:) I do wonder, I notice in my story there are two places to see the theme of betrayal. I wonder how each person sees it.

Spoiler
One is betrayal by god, and one is a certain betrayal of Michael by Yonatan. Originally I meant the former but either works.

As for the epistolary style (I had to look it up and will now pretend that I knew what it is all the time;)), it just seemed to fit best, but I know you didn't get exactly what kind of letter it is. Another friend of mine didn't either, after reading the hebrew translation. I wonder if I was too vague.

Also, if it interests anyone, Keren means 'ray' in hebrew. The other names have their.. reasons :P.

There it is, after 3 drafts ;)

It's a doc file so you can either save it or read it in the browser, I don't care ;).

edit: found a typo

General Discussion / Re: Hey dudes I'm back!

Welcome back Minimi:) Wow, has it really been that long? I didn't notice this year passing at all. It's cause I've had so much fun I guess, hope it was the same for you. Looking forward to see your new games!

And SSH, what's this protest you're talking about?

What REALLY happened to the first astornaut.

Yeah, he was killed and his bones are spread all over the planet.

Sorry for the sloppiness. I had to use paint cause photoshop didnt load up:P

The GUI design fits perfectly. I find altering existing GUIs to fit the theme specifically and have an original design makes even the most generic interface seem new.
Great article, though a bit short for my tastes;).  I'm looking for the next one on animations, a subject that fascinates me. Whenever that comes. :)

You know, I think doing the game programming together would be a bit messy, unless you do it in turns. For example one person works on the GUI and preliminary rooms and such while the others work on art, story and music. Then you could pass it on to the next person who could put in the final room art, draw the hotspots and areas, add descriptions and "meat" to the skeleton, and so on.
Another option, which I think might mess things up if you're not careful, is sharing all the game files and then each one can work on a seperate room, and if they want to change something in the gloabal script aswell they would post a notice about it to keep all the files consistent.
Anyway, I like doing my scripting bit by bit while making every thing I complete ready so I dont need to touch it again, but I could adapt I guess if ever I was to program alongside someone.

Oh, and Welcome:)

Not too loose a theme though.. Sometimes without a strong enough theme (could even be a location I guess) it's hard to find inspiration. Anyway, I'm all for this competition, I've been feeling like writing lately. ;)

Great to see this new release! I was going to wait until it's final, but I didn't, and I seem to have found some glitch/bug/something -

When editing GUIs, I cannot change the default state of a Button's left click property. So for example, in the default game template, I can't change any of the buttons in the Iconbar to do anything other than 'Set Cursor Mode', and with any other button it seems to be stuck on 'Run Script'.

Did anyone else have this problem?

That's all, one entry? I had thought at least a few people would be interested in writing about something as macabre as being buried alive..
Then again, I've been getting very influenced by Poe lately.

General Discussion / Re: A show with a parrot

Oh yeah, I saw that somewhere else once and then it was gone, it was called einstein there. I dunno, maybe it IS because I havn't had a parrot, but it's funny ;).

:o Lovely. Really atmospheric!

Keep 'em coming!

My graphics card needs replacing to play it, but I'm going to buy it anyway, and have patience until I can get a new card :).

Btw, in case someone hasn't seen this, there's an old interview with Tim Schafer here: http://gamestudies.org/0301/pearce/
It's pretty long and I found it quite interesting. I never knew Tim gave so many interviews.

Rules: Every week (or so) a post will be made with a list of items and a scenario. Using your wit, skill and lack of mental health; find a way to complete the scenario with the items provided. You can only use a set number of items of your own choice. When I say use your skill, use it.

For example: you have a boulder and a reinforced window. I advise not using Pick Up boulder chuck through window. Think of something adventuresque to use.

Voting: After the week voting shall commence!

What If I win?: The winner chooses the next scenario and list of items.
________________________________________________________

The scenario is thus: You must invent any intro you want in which the player ends up underground, buried alive, 6 feet under. The spookier the better. The puzzle is obvious: get out before you stop breathing (lets say for fairness the hole is quite big. you might be in a coffin at first, or any other restrainments, or none at all).

You start the game with the following items (at least 2 of them must be used):
a can of lemonade
spoon
engagement ring
machete
a REALLY good book
a flashlight
a gun with only one bullet in it
2 items of your choice - which must make sense regarding the backstory of how you got there

You may find under the ground any amount of items of your own, as long as they are logical items, and one of them is a worm.

Finally, I want to see one or two things in the puzzle which show the atmosphere of the game, by scaring the player or whatever.

Go!!!

Critics' Lounge / Re: What's in a name?
Tue 26/04/2005 14:34:33
Hmm, Chains of Darkness is the best of the names on that first list, but still a bit boring. I like Prodigy too.
I'd like to follow Snarky in dissecting some game names, commercial ones though.

Full Throttle
This name gives you a good impression about the game's theme, bikes and all, but the added twist to it that simply makes the difference is that the characters name is actually "Ben Throttle".

This is what I wanted to talk about, as integrating some character name or some detail from the story into the name can really work.

Hey there, welcome aboard, CrocsGoSnap. Should we call you crocs or snap? (I don't think 'go' will work) ;). Have fun on the forums!

2ma2: Perhaps sector was a bad choice of words on my part. I didn't mean games are divided into sectors or chapters that are independant, I just meant that I should make a change in my habit of finishing games in 1-3 sittings, and instead play them bit by bit. Sorry for the incomprehensible sentence ;). It was, erm.. late.. :D
I can also relate a bit to what Snarky said about starting games. I sometimes feel I need the right atmosphere, need to have all my focus on the game, all unrelated programs closed (except IRC. How could I close IRC? :D), and if the game is important enough, I might turn off the phone and the lights for a complete experience of immersion. And much as this obsession of sorts can be annoying and hinder me from playing games, I feel it makes the gaming experience much better. I enjoyed Apprentice 2 intro immensly after such a setup, and did manage to quit later and take a break, surprisingly.

I felt like entering, dunno why ^^. Not a big fan of indoors either.
Laziness kicked in right after I drew the walls and the fridge..

It's supposed to look like a camera has been placed inside an oven on the counter.. ;)

It depends on the mood I'm in, in my case. When I just want a little quick adventure fun, I like a short game, since for playing a long game through, I need to set the right atmosphere and give it my full concentration, as I dont like getting distracted. However, thats part of the reason I haven't played a lot of the full length games, lack of time.
Sometimes, for a story to be really immersive and make the right impression, a certain length is required. Some stories might have the best impact when made into a short game, and some, particularly those that involve character development and/or epic quests, require a full length game. It wouldn't make much sense to me to argue which is better for people to be making, since the appeal of the amateur scene is, in part, the fact that everyone makes whatever game they want.
Thanks god the Games page divides games by length ;)

P.S. I always felt I can't really play games in sectors, I like to take it in all at once most of the time, and so I need to make a lot of free time to play a full length game. Perhaps I should get in the habit of playing those more bit by bit, that would let me play a lot more of the games I'm missing.
