Ugh, I had one of those anti-virus blocking viruses over the summer. It took me forever to remove the thing entirely. Best of luck to ya!

Come on, you guys. It's clearly a side effect of the re-materialization of the atomic structure of the human body after traveling through time. Sometimes ya' just end up with your dick on your back. Happens all the time.

Doesn't quite follow the rules, but this was seriously the first thing I thought of.

Not a post from work, but I catch my manager playing The Sims 3 at work all the time. IMO, a bigger waste of time than WOW. At Least you can build stats or something at work. All you can do in the Sims is buy furniture and watch simulated people have simulated intercourse.

We're Americans. Even if we did decide to boycott Scotland, we're too dumb and lazy to remember in three weeks. All loathing of other countries is pushed out of our brains after each week of American Idol.

Critics' Lounge / Re: Animating gears

You only really need to animate the big one. The little ones you can just shift the colors on the sides a bit and it'll look like it's moving.

I'd suggest layering a second cog over the first, rotating it so the teeth are interlocking and redraw the edge. You'll probably need three frames, so it doesn't just look like it's moving back and forth. That is, depending on how fast it's going.

General Discussion / Re: Math Question!

There's probably an easy way to do it based on the coordinates of the edges of the roofs and the perspective point, which is the middle of the screen. Like if the building is so far X,Y direction from the perspective point, then the X,Y,B of the base, where B is the scaling of the base, is where ever you want the base. Right? I don't know shit about math, I just had to post because I thought this idea was cool. ^_^

Critics' Lounge / Re: Faty Character crit

I think it looks pretty good. I think that changing a few things around might help it's functionality.

I chose a green bg color because it looked best with the palette. I changed the arms a bit, to make them more relaxed and give him a "fatter" attitude. The one to the right is a beefed up fatty, with a tank top for some reason. :P

Oops, I forgot to finish his anchor tattoo! Oh well.

I adjusted the face a bit to give him more of a nose. I also added some eyes, but they kind of shift the eye focus a bit. Changed the jawline a bit, just to brighten it up. Made the left forearm a bit smaller. I also shortened the legs and adjusted the feet. Changes the feel of the character a bit, but it's just an idea. I think this size of character doesn't need to be all that proportionate, and in this case, I think the legs are a bit distracting.

Also, rather than scaling your sprites in a program you can use height and width tags to adjust the size. Here's the code I used to post my images, the width and height being twice that of the original.

Code: ags

Strangely, I just got done with a project like this. I made a few small sushi shapes out of Sculpy and put shepard's hooks on them. First I rolled a ball of tin foil to about the size I wanted, crushing the foil lightly so it had little weight. Then I bundled a few coils to make rice shapes and cut the ends off and attached them to two flat sides of the foil ball. Then I wrapped the whole thing with a green sheet for the algae wrap. Poke a few jewelry settings in to it and presto, cheap maki earrings ready to be baked hard. Not as cool as Ivy's work, but hey, it's something!

When modeling with ceramics, I use a small needle tool, a wooden fenneling knife, and a plastic spoon/ball combo like this. But really, you could use whatever you feel comfortable with. A toothpick and a screwdriver were my favorite tools before I bought some legit ones. But, if you have the money, these things are really awesome to play with. But if you plan on buying tools, buy them in person after you've experimented a lot to see what works and what doesn't. I've seen some awesome results from classmates using bark to press textures into clay, but you could use almost anything you find. You can even make a texture into clay, then bake it, then have a new texture tool.

As far as clay goes, the only home bake clay I've used is sculpy. I've heard good things about Fimo and there are some other clays used to make models for silicon molds that might work well. Tin foil works great for cutting weight, but sometimes you have to wear heavy earrings for fashion. :P

Sculpy comes in a bunch of colors, but when I'm cheap, I just paint the white kind. Acrylic paint works well, but it's hard to get a consistent look. Testors paints have a better finish, but they're harder to control. Acrylic you can paint over or scratch off, but with testors you have one shot to get it right. But if you buy sculpy, you can blend colors to make new ones. Colored clay makes things a lot easier in the end.

