It's just a dance! What's so special about it?

Oh God, sorry. X_X

I guess this means no-one is going to take me seriously now.

Project:
Jeff Wayne's Musical Version of The War of the Worlds

Details:
An adventure based upon the concept album.

Positions Available:
First: I need someone who can assist with the background design; it's just not one of my fortes. What I need is someone who is knowledgeable about London and the Home Counties in 1898, and possibly be able to draw the whole city from a birds-eye perspective as well. This might arguably require multiple artists, but we'll see. As for the Mars backgrounds - leave those to me!
Second: I've tried multiple times to animate the Martian Fighting Machine's walk-cycle, but all of them have gone badly wrong, so I'm going to need someone to help me animate the machines. All of them, if that's possible. Come to think of it... I vaguely remember someone suggesting to me that the machines could be rendered from 3D, with most everything else painted or something. I'll check.
Since we're shooting for a standard 320x240 resolution, only those who work better with low-res sprites need apply. I may end up calling on others for the characters too, but we'll see what happens.

Deadline:
To be blunt, I want to work on this as quickly as possible, so I don't end up lazing out on it like I did before!

Out of interest: which would you prefer? A panelled frame of cutscenes a la Gabriel Knight? Or should I shoot for full animation? If it's the latter, I think I might need a little help...

I dare you to watch the Nostalgia Critic's analysis of it and tell me afterwards that you won't be able to sleep tonight!!!
Yeah, that guy's face will give me nightmares for days, not to mention his voice!

The animated movie, however... yeah, it seems awfully retarded, to such an extent that it actually becomes kinda funny. But scary? Really? :P

Well... yes. I had nightmares from something so simple as Test Card F, you know!

Apologies for reviving the thread, first of all - is it allowed? I'm not sure... but it has taken me a few months to decide on a definite answer.

"The Legend of the Titanic". An animated movie (not to be confused with "Titanic: The Legend Goes On", that one with the rapping dog). I mean - not only is it an insult to the thousands who died on that ship, but everything about it gives me the shivers!! The art! I don't know how to describe it - it's just downright scary! And they make the claim that a terrorist gang (comprised of sharks) destroyed the ship via that frightening dog-nosed octopus! And somehow all of the characters who are killed come back to life at the end. Not to mention that graphic depiction of a dog peeing on the captain's shoes....

This film... is THE STUFF OF NIGHTMARES. I dare you to watch the Nostalgia Critic's analysis of it and tell me afterwards that you won't be able to sleep tonight!!!

Now - come to think of it... one person on the TWOTW forum said:

QuoteI wonder, with all the other recordings and variants of musicals such as Les Miserables etc. out there why does it seem there cannot be a different take on this, why does this musical ALWAYS have to have the same cast?

Hey, I'm sure some people will say the only Ché should be David Essex in Evita but I happen to like the Banderas version (even if, IMO, the film of Evita was, ahem, bad) and think he does have more venom in him as well. In a simular fashion I also happen to think Michael Keaton was a brilliant Batman but that doesn't mean I don't enjoy the recent Batman movies, or the fact that Batman/Bruce Wayne is played by someone else.

And they had a totally new cast, even replacing Richard and the NASA guys, in that planetarium show in New Zealand! Heck with it, I'm going all out! Who wants a part?

You want to play Beth? Well - I suppose I could draft you in. How good are you at replicating Julie Covington's voice?

Although... come to think of it, it is a possibility, considering that I'm shooting for a sort of "Gabriel Knight"-esque graphic novel approach. But there'd be considerably less animation too, unless that's preferred. I got this screenshot from one of Richard Burton's other roles; it might serve a nice foundation for his introductory narration.

On another note: voice acting is also a possibility; I've got the recordings for the original script from the Collector's Edition of the album. But I still have to get some of it from the actual tracks themselves, so they still have a strong bass underneath them. Whether or not I try to isolate those vocals (which, by the way, I've tried numerous approaches to, all with unsatisfactory results), it sounds like half-assery! Plus, I was hoping to incorporate the "Distant Shores" scene from the new tour, a scene which wasn't written in the original cast's time... I'm not sure, is anyone willing to replicate their voices, or...?

And to crown everything: a good chunk of the US population want Piers Morgan deported for trying to enforce stricter gun laws. It's almost as if they're asking for another incident like this! Although admittedly it does break the Second Constitution... but still!
#31
Excellent, thank you very much for that!
#32
Excellent! Is there a way to control the speed at which it scrolls?
#33
Ah, well, this is for the opening credit sequence; no character movement, except maybe for a few comets.
#34
Background scrolling! Yes - how do I do that?

I mean characters included.

Ah! Much as I'd love to, I think I'd better stick with a combination of the two. It's easier. I've also got the whole code to write, unless someone is willing to assist.
#36
It is? How do I do it?
#37
Is it possible to continuously scroll the background of a room without running into any edges?

Alright! We're off and going! This is the first scene painted for the game:

Granted, the black outlines detract slightly from the mood of this scene, but... it's easier to paint that way.

I was hoping to use different arrangements of the songs, but... yes.

And by the way... the Liam Neeson sprite isn't all I have, because.....

I'm bringing this guy back! Remember him? The generic/Larry II/Richard Burton Journalist? His sprites will be the same, though.
