I like this idea a lot! It seems like writing my own functions is the most fun though, but complicated functions in a database would be great. Also, I'd be glad to add all I cn to it, and it would encourage people to write functionsmore generally, thus making them more flexible for other people and for their own other games.
:)

stuh505: Wow, a complete Animal AI system? That's incredible! What was the development system you made it for? I'd be very interested to see it. You've inspired me to try doing something like this in AGS. Not neccessairilly animals, could be a city/town/something simple first, but animals are the ones that intrigue me most. *cracks open her nature encyclopedia CD". :D
In fact, I've been messing with AI ideas for a long time, in combination with non-linearity. I like the whole aspect of building a world as a base for everything, with rules etc, which would become a complicated task, but would then allow for just about anything to happen there. :)

Hmm, I just thought, it could be nice to rename all the files to strange names and extensions, and then run them, but it would be difficult to remember what you named each thing. So, my question is, can you do this:

#define BOB1.AVI 4hs7.2j0j
or even
#define BOB1 4hs7.2j0j

where 4hs7.2j0j is the actualy filename?

Not too familiar with #define yet, so I dunno if I can define sctrings this way...

It's nice... Like the sound and animation. The site it's on is interesting too. Thanks :)

Sure, I'd like to test it! Tech demoes are fun. I don't know about my experience, but I guess I'm more near to the scripting geek category.. :P I did have this on my list of things to implement in the future for my games, so it'd be interesting to test. :)

I really like this idea. Wouldn't it be possible to use character.x and character.y settings for the main char and use something like SetViewport to make the room loop?
#326
I find this pretty straight forward, but one aspect of RPG, which is money, trading, shops, etc, can be handled by making each shop a character with an inventory, and using quite simple inventory adding/losing scripting, with a variable for the amount of money.

I was also thinking of making something that uses this, because it could be very interesting in an AG to have to think carefully what to buy. :) Personally, I'm less interested in the otehr aspects of RPG.

Great thread btw terran ;).

That's suberb! I especcially love the pose and the colors. Also, the lines are very nice and sketchy-like. I assume it's supposed to be cartoonty so it makes sense that the head is smaller than the body. You've acheived a really mean-fat-badguy look.. :)
#328
I love it, very smooth and shows character. Howver, if it's going to loop, wouldn't it be funny/weird if when she says something really funny, she's in theserious frame, and when she speaks firmly/about something sad, she'll be in the laughing frame? Just a thought.. Of course if you don't plan on her saying sad stuff, that should work wonderful! :)

One thing, I kinda feel like the first time the red eyes close, it's the end, maybe if this one was a quick blink, and then a short pause, and then then close...
Umm, more clearly:
....close white eyes
open black eyes with red pupils while fading to black simultaneously(sp?)
wait ~1 second
blink
wait ~2 seonds
close eyes

One more crit: I thought the last letters looked better themselves, but these are animated better. Maybe they should be thicker/more like a brushstroke?

How many frames is this btw? I'd imagine the words would take long... How did you get them to write so smoothly?

Anyway, great job with this cutcene! I imagine it'll be the same each day? This actually inspired to maybe have something similar to keep track of days...

P.s. About the hair, maybe it'd look better if the highlight was a bit brighter? Her shirt is a bit too flat too, maybe. Shouldn't part of the breasts be visible yet? I am nitpicking now..

Well, quite a lot of critic, but this deserves to be perfected completely.
:)

Edit/Modify :D: Yes, I agree with Scummbudy now too. The day 2 should maybe stay on always, for consistency or somthing.. Or not.. It's just that there is still a leftover of it anyway (very dark red), so if this were a bit lighter it'd work better imo. Not too much
difference though ;).
Also, this absolutely needs sounds, though I'm sure you already know this. :)

Sounds good, maybe I'll try it.. Now just to think of a robbery... ;)

Btw, I like the open-source rule, it'll be fun. :)

Wow, great, new software! Yay, Offer your services! Hmm, I like having a delete option, but Edit sounds better than modify, heh. One thing that bugged me: hovering my mouse over a forum name, I see the number of the member and not the original name (I found it useful to hover a changed name to see the username and not the displayed name).

