ok so WHY do we want to take revenge on babies?

they're helpless, yet i'm not having any myself...

they make horror movies about a small lifeform talking over your body though a process of alien penitration (men could be alien i guess) they grow in there for a little while then pop out with the most of pain, noise and fuss. (sounds like birth) exept most of us are still alive afterwards. Then these little beings either kill you or take over your brain/ life/ planet/ car....

sounds about right!
and then they get you all sticky, but if someone has taken the trouble of going though all that to have one of the little critters we should not kill them.

SSH i know your point (from page one) we should not hate them because they are helpless everyone even adults need help once in a while!

when i first read this thread i thought you meant along the lines of bunnies small children and other big eyed cuteness :o

but it did remind me of George in Broken Sword, i thought he was great, he told us all about his life though what he discribed things. For example a cookie is not just chocolate chip, but the way his grandma used to make. We all renember things like that.

Also i found simon the sourcer quite lovable, the vioce is a big part of the personality in game with sound he reminded me of someone. Also he says exactly what you are thinking, weather it be witty or just plain rude! be prepared to take the micky out of your own game. we also see him slapped about alot, the expessions and comments about this are priceless. A good schocked face is essential.

Just like we love the small child who slaps a fat womans belly to see it wobble or the charming little one who points out every little fault.

hope this helps, gemmalah! :)

there is a strange phenominon in my house featuring save games. Both me and my brother play adventures, I only have one save file (expet if i know there is a bug and don't want to loose too much progress) yet my brother will use up all other avabable slots with saves such as 0_o and meep. and probably never use them again.

the same with my boyfriend and most male friends, they use save slots willy nilly for every game and then wonder why their hard drives are full. I know someone with 23 save games for final fantasy 9. why? I just get on with it and complete the game. Or is this a symtom of people who have played games in which it is possible to become a walking dead?

yet back to the topic, multiple saves are better for serious gameplay or multiple players. If the game is short enough to be completed in one or two goes your system seems quite neat. as save systems are hard enough to programme!

Ive got to the underground cave! if thats what you mean do i have to do something to the ramp the dead body is under?

Oh sometimes walkthroughs ask to look at the scenery around the exit of the dark tunnel nearest the airlock, i cannot find a hotspot there either. maybe a fault in the game, has anyone competed it?

is it the ramp near the airlock? cos there are no hotspots there. all other exits require the lens to open it, like the doors.

is there a room i havn't seen by walking off of the screen downwards while in the nexus.

What thats an outrage!

I heard of one guy who would get on the bus and talke his shoes off to put his feet on the chair infront... problem solved!
oh but this guy also tried to put his feet under the bottoms of the ladies sitting infront for thrills! ewww!

but the trains round here you have to stand up because all the seats are broken so it may be safer to sit on top of the train than get impaled by your chair.

Well, i'm stuck, very stuck... wondering round for hours stuck...

anyway, i'm on the alien planet I have all items i can find to pick up in the space ship, and underground bit, and i have dug up the grave and fund the bracelet.

I consulted (several) walkthroughs and it says to look over the edge of the dirt ramp and find a lens. but the only hotspot i can find is the hole i found the bracelet in. I can see no way of telling the charactor to look over the edge. I have looked in the overhead map and close up of the dirt ramp.

Also the walkthrough says you need to find a control panel, does this appear after you find the lens and do something with it, or is it something else i can't find?

thanks alot everyone gemmalah

I agree with everyone who said about puzzles where the puzzle is to work out what you have to do, then it's obvious. You should know what to do, just not how to do it!

I'm playing the Dig at the moment and i'm so stuck beause you are on this alien planet, with a few bits and bobs, a thing which could be a key but you can't use it with the doors, an alien metal detector thingy, and your faithful shovel, but i don't know what i've got to do. i'M SO ANNOYED. been wondering around for hours.

same with grim fandango actually. Or discworld noir a puzzle is solved by talking to people, miss one topic and you're there all day talking to everyone in the game about everything in the notebook.

i like to play a game wher i like the charactor, i like simon the sourcerer and george from broken sword because they say funny things and you learn about them as a 'person' by what they say. Or if they're so damn cute!ahh

I voted!

