perhaps he needs help with an idea?

My advice is to just think of one thing, a charactor a setting a line of dialogue anything and the rest will follow, decide what resolution to do it in and draw your pictures first, this helps me to plan the storyline a puzzles before programming.

This is for my game Dragon slayers 1st demo out now but someone noticed a bug and i have searched the help with no idea how to fix it.

Right I have a janitor cleaning in the park his idle anination is sweeping, then later in the game you knock him out and his idle animation changes to being knocked out with stars above his head.

I want at this point not to be able to talk to the charactor after he is unconsious. Is there a IfCharatorIdle(no. view, Char);
so I can set it so if the charactor is idle when knocked out it does not start the convosation, thanks

When i was a n00b nobody said really nasty things to my questions. but i admit just typing RTFM does not help, maybe an explination of where to look. For example i'm looking for something like playing flics, and i look under cutscenes ( have already done that) get confused and ask the board, i would be nice if someone said there was that option.

For example that is, some people don't think of the right words for what they are thinking of , just a rough discription, (or like me they can't spell the word they are thinking of).

It is good for n00bs to show off their artwork, gives them a boost of confidence knowing they can show it to people, if one persons artwork annoys you, tell them what is wrong or ignore them, simple.

and yes  some can be over ambitious, too many ideas and not enough time, if they wish to plan out loads of games let them do it, i know someone who is a real great programmer, not a n00b can work out complicated things but can never finishes a game, because they go onto the next game. But what can i say i only had one good idea in my life. (and that was what to have for lunch)

thats odd eggie, i got a diskworld book too, mine is night watch, so brilliant i can't put it down exept to play  computer.
I also got lots of soap, humm, and deoderant and perfume, is it a hint i smell?

man, you don't need to be a genious to use powerpoint, oh and i like the point that they liked the fact I made the game, probably true.
cos i'm not some glasses wearing braces wrearing nerd who has no tan and bad breath (most likely male but none can tell) who cannot like without a computer they think i probably can't programme, that is so wrong isn't it guys?  ???I don't have bad breath or braces.  ;D

I will have a look at those bugs and could post an upgraded version soon. I didn't notice them myself.
I don't know why the xylophone has no sound, it did on my computer when i tested it.

I actually didn't think of aiming it at kids really, my homework was a demo but origionally it was going to be an ags animated cartoon of south parkish nature. Thats why the graphics are kiddish,but whist making the game it was going to be ruder exploting the innocence of chuck to play creul jokes on him, but this didn't go down well with friends and family.

My friends thought chuck was too cute to swear, my mum banned any rudeness whatssoever (computers in the kitchen) and i have to show it it my teacher leaving an element of charming to it. The puzzles are easy because it is the first portion of the game, but as i make the completed version it will be harder.

Like there will be puzzles where you have to dress katie up as a princess to get the dragon to come out of the cave, the venture through the cave to resuce her. Then you have to make the super secret ultra deadly dragon trap for real. But really the dragons a nice guy (no cliches for me)

A little bit about my game,
I started in August, It is a school project (media studies) and my first game. No cut scenes as yet they will not run.

As a school project is is designed as a demo to promote the real game and the games compendium(which I may make later) this was the project title.

The game: You play as Chuck Champion, an 8 year old boy, who has to collect weapons to go dragon slaying with his two friends Quinn and Eddie.

Featuring:
320x240 16 bit colour
Lovable charactors
A range of childrens toys (to play with)
'diverse and detailed' backgrounds
Puzzle soving in the confines of the cardboard box.
And a cameo appearance of one of your childhood heroes!

Critique and comments welcome nothing rude, constructive only, thanks.

Get the UPDATED Version of Dragon Slayers.
Updated Version Includes 200+ Voiced Lines, fixed Titles, scrolling credits etc.

WEll i'm not annoyed at the reaction but i did get a little annoyed when they were so enthralled by talking to people and walking about that i couldn't show them the REAL good stuff that took the longest. I really wanted to show that stuff off. And ok i'll leave it to the forum to give big crits yay.

dragon slayers on a forum near you soon. (just when I get that bug fixed!)

OK apart from the adults who play games all the time most don't have a clue.

