Then I hash out story scenes in my head, usually synced to music.

That's a nifty little trick and well worth remembering!

You'd just eat snowmen in any shape and form, wouldn't you?

That's an offensive slur, sire!
Sometimes I also DRINK them.

This looks absolutely great. I mean it, this is awesome! And such a fluid movement, too!

That green sulking thing in the corner over there, that's a ghost full of envy.

we are the north it seems, we should rather get some firewood once winter is coming...

I'm pretty sure we have access to wood. First post mentions us putting up a wooden wall, so there must be resources?! I also see a FOREST through the kingly window.

Hah, first shot fired, first pawn moved! Keep it coming (nod)

I had just bought Mount and Blade: Warband a few weeks ago, and now the sale has it for super cheap (roll)

Same here with Skullgirls. I don't regret the purchase because the game really is worth the going price, but sometimes I wonder WHO rolls their sale catalogue. It must be an extremely cruel and sardonic RNG.

I missed out on RPG Maker VX. It was extremely cheap, down to 15â,¬... I hope they'll reheasrse that. So ya, waiting for that one, though I admit I always only ever really tinkered with that stuff.

+1. If I read it correctly the wares are "ever-changing, meaning nect time there will be different items for sale. For now a robust means to provide food for subjects and livestock sounds the most attractive.

Why not just ASK IF MERCHANTS ACCEPTS TO BE PAID IN WARES?
Reason: We are about to open/establish a trade route. Should the first action really be potentially annoying the merchant by haggling? I tend to play it (too) nice maybe, so it's just my 2c.

A snowman is better than Turkey? I'm pretty sure that's offensive to the residents of that fine country.

There is, however, the Snowman Pie.

Inoffensive to all countries, an improvement over standalone turkey, and best: In a pinch it can be made with turkey in it, elevating it to a compliment to everyone, including the turkey.

It's a game. We know WHAM's games, they have rules, we can screw up, but there's no malevolence. Usually. I think for a first day this worked nicely and we have some safe time to greow accustomed to things. And we didn't do anything really silly like setting the peasants on fire. And we have a cow.

Personally, I think the Jester is reliable. My reasoning is that if the EVIL KING held him in a dungeon, he must have been NON-EVIL. That, or the EVIL KING hated jesters. I wouldn't mind a less prancy advisor but for now we have a free source of knowledge. And if this game sticks to history a bit then remember, the jester is the one man in the kingdom who is allowed to say anything, even to the king, and again, locking him up would be an indicator that the EVIL KING didn't play by the rules. Jesters traditionally are untouchable.

QuoteIn my view, the first thing we need is MONEY and INCOME. Therefore, I would suggest offering an audience to the MERCHANT and ARTISAN.
+1. While chosing the ability to hand-pick our audience may result in people leaving, I prefer it that way, and now that we can call specific subjects, we should get the groundworks done as soon as possible. I's also like to learn about what we actually HAVE for trade. Apparently wood, and cows (one less now). What's more?

I'm not seeing the advantage of pixelation with your art style.

I agree, merely resizing won't work here; your hand-drawn style would require some more effort to be made into a "pixel art" background that gels with sprited characters. Stick to it, man. That drawing is good, and if you have a nice small game planned, you're bound to find someone who'll team up. Personally I'd prefer to play a game in such a style with matching characters, e.g hand-drawn, cartoony, the whole shebang.

And now I remembered the cartoon it reminded me of: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g9ZVWMPuZ2c

Not to sound rude, but you get the same effect by just resizing a photo to somewhat of 320x240. Pixel art is usuall much more about each pixel being relevant to the picture. That's why you put up with putting down pixels by hand, that you have control over the image on a pixel level. So, yes, sure nice to get a quick mockup, but I don't quite see it as a replacement for a nice x1600 zoom and a 1px pencil tool... :-X

+1. This really makes a lot of sense, it's odd to just let anyone in, not knowing who/what he/she/it is/may be.

I'm looking for sprites akin to Day of the Tentacle.... or cartoons such as 'Ren and Stimpy', if you know of that!??! used to love it! ha! I need thick black outlines and over exaggerated motions..... im gonna have a right time finding a sprite guy!

You should make up your mind about game resolution and general tone, and then pitch the story with those references. Personally I'd say the backgrounds will not work well with sprite-art; I suggest you really have someone drawing and scanning the character art. Then, however, I foresee several levels of awesome (nod)
