I think the issue must have been with IndieGogo then. When I submitted, it said, "Campaign owner may not have set up Paypal correctly." Probably a server error or something. I resubmitted today. You should now have my (meager) donation!

I too ran Resonance fine on Windows 7. I can't remember whether or not this was the case, but was there an installer with Resonance? Perhaps you have to run that as an administrator instead of/in addition to the game itself?

I think quite a bit of how to approach a game depends on your personality and your creative processes. I've mentioned quite a few times here how easily my attention wanders, and that makes it hard for me to finish projects. I'm making more progress on my current game than any other project, simply because of the wealth of materials I have to work on. If I get bored making sprites, I write dialog. If I get bogged down coding, I draw a background. If I get annoyed by GUIs, I sit down with my guitar and compose music.

Once I realized I could break the big project down into smaller ones that I could bounce around to complete according to my mercurial whims, I found myself working much more often, and making a much better product.

I will agree with Chicky above that starting small is good, though. I completed one full room with a puzzle, two characters, some animations, some dialog, and some music, to sort of prove to myself that it could be done (no voiceover yet, though), before moving on. This jibes with InCreator's assertion above as well that it's important to have something playable for yourself, so that it feels as though you are making a game.

In the Room Properties pane, set 'ShowPlayerCharacter' to False. You might want to go back through the manual and perhaps Densming's tutorial videos. They cover a lot of the basic stuff like this.

If all else fails, I find that Google yields better results than the forum's in-house search engine. Try it like this.

EDIT: In re-reading your original (slightly unclear) question, you may actually be asking about your visible player character talking to an invisible non-player character. I'm not sure about the best practices for that scenario, but perhaps this clarification will lead someone else to supply them for you.

That's great. I love Tintin, and all of the ligne claire style artists (I also like Tintin's spiritual brother, Freddy Lombard by Yves Chaland).

I've just looked over the Skumring website, and am excited to follow the progress of this one.

My advice is that if you can't talk her out of it, to at least steer your mom away from MLMs involving health food. These are worse, because you don't only have to talk about it / get the hard sell to participate all the time, but you also get served with the product at dinner.

I had a family member who was involved with one, and if anyone ever serves me acai berry juice again, I will likely involuntarily punch them in the face. Be forewarned.

That looks pretty fantastic! A high-stakes thriller with a Hergé style. Is Chutney a detective? I'll definitely be playing this one.

I am in like the proverbial Flynn on this one. It combines two of my great passions -- early aviation and adventure games! Best of luck to you as you make progress!

My disappeared message encouraged you to make formal plans to video and distribute AdvX2012 panels for those of use who won't be able to attend (but donated partially because of the potential for videos).

You're the second person this week to mention Son of the Mask, and so I've been Baader-Meinhof'd again.

If you liked the movie version of The Road, you should read the book by Cormac McCarthy. And if you want truly "f****d up," read his Blood Meridian.

Other recent standouts include Dogtooth, and Taxidermia, which was recently brought up in the guess-the-screenshot thread. You might want to check those out if you haven't seen them.

Gore without some kind of psychological or emotional element is pointless to me, no different than seeing Wyle E. Coyote flattened by a rock. I am more haunted, and for much longer, by films that evoke feelings of despair, emotional pain, and misery. For instance, Come and See (1985) is a much more "f****d up" movie than anything that Eli Roth could possibly imagine.

Ilyich: It's amazing how tight your initial sketch is, and how much is translated in the final form. Are you setting your color layer to Multiply over your "pencils"?

BishyT: That's a pretty good tutorial. That and the one that Ilyich posted earlier in the thread will give me a good start on learning to use Sketch-Up properly.

Anian: That page is from the Famous Artist Cartoon Course module on perspective. The whole module can be found here, and the whole course can be found here. There was another Famous Artist Course for fine arts that had some amazing resources as well, but I can't remember if there was one on perspective. The one on drawing folds and drapery was indispensable though.

I unfortunately have no time to finish now that the semester has started and never got beyond a paper sketch. Plus, it's hard to get motivated knowing that Daniel's background would destroy mine in competition!

I'd say what you're describing is a ghost writer, which is any situation where work was contributed by an uncredited author. Sometimes they work from outlines that the author provides. Sometimes, they can be brought in for specific elements, like polishing a draft, or writing descriptions of place that the author might then go back and adjust stylistically. Sometimes -- I don't know about Martin, but certainly Tom Clancy and most of the major mystery writers -- a ghost writer will write the whole damn book with little input from the author, but publish under the author's name to take advantage of the brand. Editors for major authors also do a lot more behind the scenes than the public gives them credit for.

Sort of related to the previous question...I'm getting the final component of a new PC tomorrow. What are the essential programs for you guys? Free, paid, shareware (does that phrase even still mean anything?), whatever. What keeps you productive and happy? What would you load on a new computer?

Yeah, please don't let me besmirch Nightfable's name! That's not my intent!

My intent is to show how easy it is for us folks without access to the data to jump to conclusions.

AnasAbdin's lack of maturity and professional temperament betray his assertion that he is a university professor.

Not that I really have a dog in the fight, but as a former adjunct professor, and hopefully soon a tenure track professor, I have to say from experience that, unfortunately, "maturity" and "professional temperament" aren't always defining traits for folks in my profession. I've had my fair share of experience with some Ph.D.-holding loonies...and I don't mean the Canadian coin.

And as the person who mentioned witch hunts for the first time, I want to be clear that I never thought the moderators were "witch hunting," but that identifying the situation and not the perpetrator always leads to speculation by the peanut gallery. As I insinuated before, based on Calin's clues, my initial guess was Nightfable, before remembering how much press that Mass Effect fangame got outside of this site. Now, I'm sure there are others who have looked through AnasAbdin's other threads trying to pick out users who might or might not be real. We should all try to suppress this urge is what I'm saying. But that's easier said than done.
