Could be done with IsMusicPlaying relatively easily, I'd say.

Yes, it was Verizon, but the names were surrendered to the RIAA rather than the authorities. (although the RIAA certainly doesn't seem to see a difference lately)

Oh, I'm not so sure. You might well be liable under the DMCA just by looking for it. This doesn't mean, of course, that I think that message you got was authentic or in any other way worth worrying about.

Serbo-Croatian, possibly.

As SSH mentioned, OS X is based on BSD. As it uses Allegro, for which there is an OS X port, it should be possible to port the engine. I'm less confident about the editor, though - that would require much more manual work, and would probably have to be done from the ground up.

There are also PC emulators, you could try using those.

My advice: Leftover potato crisps from the day before and maybe some Fisherman's Friends.

I'm trying to be a composer and a programmer. Both are "glamorous", as far as that word applies, and in much the same way.

As for childhood ambitions apart from these, I used to want to become an "inventor" (you know, the kind who builds time machines and so on) for quite a while, as well as a palaeontologist (which, as every child knows, means "somebody who discovers DINOSAURS!") or possibly an astronaut of some sort. The usual nonsense, pretty much.

1.
It doesn't matter what others use, what matters is what you use. If you can work better with PSP, use that, if you like Photoshop more, go with it, or if you prefer GIMP, that's good too. You can get probably trials of PSP and Photoshop from jasc.com and adobe.com respectively. I don't know about GIMP, google for it.

2.
Ignore the COBOL compiler. As a compiler alone is no good for anything, I assume you also got a linker, the usual set of standard libraries etc. with the C++ one? But yes, if it doesn't come with an IDE, you can use any old text editor. Wordpad is a bad choice, though.

It's the Onion, Yufster. It's called satire.

Well, I'm out if you're going to use General MIDI. :)
Not that that would be such a great loss.

Oh, and high-bitrate lossy formats are an option, although obviously lossless compression (Monkey, say) would be better. Definitely nothing below 256 kbps if we were using constant bitrate MP3s, though.

It's not a permanent ban. It will be removed in a few days, perhaps a week. I wasn't present at the time, so I don't know what exactly happened except by what others told me, but while it seemed obvious from log excerpts that your (highly irritating) behaviour WAS a joke, that doesn't make it better. Considering you ignored warnings from ops, there's absolutely nothing wrong with the ban. Wait it out, cool down. Nobody is going to kill you. Yet.

I've been working together with DarkStalkey for a while, but we have it a lot easier because we use the same software (Buzz) and can just pass the .bmx files back and forth.

This might be a good idea, but unless it's done in General MIDI or with (basically) electronic music methods that might not be to everybody's liking (a remix chain, so to speak) I'm not sure how we'd do it.

What's with all this pride in one's country's military heritage/record, anyway? Where's the justification for it? "My grandpa killed more people than your grandpa!" I don't mean to be rude or patronising, but I really don't see what's so good about that kind of thing, and why the generations that are alive today seem to think they can somehow take credit for it just by being descendants of contemporaries.

SSH, see, that's exactly what I'm talking about. I must admit that I'm unfamiliar with Phillip Glass's work, so I can't talk to you about him in particular, but the problem is that people seem unwilling or unable to accept the existence of ways of appreciating or enjoying a work of art (this applies to any medium, not only to music) that differ from their own.
