As for graphics card, the Radeon 9700 is better, but unless you're going to play any of them fancy 3d games it doesn't matter much. You'll still get the same frames-per-second in Photoshop!

Try booting the computer with the Windows CD and run FIXMBR (I think it was). I had a similar problem once after a defragging mishap where windows refused to load, even in safe mode. So I just booted from the CD, ran that command, and it jibbled a little with the MBR which apparently had gotten broken somehow and voilá. Perfectly working computer again.

I have no idea what's wrong with your computer, but at least this is less of a hassle than reinstalling windows for now...

As we can clearly see from his T-shirt, you were the victim of his logic!

We are only human.

Athesists/whateverists: Don't try to make the Christians "realise" there is no God. How could you possibly know there isn't?

Christians: Do not be shocked and surprised at the comments here. I'm sure you can see why any non-religious person might find it silly to think there's a guy up in the clouds that knows everything and chooses what to do with your soul after you die.

What are my religious beliefs then? I don't really believe anything, because there's no way I could know what's truth and what isn't, so I don't want to take a stand and argue for something that may not be true at all. I just acknowledge the different opinions and then move on.

Something like this?

Hmm. Wonder why I made it so yellow. Oh well, I just had to give it a shot.

Strangely enough, the 9800 generation is still about as expensive as the newer X800 generation, so you might want to consider buying either an X800 pro or, even better, an X800 XT.

I have been waiting for the price of the 9800XT to drop, but it doesn't seem to be happening. Last time I checked at a store I usually order computer parts from the 9800's were out of stock. The time I checked before that it was still as expensive as an X800 Pro. Bah.

ISP throttling upload to foreign servers? Try sending to someone in Finland and see if the problem persists.

I've always felt a verbicon/Lure of the tempress style interface to be a perfect combination of both. Right click on a rose and you could (possibly, depending upon the programmer) get options of smelling, picking, crushing etc.

The problem with that is that puzzles can become quite obvioius. Let's use the rose as an example.

We right-click on it and are presented with the options "look", "smell" and "slowly remove the petals and thorns and then eat the stalk, keeping the thorns and petals".
You can be damned sure that at some point the solution to a puzzle is to slowly remove the petals and thorns from a rose, eating the stalk and keeping the thorns and petals for later use.

An exaggerated example of course, but I hope you see my point.

Critics' Lounge / Tune. Work in progress

Hello.

It's been a while since I've made any music just for fun. Most of the stuff I've made lately has been for games, but now I finally started working a bit on something that's (probably) only going to be for listening.

It's not finished, as you can tell by the topic, but I thought it would be nice with some general C&C before I continue. The tune is nothing special, just making it for fun... but still, serious comments do not hurt. Silly ones are also accepted. I can live without creepy comments though.

Here goes

Things I am aware of:
The drumming is a bit weak, but I've never been good with drums. Also the transition at around 1:01 is a bit clumsy. It's gone through a few revisions, but it's still not very good.

edit:
Awesome! I posted in the wrong forum at first!

I like the composition. Not much I can say about that, the strings sound fine to me.

Quotewhen listening to this tune with speakers, some instruments appear to be too loud

This, however, I agree with. The piano is a bit too loud, and listening with headphones it feels like it's way too panned to the left. Try centering it a little, or put a little echo of it in the right channel or something to make it a bit richer.

Quoteif you look at this forums, there is one stycki topic named Gameseek - find adventures
there you can post this question of yours

No, actually. That post is for asking where you can download games you know exist, but can't seem to find a link to. I see you've posted there already, but it's no big deal.

Out of AGS games the only police games I can think of is Larry Vales 1 & 2. If you haven't played them, you should!

Lyrics mean little or nothing to me. I only really listen to music for the music. Lyrics are pretty much like poetry to me, and poetry is something I've never liked. I like the human voice as an instrument, but as long as the notes are right it doesn't matter much what the lyrics are.

Needless to say, I always write my music first and my lyrics never.
