Interesting! Now I'm curious what 'Munarvagir' should sound like :); I will need to check, but I didn't think it sounded dissimilar to what we were recommended (but it is all a bit of a blur now).

With Skrymir, it's a bit funny, but the linguist (who is Scandinavian) pronounced it more like 'Scru-mir', while the Danish voice actor for Skrymir actually originally did say 'Skree-mir'. In the end, we went with how it phonetically looked to us. In hindsight, I should have looked at a bunch of pronunciation clips, but I didn't think to check them at the time because I was so busy working with the voice actors on getting the recordings done in a timely manner and writing emails, and I didn't realise till much later that these pronunciations were readily available anyway.

I believe this is where we got Fornsigtuna from: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fornsigtuna
(I haven't read through Prose Edda myself).

As a sorceress, there is a safe place you can stay in the woods at night :) It should help you a little. We can look into tweaking rates in v1.1 easily; when we were testing, we thought money dropped at a good rate (but then we knew where we needed to go and what to do, and the most economical ways of getting things done), so it's good to get some fresh perspective.  (On the other hand, another player indicated that later in game, money becomes too easy, so finding a good balance there might be trickier).

For your consideration:

Heroine's Quest: The Herald of Ragnarok

AGS Download Page

Heroine's Quest: The Herald of Ragnarok is an adventure / RPG hybrid. Like in many adventure games, you have a world to save, and must use your wit, guile and inventory to puzzle your way through. Like in many roleplaying games, you can customize your character with various classes and skills, and must train yourself in combat to stand a chance against the fierce monsters in your way.

In desperation, the jarl of Jarnvidr has called for a Heroine, to stand against the forces of frost and put an end to the lasting winter. Her might, sorcery, and cunning may be humanity's last resort. Are you up to the task, or will you die trying?

Features:
- Explore the rich world of Norse mythology!
- Three character classes with separate side quests: use your strength as a warrior, the arcane arts as a sorceress, wit and guile as a rogue, or create a hybrid with skills from multiple classes.
- 32 distinct voice acted characters with animated portraits.
- Over 100 hand-painted backgrounds and 10,000 sprites in animations.
- Many monsters, including giants, trolls, and svartalfar.
- High replayability due to optional quests, alternative solutions, and the three different classes.

Thank you all for the kind words :)

Khris - thanks for your notes. I've added them to our list of things to fix for v1.1. I haven't noticed the heroine moving back immediately when dodging left, though she might when she gets hit (she will flinch). As far as I know, keyboard should work correctly, so I will do some more checks when I get a bit of spare time.

Find another NPC who will help you.
#65
Ah, sorry. Radiant will make sure that's fixed in the next patch.

You don't have to do that quest to complete the game though, there are other people you can help.

There isn't any reason why your character is incapable of getting there :P You should have a necessary means of doing whatever you need to do.

QuoteOn-topic:
Can I put the difficulty on lowest whilst walking around, and then set it to middle when I expect a battle? I don't want to whimp out of a challenging fight, but I would still enjoy roaming the surroundings freely without freezing to death every third minute.

I just checked, and you can indeed do that before the battle engages. Though you should also be able to manage to survive longer than that if you're careful with your stats and how you play :).

Merry Christmas to you as well! :)

We're currently testing like crazy and Radiant is fixing those extra bugs coming in like mad.

The game started late 2009. So it'll be just over four years since Corby initiated the project.

QuotePS. I would love to get a few of you and Fizzii's pixel art tutorials, although Fizzi's tutorial site seems to be down :(

I didn't think anyone really looked at my old website! I actually need to sort out a new host first, and I was going to do more new tutorials with better techniques as I wasn't happy with some of those tutorials (since as usual, I've improved over time).

I will be very interested in seeing videos if possible :) I tried to watch the live stream but the time zones wasn't very friendly for us Australians and I had trouble hearing past the fan on the live stream (on the mornings of Saturday and Sunday London time).

We'll make sure we make an official announcement on Facebook, IndieDB, here etc when we have a date :)
#72
We haven't announced an official release date yet, but definitely aiming for some time this month. We are getting really close, so hopefully we'll have an official date worked out soon.

QuoteWill there be an option to let the computer handle the combat for those of us with slow reflexes? (If you want you could also give a slight XP bonus to players who choose to do the fights manually)

There is a difficulty slider with a very easy setting (and currently, it is super easy) for those who don't like combat elements and wish to experience more of the adventure elements :) You won't need fast reflexes at all, and the game is still enjoyable!

Thanks for posting the link Blake :)

There are a couple more updates on our IndieDB page:

The sounds were really really amusing :) And the end was very funny!

Congrats on finishing your first AGS game!

I don't seem to be able to find a way to finish the third task though? I could only find exits for the farm, tree, shells area, and starting place, so I am not sure what I'm missing.

It may also be nice to allow the blackbird to move anywhere in a room rather than relying on hovering mouse over the exit hotspots to move. Some of the exit hover text was also a little hard to find.

Took me a little while to find you in there. Congrats!

QuoteIs this Warthogs? :=

Hah! I was tempted to put a custom sprite of Radiant into a Warthogs graduation montage with the other students when I read that! But then I realised I've lost those graphics :(

After just over a month, we have made some decisions on our voice cast :)

We ended up with 118 different people auditioning for our project, or 77 male and 41 female voice actors.

Over three weeks of auditions, we had a big surge of interest at the start, and another surge of auditions towards the end.

On average, an actor auditioned for 5.1 characters, giving us a total of 606 separate character auditions to listen to. It was very tough making the casting decisions and some great actors did end up missing out, but we really appreciate each and everyone's interest and time regardless, including those from these forums who took part :)
#79
Also, we are looking for voice actors! If you're interested or know anyone who would be interested in helping out, please look at this thread here and send me an audition for any of the characters you're interested in.

Yes, the auditions can be sent to my email - fizzii_ish@yahoo.com

If you need any more info, let me know :)