For example i brought my game to school on a CD (finally) and my teachers were really impressed when the charactors could walk and talk, let alone all the other, nifty things i put in, like animations and a secret room!

I recon If i made a one room game where the charactor walks on the sky they would still be impressed.   :P
By the way saving another post do you think that if i say
"sorry as this is only a demo you cannot save"
Like in flight of the amason queen demo, it would be acceptable as my gui just isn't working and there isn't much to the gameplay yet.

and how do I get people to review my game! I need them to do it to finish my project for school! I would be very grateful and would review some back over christmas if mum allows.

cool, i'm a scorpio too. OH and it's not urgent anymore sorry i'll give it in to my teacher as a draft tomorrow not as final.

anyway, the only thing i did to the animations to redo them was to go back to their origional gif format file. Add a few frames ect. change it back to the flic in the way i did before with animation shop and made them have more colours so it didn't look distorted and do that problem it had before.

third point... that is what i did. I set the foirst room to 2 it has a picture of my charactor and that is all so you can see it while it is loading the flics insted of a background. and in that room after fade in i wanted it to run the flics.  then when that didn't work i tried it in the preload screen room. no luck either.

do you mean the other player follows you about and then you can use it for puzzles like in broken sword 3. Like george asked his friend Nico for a hand pushing a pole.

For this you could maybe use the follow charactor option with maybe speech options in different rooms to perform certain tasks.

hello again scorpious (are you named after a charactor in farscape by any chance)

OK RawClearScreen was used in an attempt to stop a previous error with avis and flcs where the background was black even if it really wasn't and the only bits you could see where the ones that were moving. (someone said this may be keyframes. I havn't tried without it yet.

my files are called flic1.FLC ect, does it need to be in capitals definately. Because i tried this before and it worked, but i needed to redo them and now they won't run at all, i resave them under the same names. I will try naming them with capital letters.

I call it from inro.crm after fade in. I have tried putting it in the first room you go in after fade in but that didn't help.

Sorry i don't wanna sound desperate but i need this finished tonight.

1. heres my code, i want to play flcs 1-3. IT is in the preload screen. On when player first enters screen.
RawClearScreen(15);
PlayFlic (1, 1);
PlayFlic (2, 1);
PlayFlic (3, 1);
NewRoom (2);

But it goes straight to the newroom. and does not even say it cannot find the files. They are in the game folder. THe rawclearscreen is st try and stop the previous problem i had with flics. (the background was turned black and the only bits that would show where the animated bits)

Thank you, so much !

Just the loading and the cancil button to go.

The cancil button is set to the right one (button ==cancil), thats done, the button on click function is set to run script the gui i've set  to turn off is the right one. I've chacked a dozen times, i can't see anything wrong with it. Oh and it is under the correct if gui == load thingy.

I'll work on the loading and try again later.

Hey man, I was absoutly no good at drawing when i started, i still can't get anything 3D to look good but i'm doing A level art because i am good at other things, like clay and paint and knitting!

So knit a background, no only kidding, but if you have a scanner how bout you make a collage background from things in magazines, never seen that done before!

or use photos?
and definately post in the critic lounge, they are really helpful.

Why can't chain letters be illegal also? oh.

How do you think they are going to enforce this law? Anyway is it illegal to  send from the UK or to the UK? big difference there cos a company could just send an email to america then the ameriacns can spread it around!

I want to put my game onto a cd, so a friend can play it on a different Computer.

1. What files will i need?
2. if I just copy the game folder from the AGS folder will it work?
3. Does AGS have a setup file that needs to be run on a computer without AGS? if so how do i tell my friend to use it?


I know music and flc animation files go into the compiled folder and i will copy that. when i get voice files on the second version where do they go?
can they be put on the CD seperately with an option weather or not to use then in the game?

like in the options menu a button to turn voices/subtitles on/off? pehaps? maybe a little far fetched.

Oh i'm having another problem, sorry guys, thanks scorpious

I got my list box to come up with a scrolling bar, i think this means it is on, i can now select different items but they are invisable, the writing does not show up.

It tells me i have too many save games when i try to save but i cannot load them.

Oh and

for some reason doesn't turn off my load gui
