The default game template, starring Matthew McConaughey as Roger.

Without adverbs we wouldn't have Tom Swifty puns, and we'd all be worse off for it.

But yeah, adverb diseases where people try to write anything but "said" is so annoying to read, Esseb said.

I agree with Snarky, the (later, pared down) SCUMM Bar is the best adventure game interface, but, and this is a big but, only in a game with good puzzles.

Any time you're forced to try everything with everything you've now got about 9 verbs to try on everything. Hopefully this will discourage you from the brute force attempts and encourage you to think things through, but if the puzzles up to this point have been bad enough that the best course of action is to just power through and try everything on everything the interface quickly becomes a drag.

Not naming any names... (Simon the Sorcerer)

Edit: Like Snarky, I learned the shortcuts and the right click trick. Maybe I'd find it worse if I didn't?

Someone more clever than I has added a classic point and click interface to Grim Fandango using the ResidualVM engine.

Video preview here. Anyone here tried this yet?

I suppose the next step now is for someone to add keyboard control to Full Throttle.

Ah, clearly too obscure. Crimson Wizard or Ilyich, have at it.

One more day, then I'll let one of the USSRians guess this.

Nope.

It's from the USSR. I expect anyone but Crimson Wizard will need to google for this one.

Crimson Wizard: Really? I figured it'd be less obscure but still fairly unknown even in the (former) country it was made.

miguel: Nope.

Ok, this is a difficult one, so if anyone gets it without hints I'll be very impressed:

Quinta da Foz has a rocking horse, but I went with Sintra Manor House also.

Congrats Dirk and Christina!

Edit: All the photos of the swimming pool and garden are taken from inside. Is it really the neighbour's? Suspicious!

Go for working Internet please. Air conditioning sounds like a necessity, but then I think anything more than 25C is too warm.

Google Maps satellite view: http://goo.gl/maps/7wsrk

Looks like there's an oddly shaped garden in the front of the house that's not in any of the pictures on www.ownersdirect.co.uk/portugal/P15306.htm.

Edit: Gotta love a rental house with that many CRT screens.

450,828m? I never knew the Red Sea was that wide.

General Discussion / Re: The Hobbit II

I don't care about the 3d (I don't even notice after the first few minutes), and The Hobbitses have followed the LOTR pattern of the first 30 minutes set in the shire being the only bit I really enjoyed, but I'm really loving the HFR and wish all movies would adopt this.

I can actually look at stuff when the camera is panning horizontally! It's like magic.

That's up to the game or app, but practically none do. They could do in Broken Age, but then they'd have to educate the players about the ability to do so.

The simplest solution seemed to be to ditch using right clicking for anything useful in the PC version also. Currently it opens the inventory menu, which can be opened by moving the mouse to the bottom left of the screen anyway.

I'm not saying they should've added a right click for look, it does makes sense to target the tablet market, but it leads to me opening the inventory whenever I want to hear the main character describe what a door is.

I'm really missing a way to look at things. This game made me realize the way I play all adventure games is I enter a room then look at every single interactive object before doing anything there. There's not even a hover text to tell me what anything is.

I guess losing that ability is the tablet market's fault.

Other than that, I'm really liking this so far. And the occasional graphical glitches in this beta are charmingly AGS like. The main character passing straight through some objects when moving in the z direction for instance.

A pool is probably better than walking distance to the beach.

We can always commute a shortish distance to the closest beach one day or two, but lounging in/around a pool all week is a tradition by this point.