About icon based dialogue didn't somebody already do that, i think it was scavenger!

oh if you want a death charactor with real well.. charator try looking up the death of discworld on google or something. or talk to someone who reads discworld. he is a very good charactor to start with if you are stuck on design.

oh and this sounds a bit like grim fandango. tell me why would this doctor be evil or mad if he wants to make everybody live, not die or bend to his will or do his bidding? does he want to take over the world, or overpopulate it? this is a great idea for a sub plot, the potion makes everybody zombies or something there not living or dead just in the middle.

probably working out what you had to collect in the first part of toonstruck aahhh who thought that rock and roll would require a real bread roll.

I need a game to run off a CD for my school project.

I wrote it onto a cd and took it into school, the game wanted a folder to save the game though i had to save function, it also wanted a place for the setup programme. As far as i know.

The examiners will not copy the game from the cd to their computer to make it run. (this is the only way to do it) because they are paranoid of bugs, virus, ect...

heres the question, I do not know any programming at all, but is there an option to make it run without wanting to save anything.

Can CDs be virus checked? that might work? I really need them to see my work or i won't have any marks and i fail! oh woe is me (no university then)
thanks a bunch everyone

Jongetje took the words right out of my mouth.
for a light source pick a place were it should be and place all shadows facing away from it. as if they are scared of it

If i've just confused you futher, try moving a lamp around an object and watching the shadows. my art teacher showed me that.

apert from that I like it, very neat room, like in a hotel just as you arrive!
#34
why don't you post some of your art here, if anyone is interested they would like to see a sample first won't they?

As for me i'm bad at art but worse at programming, so i'm going solo for a while so i don't burden anyone!

I thought you ment something else. A game we played in drama was like that were one person say a sentance beginning with the letter A then B then so on.

For example a class room scene

Abby stop throwing pencils,
But miss
Cant you ever behave
Daniel told be to do it

and so on, quite funny when you have to think fast.

this is really hard!
as sequals are similar in style i'll have to mention simin the sourcerer 1 and 2, as 2 didn't lose the charm of the original. Funny witty and great.

THe discworld series (a masterpiece) I'm a fan of the books and these follow them faithfully, with enough explination for those who haven't to understand and those who had there isn't to much so we get bored. Rincewind is great. Death is wonderful!!(the charactor mind)

then sam and max hit the road. Heard there was gonna be a sequal true?
#37
Yeah but i'm not arguing a point but adventure games can be real easy if you let them, you can follow a walkthrough exactly on these games. Unlike tombraider for example where it says jump to this kill this pick up this and fall down this and by that time you are dead!

but i think using walkthroughs all the time is cheating!
though i like games were there are about 3 or four buttons and directions, i can't renember more than that.
#38
Ok dann I'll let you in on a secret, the name quinn is one I have liked for a long time.
It is from a TV programme on in England a few years ago called sliders, the main charactor was really cute and called Quinn.
Secondary I love the song Mighty Quinn dunno who it is by, it's about an eskimo.
Thirdly, in my first designs quinn didn't have a name, I waited until I had finished to see what name would suit, he is based on someone I know.

OK heres the thing after playing tonnes of games I have found they are easiest to play, not in content but control systems and interface.

For example Toombraider, and any skateboarding or fighting game has tonnes of buttons, but point and clicks are easy, point here click there no problem. Except grim fandango, i'm stuck because I can never renember what button is pick up! Any stratigy game has menus all over the place.

Is this true, what is the easiest game to play?
Does frogger beat it, can be played with good timing and the foreward key.
Umm... over to you.

(edit) just another thought, is it just me or is there more than one way to play an adventure game, for example when a friend plays I always hang around and suggest answers to puzzles. but neither of us could complete it on their own.

Hello ShockingBlue

Do you mean you have no inspiration or no talent? (joke) seriously everyone has a bit of both is small amounts at least, it just isn't so obvious it hits you in the face! (cos it hurts)

Heres a tip for inspiration try looking at the competitions on this site that give you an idea of what to draw, or even better  get other people to challenge you to draw something they tell you to. Like a cat in a clown suit. Things that come out of other  peoples heads sometimes look better than things that come out of your own head because you have not really got  a high expectation for that.

Bit long winded, hope it helps, best thing is practice, and don't expect to be perfect first time, second or third maybe! Mhahahah
