Hey, I wasn't sure who to ask about this so I was hoping you guys would be able to give me a hand.

Heres the problem, I am dyslexic and as a result a slow reader, I am scanning in books for my homework in TXT format (my teacher showed me how)

However the program at school (that reads work aloud) requires i be at school and I'd also like to do some work at home.

Before I have used Babel fish, i just copied and pasted the work in and it would read it (in a bad translator voice but oh well i got the gist)

Since then my computer has crashed, i lost the babelfish program and the demo CD i got it from lost so I'm a little stuck. My google searches have been a bit confusing as i'm not sure of the phrase to search for.

So anyway does anyone know a program from the net either as a demo or shareware or something not too costly that would do this.  ???

Also I have found a computer voice option in windows control panel and a friend has hinted that perhaps that can be used through word or otherwise without me having to download a completly new program, but i'm stuck again.

Thank you very much for reading, it probably seems like a stupid question, but it would really help me out (heck i could also use it for big chunks of the AGS manual yay)

My game isn't properly thought through just a basis at the moment. Just want to see if it may be worth actually making.

The aim of the game to to get enough money to buy a ticket to a concert or to go to a theme park (or something simiolar) may be given a gangish theme to cause enough trouble for your gang to take over.

its made of photos of a town you can visit places like the nightclub or seedy back alleys. (may be lincoln or peterborough uk)

its in first person you play as yourself

There are lots of mini games to play in which you can earn money or items. Such as in the nightclub you can get peoples phone numbers by chatting them up, then selling the numbers to mr desperate in the corner. A big mission will include graffiti tagging certain areas, but solving puzzles first to get everyone out of the area so they don't call the police. Then you gat paid for graffiti areas by a gang leader.

I was thinking some kind of pizza delivery mini game.

and a game in which you have to answer questions in a pub quiz getting questions wrong means your charactor has to take a drink, too many and they pass out, you have to start again.

ok now looking at it i know it needs alot of work and there will be other puzzles in persuit of money or mischief for example cover a small remote control car in a mouse costume to scare away a door guard who happens to be afraid of mice.

Hi, i'm just doing a topic for uni on the invention of the video recorder, what did you do before you got one in your house? Could you not live without one?

I just don't know where to start this topic so online serveys always bring up good results...

Hello sorry this isn't an adventure game but I thought you guys as fellow gamers might be able to help me.

I have had several copies of the game Silent Bomber (great game about blowing stuff up sneakily).  But after the boss of level 11 the game crashes and refuses to load any more levels.

Surely if the game has been released (and re released as I brought one yesterday) It should have been tested as this is a major bug. As it is now the fourth copy that has done it. I know i should have given up sooner but the first three were second hand and i thought maybe I kept buying the same copy after i had returned it. Stupid shops.

Has anyone else experienced this problem? Is there a way around it, i knoe this game is terribly old but i have been waiting years to complete it!!  >:(

Is there maybe a cheat to get me to level 12?

hey help me sort an arguement guys. ???

My friend says that all films are made for men and they all like certain types of film. he says that women cannot enjoy films like men do and some genres only men like!

i think hes wrong, but i'm only one person so cant judge others views.

the question:
could you say what your favourite genre is along with if your male or female?
could you tell me why you like the genre?

Well this is about AGS in a way. I made my ags game and have to email it to my teacher to be marked.

I've already sent it twice as an attachment to an AOL email but both times he did not recieve it. Could his email think my attachment is a virus and deleteing it? :o  He should be recieving it on his school email which i nknow nothing about.

Does anyone have any ideas, this is my A level coursework that needs sorting. As i said i'm on aol.

would it be better to post it somewhere and get him to dowload it but he knows nothing of how to do this.

Sorry for this seemingly useless thread just didn't want to gave evryone wading through the old and very long thread to find my problem, waste of time.

Anyway
1. CreditsSettings... does that need to be placed anywhere special because it will not notice i have put this in, either with the SetCredit bits or just before i run the credits. The lines are squahed together anyway.

