I keep notes in AGS. I made a shell game with a character standing there all lonely in a desert, and he will randomly quote my notes, which are essentially hard-coded.
It's delightfully useless.

I'm also still using CrystalShard's HYPNOTOAD. So relaxing.

I like the idea, a LOT.

In an ideal case, it could really become a "breeding ground" for (talented) hobby writers who won't make a living but some nice "side money". In such an environment I can easily see like-minded people eagerly pay a bit more than they would for a self-published eBook (see Snarky) just for the sake of offering support. I see that a lot on Steam- the early access model is basically the same (only for games) and it works. Mostly.

Then again, the minute you create a community with rules, these rules will be broken, and since money is concerned, there will be some just trying to troll or make a quick grab. One thing I guess will happen quickly is people padding out chapter with filler just to "meet a word count", holding "chapters hostage" or merely copying from other works. That always happens.

In a world where every man, woman and child's worth is measured by the quality of their facial hair

Geez, you HAVE BEEN to Aachen, right?

So the new line should be written earlier than the original ?

I think you misunderstood the concept of a translation file; you don't need to provide translations within the game's script ;)

Create a translation file, as selmiak explained.
Now open that file with a plain text editor (I recommend NotePad++).
You will find all your original game's text in there, with empy lines in between.
To make a translation, just write the translated text into the empty line UNDER the original line.
Then rename the trs file into Italian.trs.
Import it into AGS.
NOW you have a working translation.

Loved the "monster in Paris" artwork. Amazing colour study.

A very charming movie, too, I can only recommend it.

Infinite Monkeys- and Deep Roy plays EVERYONE.

I bet there'll be some future games taking advantage of this! Thanks for sharing; I'll surely check it out (nod)

The only problem now is... It's SO pleasurable and fun to cut trees, lamp posts, bushes and rabbits, that I can't stop doing it and the progress of the project is very slow :D

Sounds awesome!
When a throwaway (?) feature becomes so satisfying you should run with it and milk it for all it's worth! Allow for combos! Make hidden sequences where cutting x, y, and z result in... something! Add a score for rapid cutting- you see where this is going!

I'd like to see that "Best UI" award simply for the implication that there's more than BASS (which has become a standard and is boring as hell) and that the way you interact with a game can shape the game- that is SO OBVIOUS that I wince at mentioning it. To name a recent example, Resonance has been lauded for its interface. It was NOT completely novel (even the memory thing has been done before) but it just made sense within the way you played the game, and it was a huge achievement, code-wise. It came with a lot of visual overhead since everything slid in and out and occasionally you'd have to make a few extra clicks, but that did not ruin the concept.
Any clever idea to make an adventure go beyond look/use(on) should be worth an award.

ThreeOhFour has a blog that has some neat articles. It's been a while since it has been updated but it's well worth a look.

Our very own Dave Gilbert blogs over at Wadjet Eye Games too, which makes sense, since he IS Wadjet Eye Games. If you want the perspective of a man who earns a living from AGS, that's a good start just there.

I already have the AGS blog, Ghost's, and a few others on my list; but I'm still looking for more.
Occasionally I do posts there based on suggestions, so if there's anything specific you'd like a ghostly look at, just shoot! (nod)

How about an award for best user interface?

Excellent idea; +1 from me!

I'd suggest a big piece of cake, but in view of all those Spring Break screenies, you'd probably prefer some broccoli. ;)
Actually, I had fried rice and chicken salsa. Very spicy.
Spoiler
And THEN some cake.

I like adverbs and think they are necessary in many places. "Said" is neutral, and in a book you can't see the speaker(s) and clearly NEED to know about their emotion. It's easy to overdo, yes, but following Snarky's example I just took the last book I read, "Something from the Nightside", which is a detective noir novel, and took a few samples. Even the deadpan main character gets his fair share of adverbs, mostly to add impact to the fact that something catches him by surprise.
Adverbs good. Masses of adverbs in one sentence, not so much.

For the fun of it I copy-pasted one of my longer blog posts into the Hemingway'er. I ended up with sentences that no longer made sense, so I may need to clean up my writing a bit ;-D

Simplest solution: DON'T CLICK THE HOTLINK! (laugh)

Damn this is cerebral. Gotta waste some time on it!

EDIT:

I think there IS a pattern. I managed to come up with this setup five times in succession:

As you see, the next turn (right) will give me a 16 out of two 8s and start a setup for another 8 to merge with the remaining one. I managed to work up from there AND come up with the same tile pattern (where all values were powers of 2). ONCE. By accident. But I am sure there's a sequence hidden in there. This is one of those games where you need a notepad or a move tracker. ;-D

You had me at "Achievement: Background". I imagine that you can "upgrade" the game looks in some way (?) and I think it's a very cool idea.

There was some browser game back then where you started with a simple "stickman" game and had to buy every little extra, from menu screens to sound effects, with in-game currency. Would be interesting to see that in a game notorious for its mix-and-match look (nod)

What's this brown/golden thing supposed to be? Can't quite figure it out.

That's a Venkmann2000 Poltergeist Deflector.

There's at least three poltergeists there, and let me tell you, two of them may or may not be fraternal twins working in ghostly synch. That's rare (nod)
