Credit is always nice but not really required. I took much of the code from an existing template myself, and as far as I am concerned templates like this really are more of a "working base".
Will polish it a bit though, and eventually it may become a full-fledged "stub". Then I want a penny each time someone says its name  (laugh)

dactylopus, agreed, absolutely. And maybe I did lose my calm there a bit, sorry for that.

Cat, kudos for the final say- though I fear I'll have to go totally vaudeville style now  (laugh)

I maintain my disagreement that music is somehow less important than graphics.

I never said that. I never said anywhere that music is less IMPORTANT than graphics. This has never been said by me.
I have said that fewer people are able to create their own, original music than there are people who are able to create their own, personal graphics.
This has indeed been said by me.

Quoteand they add to a game but aren't required

Here, I see how this can be misread, but I find it strange you did so. I spoke in terms of functionality and under that aspect a graphics adventure game clearly needs graphics to be functional, while sound and music can be taken away- in the same way as voice acting can be replaced by text on screen. I didn't mean to make music look inferior.

I'm only saying to people to try Costume quest, it's addictive fun

I am now in the happy position to try it out, thanks to the game-manifesting powers of really cute ducks!  ;-D
Thanks a bunch veryweirdguy!

Any more comments about the use of pre-made material?

Just to sum up and reinforce what has been said already, I think this is a fair way of seeing things:

- Since this makes the bulk of the game: Write your own scripts.
- Since they make the visuals of the game: Make your own graphics.

From now on, you have a personal game.

Since sometimes you can't figure out something or don't have the time to write a full SCUMM: Use templates and modules from the forums as you see fit.
Since sometimes you don't know how to draw something: Browse the webs for reference material.
Since few people are talented musicians and/or don't have the equipment: Use music and sound effects from public domain / freeware sites.

Okay, got you now ;) I thought you'd use text labels to display the speech (since you mentioned a text box). In that case lip synch clearly would've had no effect.

Since I have never used Pamela at all, I need to step aside and leave a helpful answer to someone else  :-[

I use LucasArts to separate the Speech view and the text box and it works perfectly.

How exactly? You are using LucasArts speech display I assume, but how do you get the text into the text box? Which command are you using- not character.Say I guess?

I don't even dare to click the link!

The advantage of modules is that they do stuff for you so that you don't have to learn how to do it. The disadvantage of modules is that they do stuff for you without you needing to learn how to do the stuff yourself  :)

I'm no codemonkey. I happily accept that there are skilled programmers here who crank out cool stuff, and I will happily use it. But I always make a point of taking their code apart and see what it does and how they get things to work, and I actually have a good grasp of the basic and more advanced features of AGS. The official AGS tutorial is a good way to get familiar with the basics. But the "higher" you go the more ways there are to reach a certain goal. What I really miss is the old original Demo Game. It had (for its time) great code. It was instantly playable and then you could dig into the script and see what was done behind the scenes.

I really think we could use more games like that, released as playable games WITH well documented source. And then we can just whack people on the head with pointy sticks until they start reading them.  ;-D

That was some nice readin and a hard decision! I couldn't even call it 1 point for each story because there's only 5! So here we go.

Sinitrena's Truth: 3 points
Lovely moody atmosphere and my inner role player jumped up and down with exitement.

Stupot's Catch44: 2 points
The twist is neat and the happy ending takes the cake.

Ponch's Edit: 1 points
It's the desperate badass approach that sells it.

Would you like to take a break? You look tired and perplexed.

Nah, fighting you just has me relaxed.

What I mean is learning about choosing resolutions and colours for your game, using the game settings panel, GUI's: Z orders and how to manipulate them and how to have them display etc.  Making a 'Splash Screen' / 'Credits Screen', Changing mouse graphics etc etc etc.....

There's something to that but I feel that many of these are very subjective. If I want to know about how to add an inventory item, there is a clear answer, which is a single comment. If I want to know what resolution is a good one to choose, I'll get many different answers.
I like the idea of an AGS Cookbook, and many things you mention would look good in that!

springthoughts, you come over as a friendly guy, maybe a bit insecure if I may say so. Do your thing. Writing a tutorial is nice but, and here I side with Khris, you should get the basics down for yourself first.
I think if you wrote that tutorial for yourself instead of putting it up chapter-by-chapter you'd have found that you are basically telling yourself how to do things, and that is a good approach.
The only bad thing I could say that you insisted on not using images. That really felt unnecessary- loading times can't be that bad and an image is a much better way to explain a screen layout that a paragraph of text  (nod)

I have a gift of Audiosurf gathering dust in my inventory. It's one of these games that create a racing track based on music, allows you to import your own music, and then lets you score the hell out of your playlist. It's pretty entertaining too.
Claimed!

Also, Zen Studios made good on their promise and the aforementioned Sorcerer's Lair pinball table is available for free now. It is very good and it has a helful girl ghost.

Thanks Stupot!
Ah. Right. Wow, I even posted in one of those back then. Pass the popcorn, please.

I remember charming clay-animation. I also remember having to read a LITERAL wall of text. Took me over an hour I think. Back those days they had the guts to annoy a player  (laugh)