2. Occasionally I get a blue cup insted of a line of credits, though the settings are the same only the lone number is different like it says in the manual. I deleted one line with a blue cup but on the next go round another line that worked before had turned into a cup. It seems to happen when the line number is 30 or 31.

3. will ags creditz allow music to be played aswell because PlayMusic (10); will not play my file Music10.wav in the game folder. I may not have a music9.wav does this make a difference?

4. The game won't quit after it plays the credits (and won't play music) I put this in when player enters screen after fadein.  0 is credit int

CreditsSettings (100); // put this in to see if it made a difference but did not
RunCreditSequence (0);

5. is there a way to get the credits to start appearing halfway up the screen because i have an animation at the bottom that is being covered by credits.

6. slightly off topic but this code for making the room animate drandomly does not work any ideas, the room animates constantly insted. it is in the rooms repeatedly execute bit.

Well, i'm stuck, very stuck... wondering round for hours stuck...

anyway, i'm on the alien planet I have all items i can find to pick up in the space ship, and underground bit, and i have dug up the grave and fund the bracelet.

I consulted (several) walkthroughs and it says to look over the edge of the dirt ramp and find a lens. but the only hotspot i can find is the hole i found the bracelet in. I can see no way of telling the charactor to look over the edge. I have looked in the overhead map and close up of the dirt ramp.

Also the walkthrough says you need to find a control panel, does this appear after you find the lens and do something with it, or is it something else i can't find?

I need a game to run off a CD for my school project.

I wrote it onto a cd and took it into school, the game wanted a folder to save the game though i had to save function, it also wanted a place for the setup programme. As far as i know.

The examiners will not copy the game from the cd to their computer to make it run. (this is the only way to do it) because they are paranoid of bugs, virus, ect...

heres the question, I do not know any programming at all, but is there an option to make it run without wanting to save anything.

Can CDs be virus checked? that might work? I really need them to see my work or i won't have any marks and i fail! oh woe is me (no university then)

OK heres the thing after playing tonnes of games I have found they are easiest to play, not in content but control systems and interface.

For example Toombraider, and any skateboarding or fighting game has tonnes of buttons, but point and clicks are easy, point here click there no problem. Except grim fandango, i'm stuck because I can never renember what button is pick up! Any stratigy game has menus all over the place.

Is this true, what is the easiest game to play?
Does frogger beat it, can be played with good timing and the foreward key.
Umm... over to you.

(edit) just another thought, is it just me or is there more than one way to play an adventure game, for example when a friend plays I always hang around and suggest answers to puzzles. but neither of us could complete it on their own.

This is for my game Dragon slayers 1st demo out now but someone noticed a bug and i have searched the help with no idea how to fix it.

Right I have a janitor cleaning in the park his idle anination is sweeping, then later in the game you knock him out and his idle animation changes to being knocked out with stars above his head.

I want at this point not to be able to talk to the charactor after he is unconsious. Is there a IfCharatorIdle(no. view, Char);
so I can set it so if the charactor is idle when knocked out it does not start the convosation, thanks

A little bit about my game,
I started in August, It is a school project (media studies) and my first game. No cut scenes as yet they will not run.

As a school project is is designed as a demo to promote the real game and the games compendium(which I may make later) this was the project title.

The game: You play as Chuck Champion, an 8 year old boy, who has to collect weapons to go dragon slaying with his two friends Quinn and Eddie.

Featuring:
320x240 16 bit colour
Lovable charactors
A range of childrens toys (to play with)
'diverse and detailed' backgrounds
Puzzle soving in the confines of the cardboard box.
And a cameo appearance of one of your childhood heroes!

Critique and comments welcome nothing rude, constructive only, thanks.

Get the UPDATED Version of Dragon Slayers.
Updated Version Includes 200+ Voiced Lines, fixed Titles, scrolling credits etc.

OK apart from the adults who play games all the time most don't have a clue.

For example i brought my game to school on a CD (finally) and my teachers were really impressed when the charactors could walk and talk, let alone all the other, nifty things i put in, like animations and a secret room!

