The article is by Scarpia, and can be found here:
http://junk.dk/puzzle/

Yes that's the one.
After I posted and turned off the computer, I checked the print out of it and it said Scarpia. A great article IMO.
Does anyone happen to know if the example of puzzle implementation he shows at the end actually exists as a game? I'd be very interested to play it.
:)

An eye for an eye.
hehe, I like it, though like you said, it needs hair, eyebrows and eyelashes I suppose.
Great work!

What program did you use?

I suppose he forgot. Happens to me all the time, the difference is he as a guest, couldn't edit.

I had figured out everything but the
Spoiler
blanket
[close]
which seemed a bit odd, it's in a square pattern which woul make it hard to read, but in any case, great puzzle!
I loved the
Spoiler
old woman. It's especcially funny because it shows Pib has been an apprentice for quite some time... hehe. The second version is also hilarious. :D And one of the best animations I've ever seen is shown when Pib jumps on the desk, it's wonderful!! Too bad the little 'alien being' stuatue broke. And it's so valuable too.. ;) :D.

I must once again praise you for your animations. I think it would be interesting if you demonstrated (that is, Ian) in the art advice thread the frames and maybe explained how you drew it, though not neccessarilly. If you want to of course.

Btw, have you read an article called Application og Puzzle Theory? It's one of my favorite articles (damn, can't remember who wrote it, it's someone from the froums), and it points out animations are important in games. A lot. Just wondering. ;)

I think it might not be losing the ability (though it's very possible) but losing the love for adventure games, and also losing the talented people who made MI and GF and DOTT etc..
(Is the S&M sequel being made by the same person who made the original? I think he's joint project leader, I forgot his name).

Tim Schafer is no longer there, and I really don't understand why he's working with the evil Microsoft who don't want Psychonuats available on PC. hehe, j/k.
However, LucasArts must leave GF alone if Tim Schafer isn't there to make it. GF is perfect and the ending is wonderful, but I think it wouldn't be ruined if a sequel at least as good as the original(or better...imagine that, better than GF.. I woudl flip ;)). Right after finishing the game, I was left wanting more, and I had an idea of the train breaking down and Manny having to return to the 8th underworld etc... But it doesn't seem good now. I guess new characters are a must unless they want to show us the 9th underworld (which could be interesting as "the land of eternal rest" might not be at rest for some reason. But of course that would mean no Glottis *sniff*, unless there's a way of going back to the 8th underworld for some reason, and I should really shut up now :P), but a GF without Manny, Meche, Glottis and some of the others maybe, is something I can't even imagine. No, the characters must stay. Err.

Also, Ron Gilbert didn't make MI3, though it turned out pretty well IMO, but I think many people would object to an MI5 without Ron.

(Yes, I know, rethorical question, but you got me going ;)).

Oh but I've forgotten what the topic is, ah yes, Fullt Throttle. I haven't played it yet, just can't find it. Since Tim is responsible for it I am definetly getting it at the first chance. So about the sequel, without Tim it wouldn't be as good, so I have to say I'm somewhat glad they cancelled it.
They better not touch S&M II though, I'm really looking forward to it. ;)

Lol, he linked to the screenshot of it. The gradients become not smooth, err, if you know what I mean:

Actually, when I look at it, I find the screwed up image more interesting than the smooth original one. Maybe I'm just weird. ;)

Welcome! Another girl almost exactly my age, hehe ;).

Where are you from?
Ou habites tu? (just practising my french ;))

I talk to myself all the time :D.

A very undepressing pure fun song I know (in french):
La bonne franquette. I dunno, I just like it.

Listeneing to sad music can be fun sometimes but when your depressed it feels terrible.
Boredom is ussually the cause for me to get depressed. That's why I ahven't been depressed for a long time now, I've always had what to do (mainly making a game).

 :o :o
It looks, sounds, and is, incredible!
I love the music, the screenshots, everything!
I'm keeping a close eye on this.. ;)

They look great!
The first Esquan looks a bit like his hands are disappearing into the pants. Sorta.
The feet seem odd, but maybe they're supposed to be like that.
There's nothing else I can find that's wrong with it.

I especcially like the expressions, they them character. :)

Amazing, Pessi!

I looks like Pessi used a gradient on the water and smeared the reflections with the smudge tool for waves, though I can't be sure.
:)

hehe, nice story!
It's very funny and would probably be even funnier for me if I had seen the movie.
(It only just arrived in Israel, and isn't in out cinema yet. I can't wait to see it.)

Keep it up! :)

I don't know about Paint but in Photoshop (and PSP too probably) you can go to Image>Mode>Indexed Color to make the image 256 colors. I just tried it with 100% dithering and Preserve Exact colors.

Tip: I read in a tutorial (who wrote it I can't remember now) that to reduce a game's size when using hi-color, you can change your image to have 227 colors (the number of free slots in the pallette). I did this with your image:

http://www.2dadventure.com/ags/Bedroom1.bmp

Try it and tell me if it works. :)

I left it as a bmp for convinience.
When posting here I'd use one of the formats scotch mentioned.

Btw, AGS also uses PCX, but they aren't appropriate for posting online.

I'm in, the idea sounds great!

I like it overall, and I wish my first attemp could look like that, but I think it needs contrast, if it's to be used in a game, even in a cutscene. There must be a lot of dust in the air to make the water have that colour, lol.
Maybe if you change the water's color (I didn't actually realise it was water at first) it will give the image some contrast.
That depends of course on what lies at the bottom of the water, and also on how deep it is. If there's sand beneath then I guess the color is appropriate.

Overall though, great background, the shading is splendid. :)

Hmm, I dunno what the problem is, but maybe if you're using FaceLocation (EGO, x, y); or something like that then maybe you should try FaceCharacter (EGO, X);   X being the other character.
I don't see why this would happen though.

Can you post your script for that part?
#816
About the bending, the character won't bend on his own, you need to make an animation first. Since you're using Roger and the tutorial, it doesn't matter.
#817
Sounds great!
I love the noir feeling and the main character sounds interesting just from this paragraph. Sounds very moody, also.
There isn't really anything I can criticise.

I'm sure this will be a great game :).

General Discussion / Re:guy or gal

I think it doesn't matter, and I have no preference.
I would rather play an interesting male than a female without character, and vise versa.

I love Grim Fandango, which has a male character, and I love TLJ, which has a female character. What makes me love these games and they're characters isn't their protagonist's gender, it's the personality.

In the amateur adventure scene, there seem to be very little female protagonists, but that shouldn't be the reason that you make a game with a female character, the reason should be that it fits into the story to have a female. Of course, ussually the protagonist's gender isn't important, so it's all down to personal taste.
I think that I, like Barcik, like playing someone different from myself, which is why I like Manny from GF more than April from TLJ, but then again it could be just better writing of the character.

So each person prefers something else, but any character is good as long as it's well written and interesting. :)

Well, to start, there are tutorials here on many things:

http://www.agsforums.com/acres.shtml

The first 2 are the tutorials to start with, and they can be found in the manual too. Just read through the manual and these tutorials, then learn more as you go I suppose.

When you have a problem, you can always ask here of course (but check the other resources first).

Have fun with AGS! (and nice nickname btw ;))

That's awesome! Fame to CJ! :)

I'll read the other parts later when they are available as PDF. Too bad they don't sell PCPlus in Israel.
