I've maybe seen one or two episodes of Danger Mouse, but oh I loved Count Duckula. Ducks are the ultimate comedic cartoon characters.

Also, loved the elephant joke (laugh)

There's actually a background story to it that'll be featured in the intro. The character is actually based on my girlfriend, who works as a graphic designer for a textile printing company -- where her job is to draw and split designs into CMYK (cyan, magenta, yellow and black) stencils. The origin story will be a nod to good ol' 60's Marvel comics and their preoccupation with radiation ;)

Also, here's an updated, masked version of Magenta:

And this handsome fella is Magenta's arch-nemesis:

His power is to turn things black -- which makes him infinitely cooler. I'm yet to think of a suitably suave name for him. I'm thinking KromatiK? MonoKromatiK? Mono-Krome?

Thanks! :cheesy: The character design is still a work in progress -- I'm thinking of adding a mask, for example, to make her look a bit more superhero-ish. I thought about a unitard and high-heels, but decided against them -- as well as the 36-24-36 standard for female superheroes. I want her to be cartoony -- also because that's easier to draw :P

... British cartoon... very English comedy style... from the 80s...

Please be Duckula! *crosses fingers

I thought the exact same thing.

Also, what Stupot said. There have been far more controversial instances of borrowing intellectual property -- such as this lovable character:

who looks pretty much exactly like a certain iconic cartoon duck. When the creator got tired of Disney nagging, he turned Howard into a rat (if only to spite Disney yet again (laugh))

Doodled a bit today (then erased everything furiously, re-thought some ideas and doodled some more) and I think I might be on to something. I present to you:

MAGENTA
...a girl with the power to turn everything she touches pink (laugh)

The character herself is not brand new. I invented Magenta -- and drew a little comic about her -- two years ago, but the story never really got off the ground. This month's MAGS, however, gave me an idea: a silly story of a superhero underdog who's trying to help despite her power being either useless or downright detrimental to the cause. I re-imagined Magenta as more cartoonish and drew her from scratch just this morning -- so technically all assets for this game are new.

Also, given the color-themed superhero, I thought it'd be fun to use some crazy color palette. EGA looks like fun:

Stupot, where do I send my demo reel?

Also, I think I have an idea for a little game of my own! Can I make it a story of a superheroine with a superpower that is only seemingly useless? If applied directly, it'd only make things worse -- but it'd turn out pretty effective if used in some unorthodox way. I'm yet to decide on the details, but I'm thinking of something similar to McPixel.

Played the demo just now. Got a bit stuck along the way, got a few ideas, but no luck so far. But anyway, the game looks fun. I really like the animations -- they're simple, but but there's some nice detail to them, especially the stretching animation. I like the humor, too. The characters are fun to interact with, my favorite being the maid -- but the mayor is a close second.

And ahem, that someone requesting Deliverants was me. Unless I'm not alone in my nostalgia/fondness of talking about games in redneck accents?

It's here! It's here! Squeeeeeeeeeee! :cheesy:

But beware! My wrath will fall upon you like a rain of molten lava if don't see Episode 49 same time next week ;)

I'm not a fan of horror games, nor those based mainly on logical puzzles -- but this one really caught my eye:

They released a demo in English for Windows and OS X. Played it just now, and it blew me away. Oh man, the graphics... It was inspired by Zdzislaw Beksinski's art -- but I see a hint of Giger and Chet Zar (the guy responsible for Tool videos) in there, too. Give it a try -- the puzzles are pretty intuitive, with some very easy "pick-up-and-use-nearby" combos but the logical puzzles are trickier, and complex enough to keep you entertained. Also, if you're interested, the game's halfway through its IndieGoGo campaign -- it already reached its goal, but it's still going, with two stretch goals.

DISCLAIMER: I'm not affiliated with the makers of the game, just spreading the word about a fun game being made in my neck of the woods ;)

Hold it, Joe Kerr! Let's make noodles! Or pork quesadilla! Ramen soup? Tender, undercooked veal would exhilarate young Zsasz!

Awww damn! I actually put this thread on my Notify list never to miss an update -- not to mention I pm'ed Benjamin to nag and complain about the lack of Deliverants. To make the waiting less painful I'm meanwhile listening to all the podcasts all over again.

These are spectacular! I love pictures of clouds, especially when backlit. I saw all the pics you uploaded yesterday, and they were all mesmerizing -- and yeah, definitely some recognizable shapes there (at least our brains are wired to seek human forms in nature, so there's that).

With the grub farm, I was getting more of a Futurama vibe -- with a hint of Gish. And I love cephalopods, they are so cute and squishy!

My German is a little rusty, but I'll definitely play it again -- and play the Polish version, while I'm at it, because I somehow missed that one when it was released. Curious about the music, too!

Oh, but they did make perfect sense, not just by the game's logic. I loved the thermometer mechanics, that was so true to life (though adapted for the game's sake) -- whereas in most adventure games survival isn't even an issue, not from weather conditions, at least. Also, it was quite an epiphany to realize I can use the shovel in more than just one place! That was such a simple, and yet effective story -- and another thing that reminded me of the "Hard-Boiled Wonderland", where in the wintery world men would dig holes in the ground for no particular reason. I really recommend Murakami, he's very "European" for a Japanese writer.
#437
Wow, that was trippy! One HELL of a ride, so to speak! It clicked with me instantly because of the main character, which reminded me of Jason's comics. As it turned out, my instincts were correct: much like his work, your game is also very serious, dark and dealing with topics of depression and death. Another thing it made me think of was Haruki Murakami's "End of the World and Hard-Boiled Wonderland" -- in which there's a mysterious, dream-like, snowy land with a twisted logic of its own. Murakami's also very well versed in European art, and much of his work is very Kafka-esque (he blurs the border between reality and imagination a lot -- AND he named the main character in one of his novels Kafka). I love how it all expanded on my experience playing the game :) The puzzles took a minute to get used to, but they really worked well -- as did the simple graphics and especially the music.

Now go make more games! :D
#438
Quite an interesting concept, too. I'm a sucker for alternative worlds with different mechanics and different technologies!
#439
Yeah, the quality of the graphics is INSANE 8-0 I don't think I know the book you're talking about, Kasander (not like I know many, either), but it reminds me of a French cartoon Ovide in some way. I smell a degree in Arts here.

And yeah, there seem to be quite a few of us Polanders here -- and a few more AGS-savvy folks out there, too :)
