Not exactly a landslide, but he won.

Maybe the rest of the world have respect for us again.

You can notify their renter's union, or even mail the city. If the police are involved (which I'm sure they are), they could probably give your friend some insight as to what to do.

LGM made a short (20 minute-ish) "psychedelic" video for an acid rock show for a friend's band. We looked for this kind of stuff before but could never find anything. He ended up mixing together a bunch of royalty free video clips from old movies and military films.

I bought an M-Audio Axiom a few years ago, but returned it because I couldn't figure out how to use the damn thing. Now I'm more experienced with samples, and I kind of regret not keeping it. Feels comfy, got a nice smooth key movement. USB interface, but if you had a midi interface you can plug it into that too.

I'm not sure I would recommend it because I've only used this one, but it's a place to start from.

+1 on WordPress

LGM just finished up his WordPress portfolio. It's basically the same thing you're after.

Critics' Lounge / Re: Some lyrics

Interesting flow. I love reading/listening to lyrics, but it's so hard to place lyrics without a melody. It's poetry until you hear it in context of the song, then it becomes lyrical. A quick recording would really help with critiquing. This is the Critics Lounge after all. :)

My roommate's girlfriend just had surgery on her nose for a similar problem. She had trouble breathing because her nasal passages were too small. She couldn't even blow her nose to clean her nose out when she was ill. I'd go with the nasal decongestant for the time being, but it could be something that needs some more firepower.

You could always draw the edges of your scene larger then crop them to your ratio after after you've scanned them in. What's wrong with scaling?

I just think if you're going to start this really big project back up you should think about the professional aspects. I think, like Lay said, that we have really come past this style GUI. If you're doing an homage to Sierra or Lucas Arts all of those interaction buttons would be great.

I guess it also depends on if you're doing a highly interactive game or a more movie like story based game. Look at these games where there is so much "video like" gameplay, where you've got to hit the B button really quickly or you die or something. It's not something that's really respectable, but I think the industry can't combine movie like gameplay and extreme interactivity.

I agree with Layabout. But I can understand why some people want to stick to a more classical format.

Your new layout is much better. The stroke on the sliders could be a little thinner. There are still some continuity issues between the boot, eye, mouth, and bag. Gun is much more obvious.

Text looks better. The chapter text look out of place still. Maybe it's to tall?

General Discussion / Re: Anyone play guitar?

I moment of thread hijacking...
I've been thinking of learning how to play the acoustic guitar.  But I don't really want to pay for guitar lessons.  Anyone know the best way to learn how to play without pay? lol

Also I don't have a guitar and I don't even know the type of guitar I should look at if I were to even consider this.

Buy a cheap second hand acoustic guitar to try it out. Electrics are nice and in some cases easier, but every guitar player should start on an acoustic.

As far as lessons go, I'm self taught and if you're really into learning, it's easy to pick up guitar on your own. I took about 3 basic lessons, learning a few basic chords. I'd ask a friend to show you some chords, then just start learning to play every song you know. Then when a song is too hard, come back to it.

R4L, Greg is right about the speed thing. You shouldn't play any faster than you can play with accuracy. I do find, though, that if a song is to hard to play at that fast speed, turn the speed up a little and try playing at a much faster speed for 30 minutes, then go back to the slower speed. Playing at a faster speed can force you to learn some movements.

And time. Time spent playing is the only way to get better. Scales are great, but just playing those same riffs over and over again will make it easier for you to learn other songs.

Font looks good, but the layered chapter/by the sword thing looks misplaced and unfinished.

The buttons are clear, except for the gun. Gun doesn't look enough like a gun. Either needs to be more hand gun like or lasery. Eye looks a little to dilated IMO.

And not to question your design, but I always think that look, walk, talk are excessive. I'm a huge fan of the interact only. Walk to objects, on a character it goes into conversation, if theres no object walk to location. Makes things a lot easier and feel more professional. If you're taking the time to get back into this project, I think you should think about things like this a lot. It'll really effect everything from then on.

Damnit! Every time there is a moustache challenge I shave a day before I hear about it. And by every time, I mean this has happened twice.

I do have wicked sideburns though.

You've got to ask yourself the functionality of this room. The player would only be able to access the tree and the rock and they have little walking space to do so. Why not make the sign, the tree and the well one room and the pond and the rock the other, assuming the rock has a function. If not, make the sign, well and tree one room and the pond another.

The tree is still not there. You've got this massive trunk but the branches are short and there is no leaf volume.

This tree has a pretty decent sized trunk, but it's really wide. When it comes to drawing trees, the trunk is around 1/4 of the height and the height, for big trees, is usually about the maximum width. What you've got is good, I'd just extend the leaves past the left portion of the image and over to the other side of the path.

The hills seem too tall. You want your castle/mansion to be higher than everything else, but you don't want your horizon line too high or the image feels tilted or dragged down. I'd make the hills closer together and less "high."

Not too sure about the line thickness. It doesn't feel consistent enough.

At least they attempted to site the sources of the sprites. Kinda.

Also, where is that sexy, bald headed man?

And Rich, I can only assume that you're back because you're finally finished By The Sword?
#138
Consistency how? Using the same colors on each sprite? The easiest way is to color by hand. Your sprite is small enough that it wouldn't be that big of a deal. Also, don't save as a jpg. That'll keep your images from adding any more colors or fuzziness.

I don't have a problem with roaches other than a few stray beetle-like bugs in my basement. I do have a lot of spiders and a few house centipedes.

LimpingFish may have a good idea, but those fuckers are more scary looking than roaches.

I've seen people use those "Vegas" traps and they work pretty well but don't solve the problem.

My Uncle uses a similar trap to kill ground squirrels and groundhogs on his property. You take a bucket and fill it with water and then sprinkle dried corn on top of the water. Then place a plank over the bucket and put corn on that. The animal climbs on the plank to get the food, then it looks in the bucket and sees what it thinks is a bucket full of corn. Once it jumps in, it can't get back out and it drowns. Sort of sad, but effective.
