The same way the protagonist is the hero (usually the main PC), the antagonist is a villain.
I'm still unsure what phobia I'll give him, but I don't think either way I'll finish this on time. I haven't worked on it for over a week, all this school pressure... Arg!

:D :D :D This had me laughing all through it, I could barely read! I've had a few odd sentences pop out of my mouth that sounded like they came out of an adventure, can't remember exactly, but no scenes like that :D. That's a good puzzle btw :P
I remember quoting The Longest Journey for a short while after finishing it, and I was trying to quote the intonation and voice too ;).

Oh I've been waiting for this! I get excited before these articles every time! I'll read it and see if I have any comments. :)

edit:
A bit short but a great read. :) Interesting how even this flawless plan gets into problems. It takes real willpower to fix the mistakes and continue, rather than stop production. Also, great sprites as always! Heh, good dialogs even for something like this are a sure sign the actual game dialogs will be just as good and better ;).

Ooh, great work Greg! Is it just me, or are there many non-adventures being made? I'm planning to make and RPG(ish - just the RPG features I want) demo, but I have other games to make first... Which reminds me.. MAGS!!!! :)

Could you clear up the theme for me? I want to participate, it's quite a somber, moody topic that goes well with my mood lately... Life is... Does this refer to the meaning of life?
Also, by suicide, does it have to mean physical suicide, or could it be mental/psychological? A physical suicide would make my story quite extreme and depressing.

I might aswell get some creative writing practise since there aren't any game design courses I know of.. Meh, I'm babbling nonesense. ;)

It seems to me like there is also one } missing here a the end:

Code: ags

    if ((button == 5) && (game.top_inv_item > 0)){
      // scroll up
      game.top_inv_item = game.top_inv_item - game.items_per_line;
  } // end if interface STUFF

Great character! Her face looks older than her body though (i.e. the body of a kid the face of a teenager/young adult. I'd make her legs longer (they look odd), so she's taller, define her breast some more, etc.
Unless she's supposed to be a Tomboy kinda girl, and young, in which case she looks great but she needs a younger face and longer legs. Maybe the face is just my imagination, it could look fine with longer legs... :)

1) I dunno about 0, but I think it should be allowed. The music.vox file however is in the Compiled folder afaik. Check there. Does the music play in the game?

2) Yes, use a room for all your messages of this sort (with an overlay or an object for the text), and you can create a custom FadeIn function for the object (and possibly the overlay?) using SetObjectTransparency. I dunno where I put my custom function, otherwise I'd post it, but I'm sure you'll figure it out. :)

What file are you running? You need to run agsedit.exe.

And welcome to AGS! :)

Yes, I remember that ;) Some great stories there! However, the difference is that was for writing short ideas to then be made into a game.. (I remember another competition which asked for ideas and then chose artists etc, but it got stuck there (it was a fantasy idea by SSH). That would be nice too.
What I mean by this is writing a complete game design document, with puzzles, dialogs, behaviour of elements in the game, for a short game.

Hehe, well I hope to see a return of the team comp in the summer, when it really is easier to work in a team. :)

Yes, I figured that's what you meant, but once again, if there are people who might be interested in making open source files then yes, there could be a place to post them other than completed games or technical forums.
I might be making a small RPGish test game open-source.. oops, was that too much info? shhh... ;)

I know there was once a group game making competition in which a team of randomly selected people (winamp? :D) would create a game in a month (?).
I dunno if it was being hosted by m0ds (
http://www.agsforums.com/yabb/index.php?board=9;action=display;threadid=5333
) or someone else, but is anyone else interested in bringing it back?
I think it's a great concept for a competition, and with some tinkering with the rules it could work nicely. Making games in a team is possibly more challenging than alone, because it requires more organistaion and team-work skills, so I think requiring just a short but interesting game would be good.
Teams could be selected randomly, or people could divide themelves into artists, musicians, programmers, designers, animators..

edit: It seems m0ds was planning to return this in the summer? In that case, foget all I just said :P

Another thing, and this again depends on how many other people are interested, a competition for writing/designing a game was suggested here:
http://www.agsforums.com/yabb/index.php?board=9;action=display;threadid=12098
suggested by Migs (kinda).
I think this is a good idea, as I like writing game designs personally (some kind of template could be made), anyone else share my opinion?
Maybe Migs will host the comp, but if not I might want to :).

P.s. One problem with such a competition is that once I make a game design, I would want to keep it to myself, and possibly make it someday, and also there might be the issue of people not wanting an idea stolen.

Heh, I must be really paranoid today ::). So many crazy things happening :D
Nice game, and funny song too.

Well what do you know, my name is 5 letters  ::)
Hehe, I'd like to see my name in that game :)

Hmm, I have a nagging suspicion that this page is unsafe, but for the heck of it (and because my curiosity is overwhelming :P), I'll try it :D.

Examples, as in open-source games?
There are a few, but not many make them so another forum would be unneccessary:
There are some GUI templates somewhere, aswell as a verb-coin gui and open source platformerius here:
http://ilb.notrix.net/
And there's BlueGUI, I dunno the link, it's in someone's signature. :P

Brr, spiders.... ;D
Amazing sprites everyone!

Woot, how didn't I notice this until now?
I'll try and whip up a quick BG :)
I love myths!
Great entries so far :)

Ooh, that's funny, I just saw a message by you in irc which I didn't get right away (you had a different name).
Yep, i remember this, can't wait for the betatesting, it looks awesome! Great fantasy style, and the main character is hilarious. :)

Love the font of that text on the screenies, did you make it?
