Mazoliin's edit is great. A bit too many colors for my taste.

I changed up the face a bit. Removed the arm patches, lowered the belt and coat. Redid the legs and the feet. Changed the arms and shoulders a bit to give him a more slouched posture.

Too yellow still, but better than pink faced. Not really Indy style, and the coat looks more like a Mr Rogers sweater. Just an idea, maybe it'll help.

Before you start with any atmospheric stuff, you should really get the base down.

You're on the right path with the perspective. The walls and door match well, but the stairway, sink and tray do not. Make sure all things that you want in correct perspective (you may want the tray off centered) all go to one vanishing point.

Your walls also need some straightening. They're all sort of lop sided, and the back wall even has some "holes" in it. Use the box tool or the line tool.  Everything has sort of a blurry quality about it. It you're going for a vectored style, I'd clean up the edges of the tools and the pipe a bit. One things are cleaned up, it'll be easier to work on atmosphere and making it scary.

Depends on what you want to do. It's all subjective anyway. Paint is perfectly fine.

Here you will find a big list of programs people use. Try searching for other threads about this. There are dozens where people talk about the pros and cons of each.

I like Photoshop, but Gimp and Paint Shop Pro are just as good. Do you want free or "free"? It's all up to you and what you're looking for.

This really isn't the place to talk about this, and with a little searching you'd see there was just a thread about this a few days ago. But, if you've got some sort of style you're after or some techniques, we'd be happy to help. You will need to provide us with some attempts so we can help you with your problems.

All stickied threads are great. Here's one with drawing tutorials.

His hand could do with moving a little... That really stands out. Apart from that the main issue is the lack of 'bounce', with which it will be a pretty strong walkcycle. Better than a few I've done! :)

P.S. It is a mater of taste, but some people don't like the legs to 'kick back' that much... Though it isn't a serious problem.

The kick is a bit much, but if you lifted the knee a little and brought it forward you'd be fine. Rather than a donkey kick, it needs to be a high knee. Like, rotate the leg 30 degrees clockwise and put the bent toes right at the back of the leg.

God, I'm horrible at explaining things.

It's not bad. I think you were more on track with the first one. It's a little dark, but rather than lighten it up, I'd throw some long cast shadows from the building.

So I ended up doing an edit. Poorly, but maybe this will help.

Threw some shadows, darkened the walls with some gradients, blurred some of the unantialised lines, and adjusted the hue of the towers.

Another thing, there are some bad focal points. The gouges in the roof are pretty bad but that big tear out of the tower is an eye sore. It just grabs all of the attention and pulls it to a point with very little depth anyway. Same goes for the bottom story window in the foreground. The big opening intersecting with the horizon grabs a lot of unnecessary attention.

Also, when making damaged buildings, don't forget there's another wall we'd see. The right hole on the left tower particularly. We'd see some of the far wall and it'll give the buildings some depth.

I like Prog's edit, but I think it would look better if the arms moved less. I know it makes it look less like a walk animation and more of a dance animation or something, but I think when actually moving it'll make it a bit more sluggy and less skip like.

I'm still waiting on a Saturday where I don't have anything to do and I feel like reinstalling Vista. Transfer everything I want to a external hard drive, then reinstall vista, delete all of the other crap I don't need, then transfer everything back and install a few programs. It's not that complicated, it's just long and time consuming. And I can't even be on the internet while I'm waiting.

I feel your pain.

I wish you were in the states. I'd buy a couple of those games for my girlfriend's brother.

I agree, it's always best to sell directly to the buyer. Game shops rip you off. ;)

I really liked this theme. I wish I had remembered to participate. :P

It's interesting that there were two takes on this theme. They were either new age sort of RnB/Soul or they were Noir. I really fancy that dark feeling, and there was some GREAT use of saxophone.

1. - Moment of Delight

2. - Dangerous Seduction

3. - Please I Said

I guess Hofmeier and I both thought the same thing. :)

I love this movie. My friend and I used to watch only two movies when I'd come over. The Goonies and Mother Goose's Rock'N'Rhyme.  My favorite part of Goonies is at the very end when they talk about the octopus, but they cut it from the film because it looked like crap. They've even cut it from the DVD. It's not in the movie, but they didn't edit out the part when they talk about how scary it was.

"Fifty dollar bill. Fifty dollar bill. Fifty dollar bill!!!"

I really like the look of the Rogue edit. The dark shadows give it the look of pewter figures. I don't think the base is tall enough still. Maybe a light red over the top of the base to make it look like a tinted metal. The colored features would be good too, like cloaks or something.

I like the rogue the best too. I'm excited to see how this plays out.

Well, the best thing to do is just start drawing. If you can't draw, use free sprites from the InstaGame pack, or make a RON game and use their characters. There are loads of tutorials on how to make sprites and backgrounds and a big list of free art programs. Try copying the styles of other games that you like. Monkey Island is a popular style that a lot of beginner game makers try to emulate, so maybe try that.

Or you could make a game with no art at all! Some games only text to describe the story and the setting. There have even been some games that use photos that AGSers took of their houses and neighborhoods.

You could also make a post in the help wanted thread in the AGS Discussion board. There's not a lot of turnover for help, but it can't hurt to try.

Good luck. Hope to see some of your art back on this board. We're all happy to help you perfect it. :)

I've had this talk many times before with friends that collect guns. I think everyone should have the right, but under very strict background checks. In the state of Iowa (where I live) there are some CRAZY rules.

You must be 21 to purchase a handgun. There is a waiting period and a complete background check. Sounds good right?

If you are given a handgun as a gift, as long as you are 18, you can own and operate it, as long as it is registered to you.

However, at 18, you can walk into a store, buy an assault rifle, and walk out the door without a waiting period.

Also, all guns are registered to your name and address. But not the exact gun. Some states require you register the serial number to your name and in some cases, they take fired rounds to keep on record. But in the state of Iowa, you just have to prove you own a weapon of a certain caliber and are not required to provide a serial number.

There are some other silly rules too. It's just crazy how they say they are trying to be more strict on gun control, but there are so many loopholes.

I really dig these new band promos that people have been doing. You dont have to play for a thousand people. Just 10 fans in a park will probably bring you more promo.

Weezer recently did a thing where they had fans bring an instrument to a small get together of 100 or so people, and they had a mini-jam session. Bands have directed their attention to their hardcore fans and put less attention on getting new fans, which I think is great.

Bedroom looks good. Not really a pixelated look, but it's not bad. The left door looks a little flat and the light bulb is really out of place. Plus with it hanging down that low, more of the room would be lit. Also, what's up with the weird light source from the window? It looks like an upside-down music stand.

The second background isn't as good as the first. Not pixely enough, and the trees look pasted on to the background. Lots of conflicting light sources too. Where does the path go? It moves away from the main path and just stops. Shadows from the trees would help with weird depth and pasted quality of the background.

I finally have some dirt on Firefox! Wait until IE hears about this!

Inkoddi, that is one of the most fantastic character, vehicle and game designs I've seen in a long time.

Ten times more nerdy? Than Dave!? And she's English!?

Congrats, Dave. I know many, many of us AGSers are jealous of yo' fine lady.

A twisted reality house from the perspective of a mother going crazy? Cool.

Because of an Arcade Game? Less cool.

I think the arcade aspect is cool, but I agree with most of what Questionable said. I've always thought this urban legend was interesting (and maybe true), but it's a hard story to adapt into a game.

I like the idea of the mother going crazy, or something along those lines, distorting the house and her perspectives of things, I just don't see the connection to the game. If you're going for the mom thing, scrap the game. If you want to keep the game thing, make it a detective or a relative that's an officer of the law.
