Congratulations on the win, Ghost. Sad you couldn't make a speech. I think you should make one here for posterity.

You're talking to someone who, just this afternoon, I shit you not, watched another of the Medfield College films -- The Absent-Minded Professor.

I'll post a new image after the awards ceremony!

That new Modesty film is bad, really bad.

Sugarland Express?

I was always a little disappointed with Modesty Blaise, especially compared to the high quality of the comic strip. I like Dirk Bogarde though. His best 60s spy film is "Hot Enough For June?" (I'm biased in favor of any movie starring Sylva Koscina though).

My guess: Junior Bonner?

Well, it's hard to do, but I'll keep mum on this one and let someone else have a turn. But it seems we have similar taste in 60s genre films as well. You, me, and Tarantino.

Indeed it is! I know it it best as Return of Ringo, one of the few sequels that I think is better than the original.

That part of Night on Earth always destroys me totally. I weep.

Quote from: Kasander on Wed 20/03/2013 19:57:02stunned to see his Le Havre (great movie BTW) being #2 at Waterstone's

I still don't know what a Waterstone's is, but Le Havre was a beautiful movie. Overlooked. Deserved to be Oscar shortlisted for sure.

Now you're using your noodle!

I love this movie and Aki Kaurismäki's work in general. I don't think he's as popular here in the States. I'm also heartbroken everytime that I remember Matti Pellonpää has passed away.

Here's an image for the next round:

I never knew The Man Who Laughs was by Hugo, otherwise that would have been easy to guess with that obvious Glasgow Grin! Or that there was a TV movie version. The original with Conrad Veidt inspired the creation of the Joker in the Batman comics:

Quote from: Nikolas on Mon 18/03/2013 05:33:20I find it very unfair to the artist to have given (FOR FREE) his art and then disappear without any control on it...

I think you guys might be talking about two different scenarios:

A. Artist quits project, packs up his work, takes it with him. Other members of project have to replace that work.
B. Artists contributes to project, project goes nowhere. Five years pass. Project dead in the water. Artist's work vanishes into the aether.

Both can be covered by up-front licensing that includes reversion of rights pending lack of publication.

Quote from: bicilottiThat's an interesting scenario. Let's say you drew art for a project (freeware project) and the project leader decided to:
    1. go commercial (without giving you a dime) (or)
    2. twist the project plot to something you find morally unacceptable (KKK propaganda)

The first can be covered from the start. Documentation should define the nature of the project and the potential for profits ("I, Eric, agree to contribute thirteen backgrounds to the freeware game, Etc."). If and when the for-profit state changes, those licenses/contracts have to be rewritten and renegotiated. As to the second, this scenario actually happens quite often in creative industries, and if you've done contract work, you've done contract work. You can ask to have your name removed, and if you have a union to back you, they can force the removal of your name.

Quote from: loominous on Mon 18/03/2013 11:58:46I'm taking the lack of responses regarding a game setting/world/script activity as an indication that there's less on the writing side.

I'm interested in doing every kind of workshop that I can, especially if they're stretched over longer periods. I can never do the blitzes anymore, because I don't have enough time to pull together in one week to do anything, but a one- or two-month course would be perfect for me.

I have a lot of thoughts about writing and worldbuilding that I'd like to workshop with folks!

You always have the option to pull an Alan Smithee if you're ashamed of or unhappy with the final work.
