Hints & Tips / Re: A Tale Of Two Kingdoms

Jon - that's a side quest anyway, and should not hinder you from progressing further (Just means you don't get the very best ending)

Zazzaro - You do have to get the exe file, and you replace the v1.0 exe file with this new v1.1exe file (note that your saved games will no longer work with this version)
The exe file can be downloaded here: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=NEEUX950
It will need to be unzipped to your ATOTK folder.

Jon -

Spoiler
Scarecrow - Wizard of Oz (If only I had a brain). You'll need to explore the ocean to find this one.
Raven and shiny thing - one of Aesop's fables (The Fox and the Raven). Try and get it to sing.
Giant - The Brave Little Tailor - prove you're stronger than the giant by means of trickery.

Raven, giant, scarecrow puzzles are related to fairytales (try and think of a fairytale which features a raven, giant strength-proving test, and not-very-smart scarecrow). You can't stick anything down the hole, but is there something that might help bring the object up? Portal should be easy to find - the location is very 'faerie-like', but you do need something to actually reveal the portal

Zazzaro - check your email. An exe file is getting put up at the moment for those who already have the game.

Version 1.1 has been released! Reported bugs and crashes have been fixed up to yesterday, and there should no longer be any show stoppers.

Download here

(The installer still says version 1.0, but it is actually version 1.1)

Edit: For those who already have downloaded v1.0 of the game and don't want to redownload the full 95Mb, the .exe can be downloaded here (22.17MB):
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=NEEUX950

Unzip the file and replace the existing .exe in the ATOTK folder with this file. (Note: Saved games WILL NOT work with this file.)

reagel - no, not that one, the other one in the room south. Besides, it's  on the other side from where you are, so you can't reach it (though a different response might be good I suppose)

Huh? - to clear things up, this is the dialogue in the cutscene you refer to:

I'm not looking for him.

I didn't know *for sure*, but I had a good idea that it was this character that did it. I didn't make an arbitrary choice - the evidence pointed to this person far more than any other. Besides, someone worked out the assassin by themselves, so it can't be that illogical.

Spoiler
If you play through properly, you might find some more clues for yourself, and more explanation once all is revealed in the game. Basically the whole thing is rather complex and comes to a power play, and I'm sure you know of another bad guy around.

Spoiler
Try taking the full truthgem to the assassin for instance, then you'll get a better reason, even if you die :P

And to reply your post below - you don't seem to have paid much attention to the cutscenes before the beginning of the chapters.

Sorry, Huh?, but you must've missed a number of clues for the player...

Spoiler
To all the city folk, villagers, soldiers, etc, Maeldun IS the murderer. The assassin asks the apprentice to find Maeldun (but refers to him as the assassin of course).

The note works as evidence, because Seelie can't work out if Maeldun is fully correct without some evidence of it. But it's not proper evidence for the player, since anyone could've written it. There are two other items that you can use as evidence.

Being honest, I didn't know who the assassin was for sure until towards the end when we were finishing the game. Only Radiant knew for 2+ years. And then it turned out I was correct just by playing through the game, so you can't just say that the author was illogical.

Yes, it has been fixed in v1.1, which hopefully will be put up soon.

In my opinion, such a major spoiler probably shouldn't have been posted, because people will read it anyway :P

Spoiler
It does make sense if you pay attention to dialogue. You can figure out who was in the castle at the time by talking to various characters, and then by process of elimination (figuring out who was doing what during the night), can find out the assassin that way. You don't really *need* to see all the cutscenes to work this out

And yes, there are some red herrings too, but they make sense
Spoiler
eg, the perfumed hair, is obviously Rhiannon's... and it'd make sense that it's there

QuoteOne of the official screen shots features what looks like some kind of confrontation inside the wizard's tower.  Are these screen shots actual game footage?  This would seem to imply an alternate final showdown, even.

No, that is not actual game footage. That was an old screenshot as a preview of how the backgrounds and sprites look.

Quotethe sprites in the game looks like to be designed for resolution 640 x400 rather than 320 x 200, in lower resolutoin they are looking not as should be I guess

They were designed for 320x200 resolution, so I don't know why they don't look good at 320x200 ingame (I myself use 640x400 as I play the game in the window since my monitor is so big). I'm guessing it has something to do with the scaling in AGS, and maybe it works better at the higher resolution, but I wouldn't know for sure.

Quotetoo much dialogue! I just want to get straight into the game, but all I've done for the last half hour is read dialogue!  when I get some more time I will play it properly. but well done!
lol. Well, it's rather necessary to establish the background, characters and plot, and this is a rather complex game, so dialogue is needed to explain a fair amount of this. Glad you like the game so far though. :)