I recon If i made a one room game where the charactor walks on the sky they would still be impressed.   :P
By the way saving another post do you think that if i say
"sorry as this is only a demo you cannot save"
Like in flight of the amason queen demo, it would be acceptable as my gui just isn't working and there isn't much to the gameplay yet.

and how do I get people to review my game! I need them to do it to finish my project for school! I would be very grateful and would review some back over christmas if mum allows.

Sorry i don't wanna sound desperate but i need this finished tonight.

1. heres my code, i want to play flcs 1-3. IT is in the preload screen. On when player first enters screen.
RawClearScreen(15);
PlayFlic (1, 1);
PlayFlic (2, 1);
PlayFlic (3, 1);
NewRoom (2);

But it goes straight to the newroom. and does not even say it cannot find the files. They are in the game folder. THe rawclearscreen is st try and stop the previous problem i had with flics. (the background was turned black and the only bits that would show where the animated bits)

I want to put my game onto a cd, so a friend can play it on a different Computer.

1. What files will i need?
2. if I just copy the game folder from the AGS folder will it work?
3. Does AGS have a setup file that needs to be run on a computer without AGS? if so how do i tell my friend to use it?


I know music and flc animation files go into the compiled folder and i will copy that. when i get voice files on the second version where do they go?
can they be put on the CD seperately with an option weather or not to use then in the game?

like in the options menu a button to turn voices/subtitles on/off? pehaps? maybe a little far fetched.

I believe I have a ghost in my room.
1. When you walk into my room from the rest of the house it is like walking through a wall of cold air.

2. my lampshade is swinging... started last week, and will not stop. my mum thinks it's because there is a hole in the roof and the winds getting in. But today it is foggy that means no wind at all or the fog will blow away. It was going real bad this morning!

3. bottles of alchol appear for no reason (no wait thats me sorry)

4. I swear i saw a girl sitting on the end of my bed about a year ago!

I am making custom save/load menus.
I have been reading through the manual and cannot work out how to make the game save muliple times or how to load it back again.

I have used GetTextBoxText to get a name for the file.
SaveGameSlot needs this input so i am using that but it also asks for a slot to save it to.
Does this mean that i have to do this multiple times each with a different slot number? perhaps using boxes to represent different slot (like playstaion memory cards)
Also the RestoreGameSlot asks for a single integer, do I have to do this multiple times also?

I hope to have this all triggered by pressing a Save or Load button on the gui like in proffesional games.

If it helps this is what i have so far

Heres a little puzzle, I am making a game for school, needs to look professional,
made cutscenes for it, only work as AVI but take up 150MB. works fine on computer just takes up an awful lot of memory.
But when I get my game burnt on CD (emailed to a friend who has a rewriter) do you think the 150MB (split into four seperate files) will slow the game at all? The emailing will take the longest.

While i'm here does anyone know where i can get musical notes for nursery rhymes (in ABC notation if possible) I tried to google it but i was stuck. They were all books to order online i don't have the time or money!

One last thing... in an adventure game is it annoying when the whole game has the same music, should I make 2 or 3 files to play in different rooms or replace background music with ambient sound where appropraite?

I am trying to get a few things that make the game look like it was made  well, not by me!

a few things i may, may not need, space is not an issue because this is coursework so i can have sound and other things.

1. Cutscenes
2. Speech (should I have this an opitional feature)
3. Easter eggs, little things to find, how fun! ;D
4. A readme file (in notepad)
5. music
6. a setup file (is this automaticly created by AGS so my game can be played on other computers)
7. System requirements?
8. own icon?
9. save/load system
10. witty comments, or a real dumb main charactor.
11. a moment where you can let your inner child free and create mischief, or kill someone? he he.

*edit* sorry i'm not clear, you can add stuff or just tell me if i'm right, if these things are what i need for my game to look proffessional, it's for schoolwork.

I'm having real problems, i've read manuals so much my eyes are sore.

In my flic animantions, they work alright as gifs but when converted to flcs the background turns black and only things animated are shown, it looks terrible.

So either anyone at all with any knowleage of animation shop pro, may know what i have done wrong.

or will avi's work better? I don't understand how to put them in, what is the first intiger? is it the filename or something else?
