my most-anticipated AGS games go. Please don't hate me!

Only Angels Have Wings?

...A movie which is not about cowboys, but about airplane pilots in South America!
