Thanks for the help.

This is actually a problem in "A Night to Remember" a game that I released about a month ago.  When players are walking up the stairs that are at an angle sometimes the player will get stuck while walking down the stairs.
I looked at the walkable areas and they aren't small and it is completely filled.

Does anybody have any idea why this would happen?

For my first game I would write every so often but that got me finished very.. very slowly.  I've started going to Starbucks and writing for several hours at a time.

But to answer the question I get a full script finished before I even start sketching out rooms.  Although, I do have a general idea whats in them.  And then I use programming art until I can get the actual art.  At least that's how I'm working now.  On my first game, I was doing everything at once and several times had to scrap art and it doesn't make an artist happy if you scrap their hard work because of your poor planning.

So that's how I would recommend doing it but everybody has their own style.  Just make sure you are sure what you want from other people before you ask for it.

Or seven.
Quote from: Gen. 7:2-3, King James Ver.
"Of every clean beast thou shalt take to thee by sevens, the male and his female: and of beasts that are not clean by two, the male and his female. Of fowls also of the air by sevens, the male and the female; to keep seed alive upon the face of all the earth."

Or maybe fourteen.
Quote from: Gen. 7:2-3, English Standard Ver.
"Take with you seven pairs of all clean animals, the male and his mate, and a pair of the animals that are not clean, the male and his mate, and seven pairs of the birds of the heavens also, male and female, to keep their offspring alive on the face of all the earth."

As far as the seven pairs or just seven of every clean animal that's just a translation issue.  But God commanded first that he bring two of every kind so that the earth could be repopulated. Then later, god commanded that he bring extra of every clean animal.  There could be several reasons for this.

1) The 'clean' animals were ones that were fit to be offered as sacrifices to god not unclean animals and since Noah was in the ark for more than one hundred and fifty days.  So Noah would need animals to offer to god as a sacrifice during this time considering that he was a holy man in comparison to the people of his time and surely he gave offerings.

2) 'Clean' animals were also able to be used for food as opposed to the unclean animals.  So it seems to me that the extra clean animals were taken because they were supposed to be used at various times during the time on the ship. As it says in the latter half of the verse "to keep their offspring alive on the face of all the earth"  so for the unclean animals two was enough because they were not meant to be killed for any reason but the clean animals have reason to be killed for offerings and possibly for food.

1)

That, however, points strongly to the evolutionary side, away from creation. (God specifically created a male and female version, so why give the man useless nipples? He didn't give the woman a useless penis.)

There are plenty of things that differ between male and female but there are also things that are uselessly similar maybe simply for the purpose that it would be clear that they are almost the same.  The only differences that really matter between male and female are that females are made to be able to take care of children.

Well, if all species were created at the same time, we should find fossils of all of them, not just those who died millions of years ago according to the scientific view.

Have there been any very small fossils found?  Or is it mainly large fossils? I am sorry I don't know much about this field.

Yeah, I am definitely going to be using a paid host, since it would be hard not to go above the bandwidth allowed by free hosts if people are downloading from my site, especially on any month that I would release a game.
#166
That definitely makes sense.  I'm working on getting a website as well as some space to host the game so I shouldn't be running into this problem for to much longer.  Thanks for the responses though.

General Discussion / Download link changing
Thu 20/08/2009 23:43:24
So for the last about month the download for my game has been working fine but yesterday instead of clicking on it making it download it takes you to mediafire's homepage and no way to download the game.  I fixed it but I don't want to have to go and check it every single day to make sure people can still download it.

Any idea why this would happen?

My game got rated in a week time, don't push the people working on playing games and rating them too hard!!

I'm really not trying to come off as impatient.  I was only curious how it worked.  I would be lying if I wasn't wondering what rating they will give my game but in the end it's not something that is driving me crazy.

Sorry if I sounded impatient I am not trying to rush anyone on the AGS panel.

Sorry if I came off as a bit harsh, that's just how I felt when I played the game. Please keep my points in mind for the sequel, and any other games you intend to make in future.
The only thing I disagree with from what you said is the spelling mistakes, I am pretty sure I got almost all of them, I checked through the script twice.

Any feedback is always appreciated, especially the negative kind, and I agree with almost everything you said.  While I was making the game I was totally satisfied with the quality and even when I released it but looking back there are a lot of things I want to improve. I may go back in the future and re release it but for now I'm focusing on my next game.  So trust me when I say the next game will be much better.

Oh, and did you know you got featured by the IndieGames weblog a while ago?

Yeah, I saw that I wasn't expecting anything like that from my first game.

For the one on the table use an object with one image.  For the inventory item use another image.  It's that simple

You weren't asked to choose a game length?

I didn't get that option either when uploading the game I think that's only there when you vote.

Devil's shroud isn't the only one without a rating there are plenty there from June and some from May without a rating.  I think that there is a good reason for the panel to wait to give a rating simply because if the game gets two cups or one then a lot less people will download it and the author won't get as much feedback for improvement.

But my game for instance has gotten 1057 downloads and still has no AGS panel rating.

When does a game get moved into the correct category? Is it when it gets rated? Because:

When the game author submits their game here, they can choose which category to put it in, but if you think the game is out of place please say so here.
I certainly didn't get that option ???

I don't know it might be determined by votes, it could also be determined by the AGS panel as well but it seems more likely that user votes decide which category it goes into.

Before I say anything else let me make clear that I am not being impatient I am just curious.  I was wondering how long it takes for the AGS rating panel to rate games or what system they use.  I saw the game Heed uploaded by Ben304 on July 15th and it got a rating before the end of the month if I remember correctly Whereas The Devil's Shroud part I came out on the 24th of January and yet has no rating.  My guess is they wait for a certain number of downloads or something.  Can anyone else shed some light on this?

-Thanks!

I would suggest setting a variable, and then changing the variable to a new number once you have talked to the man. Then just have it check the variable for what it should display.
#175
You have to draw each of the frames for animations and each sprite for anything else.  You don't necessarily have to draw everything from scratch for instance you can edit previous sprites for making new ones but there is no simple shortcut.
#176
You have to look at it first.

General Discussion / Changing username

Is there a way to change your username here? I mean other than creating a new username.