Also, by using title instead of alt, will t function in the same way?

Anyway, that's all I had to say, and I like the new profile options :).

P.s. The new icons look, umm, blurry? I dunno, I liked the old ones (though Darth's are best imo..).
I think the gender is somewhat useful, as Dragonrose said, but people not knowing your gender is amusing.
Wait, wanderlady is a guy? [insert odd eyes icon here] :P

Also, was there never an option to not include signature or something? Not that I use it, my signature is short for now, but just wondered if anyone ever used it.

Best feature yet: Offer your services in profile! :)

edit: can't find the delete option.. I was going to say it shouldn't be the same place as modify, as it's easy to accidentally delete, rather there should be an option like it when editing: You need to both tick a box to confirm, and then click the delete button. Elimnates possibilty for accidents IMO.

One last thing, which seemed to start as soon as the new website (not forum) was launched, is that because AGS site seems to use frames now (or maybe it's another reason), clicking a link in the forums or the site opens it with the status bar still showing the adress of the site or forum, or alternatively not at all. Does anyone else notice this?

That looks like an awesome guide, Scuthbert (I kept pressing Tab while writing your name :D)! I'd love to read your theories. I don't have a site yet, but I can reccomend some hosting places. Otherwise, I could upload it, but only after the weekend, as I'm away. Check the "Places to upload a demo" thread in games in production forum. :)

Rincewind ;D. But it truly is an awesome animation, and looks like a great scene. Man, I gotta get Discworld :).
#334
The third version is indeed the best, tons of atmosphere there :). It eliminates the problem of emptyness on the road, as there is fog. The lightsource however is very bright to be making so little light it seems. Adding more lighting would be more appropriate Imo, and would add contrast. Or just make the light source emit less light, it could be better for the atmosphere. I'm not too sure what the black blob-thing is near the hay, maybe it just looks weird on my monitor. At first the shape of the house was unclear to me in the first 2 versions, but it looks great in this version :).
The grass is a bit squarish, since it's some sort of farm area I'm guessing it's natural grass, not laid down, so I think it'd grow a bit more freely, possibly even get in the road.. This is really nitpicky though, if it's too much trouble to change it i'd just leave it as it is, it's beatiful. :)

Lastly, I would like to request a tutorial on the fog in Photoshop. I think I can figure out how to make everyhting with a hint of blue color, but the fog would be really nice to know how to make. :)
I also have a suggestion how to use the fog in the game- make the fog either an object or a walkbehind, and the character should walk through it (actually, I don't think this'll work with an object, you could try though. An object will allow you to animate it, otherwise you can make it a bg animation. You can probably manipulate transparency and RGB settings to use it properly in AGS). I hope you won'ty have to get rid of thr fog.

Wonderful background! :)
#335
Heh, thankyou. :) The cool perspective is of course thanks to the original being so awesome! The cliff turned out strange with those lines, not like the original, but I kinda liked it, heh.

And, apparanty, this is my new style of bg drawing.
#336
Well, I can hardly wait to see your sketch, but I'm not quite sure I want the logo in pixelart from. The vector look is really smooth...
I'll make up my damn mind after seeing the sketch. :D
Thankyou for doing this! :)
#337
Yes, and some rules for the newbies who want to be mentored too, to aboid the situation InCreator described.

Hmm, that's odd though, I would've expected enthusiasm from newbies and less interest from oldies, not the other way around.. :P
#338
Ashen's suggestiong seems best to me, but you could also try and see if changing the resolution to 640X480 (square aspect ratio) would work. I don't think it does anything to the bg's, and if the gui is 80 pixels it'll fit. otherwise, I can't think of anything else except using a different gui.
Hope you find a solution :).

Hmm, alpahbet star = Hindersh?
Untruly yours = Andail? The only hint that was useful to me was #3... ;)

There it is, a rather quick entry, but I was in a drawing mood. We'll see if I feel like this again tomorrow, in which case I'll make a better entry. Right now I am really tired from celebrating our independence day..

This scene really isn't worth much without the character falling and the awesomely voice acted "Aaaaaaaaaaaa!!!", but I like the ambience in the original. :)

Rince, I love your entry!
And earlwood's outlines too. :)
