Cascade Failure, or: To Catch An Oreleant

You play as XAN, the Security AI of good old science vessel Von Grun (just as in the ill-fated and shortlived original Cascade Failure which still lurks on my harddrive, waiting to be finished some day...). Everything goes well, until your data gathering algorithms spot that one of your crew members is obviously an Oreleant and therefore has to be terminated. Since nobody seems to be sure of what that is, things could get... interesting.

Ah, well. There's always the termination option.

[A little rushed, sorry, but this topic looked so empty and sad...)

Well thank you.. :)

Let's see if we get any other entries before tomorow.

For those of you who are unfamiliar with the mockup blitz it's described by some as follows:
(some parts may or may not have been altered by me, but that's unimportant right now.)

"Your objective [if you choose to accept it] is to create an adventure game mockup. This means that you must create a scene exactly as it would look as if you were playing a game. You must design the interface, the main character (if 3rd person view) or any other characters, and the background."

[This message will self destruct in four seconds]

*You are to show us a screenshot of a game sporting atleast one Orealeant (visible on the screen).
It (the Orealeant), must have a integral part of the plot but it's optional to have it as the main character.

*What exactly an Orealeant is, will be up for you to decide, it's colour, shape, powers (if any), will be up for your imagination.

*The plot and goal of the game should preferably be somewhat apperant from the screenshot, and it must be geared towards the nature of the thing that you've created.

*If you would decide that it is the main character, the GUI should obiously have functions as to how one would opperate, if it doesn't have any legs it should obiously not have a "walk" button and so fourth.

*No size or color restrictions.

*An Orealeant is not invisible, nor is it background-colored, or so fast that it's impossible to catch one on the screen.

*I have a blistering headache

GO!

don't worry zynd!

By that time us two will be long gone in some parallel universe, celibrating our honeymoon like the couple meant for each other that we really are..!

I better start thinking out a new theme to the next competition.. and pray that it'll be half as fun as this one was.

Yeah, did some research, the PAlib looks fairly cool.

Very much alike allegro that I played around with back in a day..

I have several stories.. however it's dialogue that I have a problem with (as well as drawing backgrounds..)

Thank you

Spoiler

You should follow the map litterary from the map room,

aka head south out of the cave first, then proceed with the next direction written on the map.

The last entrance is hidden, and won't be visible to you.

I think it would make a swell game...

No, it does however seem like unrefutable proof that the basket as been possessed by a mischievious poltergeist..

I would watch out for the TV...

'Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house
Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse.
The stockings were hung by the chimney with care,
In hopes that Saint Nicholas soon would be there.
The children were nestled all snug in their beds,
While visions of sugar-plums danced in their heads;
And mamma in her 'kerchief, and I in my cap,
Had just settled down for a long winter's nap;

When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter,
I sprang from the bed to see what was the matter.
Away to the window I flew like a flash,
Tore open the shutters and threw up the sash.

The moon on the breast of the new-fallen snow
Gave the lustre of mid-day to objects below,
When, what to my wondering eyes should appear,
But a robot unkown standing anear,
Left at this place for thousands of years,
It has come back to hunt all of it's peers.

As loud as a jetplane the gears in it whined,
the tortured screams in it confined,
it's eyes reflected my self like a lens,
the seconds left of my life was nearing its tens.

For thousands of years the robot had served.
The program once given to be observed,
dead all the mothers and fathers inside the house,
dead all the children who slept near the spouse.

Now before leaving it's job well and done,
the robot began it's final one,
It started filling the stockings with candy and toys,
ate all the porrage left by the boys.

And then it left, making a hole in the wall,
moving towards the next house to brawl,
from it's voice box a distorted recording made light,

“Happy Christmas to all, and to all a good-night!”

I too once a long time ago, had a cool and meaningful name, just like you guys, with a story to tell about it.

However, back in a day I started playing World war 2 online and when signing up my cool and meaningful name had allready been taken by some zitty teenager (like me I presume).. after many many attempts at other lesser cool names, all which had been taken aswell. I finally, in desperation, because I wanted to play the game I just bought, ended up writing my own name.. just to realise that it was also taken..

then I slammed a one on it and it got through..

..I wish I had a witty and cool name like you..

My mom works with blind people and I actually got an adventure game designed for just kids wich has either bad eyesight or are completely blind.

It's an old text based game which as Ishmael says can be read by screen-readers or can be read on one of these : http://www3.goteborg.se/ekonomi/arsbok03/pics/vohandikapp_1.jpg

and also "holy cheese" instead of "cheese with holes".

Well, what if said cheese actually was holy?

It's far better to have an holy cheese than holy holes..
