I miss the old searching of YABB which presented complete posts as the results. This one just returns partial quotes of the posts with the search terms in it which is just annoying.

Not that it's in any way easy to fix, nor do I expect you to, I just wanted to gripe.

General Discussion / Re: Emergency numbers
Thu 24/06/2004 14:18:37
In Norway:

110 - Fire
112 - Police
113 - Medical Emergencies

I've always wondered what 111 is.

Oh, and my phone book says 1412 is the emergency number for text telephone users, how handy (not meant as a joke, in case any Germans are reading this).

You might want to check out the "The 400 Rules of Game Design" by Noah Fallstein, a few other former LEC employees and other random people. They're only up to maybe a 100 or so so far and annoyingly Noah hasn't put them all up on his website yet so you'll have to either buy old issues of game developer magazine or mail him if you want them.

They only had to change two of the insults which the translators refused to translate because they were too insulting. One involving parents and one involving farmers if I recall correctly. It's mentioned in one of the gamedev magazines and on mixnmojo if you're curious. As for the shish kebab I assume they just replaced it with another fast food.

They totally exist, and I totally understand nothing when I play them.

That's an FM-Towns emulator running a MI2 iso. You might be able to aquire the iso through less than legal means, the emulator should be easy to get hold of through google. Can't remember the url I'm afraid.

I recommend ScummVM for LEC games, but dosbox is nice for the rest.

Grim Fandango Dating Simulation!!!11

Crap reference image from underdogs. I just couldn't bring myself to install a dating simulation game to get a screenshot.

It's closer to copyright infringement than stealing since no physical copy is stolen. Either way, discussing where to get hold of warez should not take place on these forums.

I second what DGMacphee said. I don't think the forums have changed that much or anything. I don't know if I'm just growing out of it or just temporarily not interested in anything computer related. Maybe it's the summer...

I don't think you quite got the subtle message DG was conveying with his post.
I second what DG meant.

I never watched the movie and am not going to, and I don't care about what it's about.

But similar catastropic disaster happened 30+ years ago already, read Incredible Tide!

Or watch Future Boy Conan.

I didn't know that was originally a book. Has it been translated to English? Who was the author?
I know I'm not Goldmund, but here you go anyway - http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0156027607/qid=1072108934/sr=2-1/ref=sr_2_1/002-5454999-6552801

QuoteLem writes in Polish. His most important books have never appeared in English. Even his best-known novel, Solaris, is available in US bookstores only as an English translation of a French abridgement of the Polish original.

I can't find any reference to this together with the name of the authors, but considering Wired's reputation and the fact that the translation you linked to is from 1970 or so and is the only English version I can find it sounds unlikely that the Wired author didn't notice it.

Here's the google search I used to dig up links about this if anyone wants to prove I'm wrong. If I am, please do.

I first found out about the name and history behind the Philosopher's Stone from a comic I read when I was 12 or so. Had it been called the Sorceror's Stone in the comic I would still be clueless about what the Philosopher's Stone was. I can understand the logic behind changing it, but I can't see why they couldn't keep the original term and educate the readers.

The game is quite excellent Cerebrit. I haven't come very far yet but what I've played has been of a very professional quality.

I took the liberty to announce it over at Adventure Gamers. Hope you don't mind.

The exact thread is here:

Critics' Lounge / Re: Left-handed drawing

I'd give my right arm to be ambidextrous.

I like the sketches so far Jayel. I've tried to draw using "squiggly" lines before but it always end up looking forced. Drawing with the left hand is out of the question for me though, I can barely eat an apple using it.

What are you going to do with this style, if you don't mind me asking?

Can't be much worse than the Samuel L. Jackson movie.

I'd like to see a blaxplotation version of Superman called Superfly.