+1 for what Terran said. All I know is that the frequency domain make sound physics a whole lot easier.

I couldn't come up with any creative ideas, so I thought I'd make a tree to match the style of another sprite I did. I only had two sprites on hand; Camp Copycat and some ninja fighter sprites from a jam a while back. Since I knew Progz would get on my case about Copycat, I decided to make a tree for the ninjas to fight around.  ;)

The tree on the left is the limb structure I drew and the one on the right is the same tree with leaves. I tried to go for a Japanese cherry blossom thing, and I didn't want the tree to stand out too much. Not sure it was really that successful. I think if I spent a lot of time making each individual "blossom" it would look more natural and detailed. But fuck it. :)

uTorrent allows you to add a torrent from a URL, but it just saves it to a temp folder, and I would guess Opera works the same way. I also place all of my .torrents in one folder, which helps me manage what I've already downloaded, not that that's much better. It's definitely just a false sense of security. :P

Only a few weeks ago, someone introduced this bill, regulating the volume of TV commercials.

http://www.opencongress.org/bill/110-h6209/show

I heard a rumor that some county passed a similar law, regulating the volume at which a TV advertiser could speak, as a tribute to Mays, but I couldn't find any information on it.

+1 for uTorrent

I like it because it's small, simple, easy to use, and frequently updated.

If you're new to torrenting, remember to keep track of how much you're uploading. If it's bizzaro stuff like hard to find books or eccentric music no ones heard of, you won't get any nasty letters from your ISP about downloading or copyright infringement, but seed some of those more popular torrents and you can quickly go from uploading a few mb to a few gig in no time. I always set uTorrent to shut down when downloads complete, and delete torrents as soon as they are done downloading. It's kind of an ass thing to do, but I seed those hard to find rarities of the internet. At least for a little while.

Nouns naturally ending in 's' can be used to show possession in two ways:

Davis' car.

Davis's car.

Both are acceptable.

You have to be careful because nouns that are plural and end in 's' just get the apostrophe at the end.

The kids toy. (the toy intended for children)
The kid's toy. (the toy that belongs to a child)
The kids' toy.  (the toy belonging to multiple children)

But with formal names, things also change.

John's toys. (the toys belonging to John)
Johns' toys. (the toys belonging to more than one John)

Names that naturally end in 's' can be tricky.

James's toy. (the toy belonging to James)
James' toy. (the toy belonging to James)

There are some names that naturally end in 's' but may also be plural versions of a singular name, like the last name Michaels.

Michael's toy. (the toy belonging Michael)
Michaels's toy. (the toy belonging to Michaels)
Michaels' toy. (the toy belonging to Michaels, or the toy belonging to more than one Michael)

The later doesn't come up often, but sometimes it can be helpful. Usually people can figure it out from the context of what you're writing, but sometimes not. My girlfriend's name is Frances. Unfortunately, most people believe it is spelled like the male Francis. Because it is not a common name (and a surprising number of people have never heard of the name), I make an effort to write her name with the possessive 's rather than a single apostrophe at the end.

While a nuke-free world would be nice...

Would it?
I think horror of nuclear war is only thing that has kept us from WW3. Since 1945, there has been loads of reasons to start a new global war.

Many of those reasons have to do with nuclear arms. A nuke-free World would be nice, but we'll just come up with some other way to manipulate countries into doing what we want. Be it different types of "super weapons" or full scale invasions of bothersome countries.

I just wish there was some other way to manipulate countries, rather than threatening total destruction. Like photos of Kim Jong Il wearing a dress or something.

Very bizarre. I love how it's got that slight minor note in there, that makes it not quite major. It's lovely. Very cinematic. Bass was a little too booming through my speakers, though.

Where did you get those child sounds at the end? I swear I've used that before on some of my own work.
