Hints & Tips / Re:Apprentice?

As for getting the oregano powder:

Spoiler
ask the master about it if you haven't, he says it grows nearby. Have you seen any plants?
Lloyd will help too, though not directly ;).

Enjoy the game! I reccomend trying to beat the game yourself, it's not that hard, if I did it, and I almost always need hints (or am I just getting better? :o). Anyway it's short so make the most of it. Plus there are tons of in-game hints, pay attention to dialogs and descriptions of things..

Hmm..
At a second read, I like GG's idea better actully, though as misterx explained it, it sounds like something more paranormal and mysterious than a say, murder, should happen. This could be done with dif characters, but I don't quite see what puzzles could be used. Maybe just a few chars, each you play for a little while and then whatever is supposed to happen happens, and then you play someone who you must save from the fate, as GG said.

Like I mentioned, what I wrote sounds too much like Sliders, it was just an afterthought. But I think there should be something horrible in the room, I mean, that it should be something more paranormal. :)

Very nice! Those animations are great! I like Yoda and Jabba the Hutt, and Luke especcially! The idea is great too, cause there are action games made about star wars when it should be adventure! :P j/k. It's a great idea :).

Yeah, the house shouldn't appear in the first day, it won't be of much use anyway. Have you found a way to get measurment/meausring tape?

At this url you can find the same tablet as me :
http://www.trust.com/products/productgrp.htm?grp=TABLET

It's about 80 dollar maybee less, at the moment... i think you can have one for 60

Thanks, unfortunately my "nearest dealer" for the company is in Greece, and I live in Israel...
So not really possible (unless I can order online? I didn't see an option, though there's an option to register).
Thanks anyway. hmm 60-80$ is ok I guess. That's about 240-320 shekels, a little less since the dollar is dropping here. It's a bit expensive even though I have 2000 shekels (approx. 500$), since it's just for fun, but I'll see, maybe I can find it cheaper, I don't need a really good one, I might get a proffesional one if I see that my kills improve, maybe when I'm grown up.

Just to get the feel of it, how do you basically use a tablet?

Sounds very interesting! You could have the main character just being on a trip somewhere and he gets a room in a hotel, "you're in room 5, sir", and he walks in and then...
Well, I'm not quite sure what is supposed to happen, what the oom is supposed to do, but maybe he gets sucked into a vortex thing and appears in a different universe or something. Hmm, this sounds a bit too much like 'Sliders'. Anyway, his goals - get home, and defeat the force of room number 5 so that he can rid the world of all evil(!!!!) (actually the force is just in your way).
Lol. Anyway this just a little idea. Good luck with the game! :)

Could you tell us more about your game? Have you developed your idea about Room number 5?
I saw the drawing of the main character (I think he's the main character, though I could be wrong), and it looks great!

edit: And of course you've done nothing wrong. No mistakes to learn from lol.
#949
youv'e played one game? *fills with envy*
You get to experience them all from the start, ah...
Don't use walkthroughs! They ruin the game, instead, use hints only when absolutely neccessary ( www.uhs-hints.com ) or ask in the Hints and Tips forum.

"well since you're a begginer, why don't you practise the first step? Blo..I mean, Play!"
lol, sorry, random quote came up, anyway, I'm still not quite sure what games to reccomend, in commercial games the easiest was syberia, but then again the puzzles are mostly mechanical so I dunno. The Longest Journey (TLJ) might be a good start but maybe a little later on. As for amteur games, just go here.
All games made in AGS, sorted into categories.

As for making, all I can say is start with a story, then when it's complete think of polished, after that it might be a food idea to expand your story to full detail, then work out a scene by scene layout (you can sketch each scene or just describe it) and at the same time detail out the puzzles.

Oh and read articles! Articles are fun to read, imforming and just plain useful! ;)

Tutorials are also very useful. There's a list of tutorials in the tutorial thread in the critic's lounge. :)

Are you completely new to Adventure games? I mean entirely, know nothing about them?

As for being a newbie here, just be yourself and don't imsult anyone, that's all really. :)

I'm stuck with a few little things lol, I want to do as much as the game on my own as possible. Subtle hints are preferable.

Spoiler
I try to use the saddle on the horse but I can't, Pib says it'll chafe the horse (I'm not quite sure what that means actually).
How do I get the sheep away? Does it have anything to do with the highwaywoman wanting to count them?

edit: Ok, I figured the sheep out lol, and I really do hope he'll forgive me lol.

edit2: Ok, I figured out the horse too, so really no question left, except maybe how to get the sandwich from the highwaywoman, but I'm sure I'll figure it out soon.
:)
edit3: Got it. I now have all three ingredients. This game is awesome!

Completed Game Announcements / Re:Apprentice!

OMG this game rocks! I have just started and I adore the animations and I lauged out loud many times already from the dialog. This game is wonderful, the graphics are great, the puzzles are funny and very well done, and Lloyd is sweet! I just love the animation when Pib tries to oepn the closet. Hilarious and beautifully done! All the animations are. :)

I also really like the world you created, with Pib calling the dolphin an alien creature etc, it cracked me up! :D

Small bug\thing- in the kitchen of the tower, if you walk into the counter closest to the exit (while walking towards the exit) Pib is behind it and we see his head above it and his legs below. I found when walking outside, it really doesn't matter much lol.

Oh and the music is brilliant, it really makes me think fantasy, magic etc. You composed if I'm not mistaken, I think you said so in the thread with the screenie. Anyway, it superb!

This game (though short if you look at the size of the zip) is great and has commercial quality. Brilliant. I also really liked the sound the robot made while speaking. ;)

edit: I forgot to mention, great GUI!

Ok, I finished the game! Hilarious ending, though the game is too short! I want more of this excellence! lol. I adored this game! So wonderful! Everything is great! It crashed a few times but aminly cause I Alt-Tabbed too much. Are you planning a sequel?

edit: Just reading your website (nice lolgo!), I'm looking forward to The Find as well (or anything by lol).
oh and;

"Someday, maybe, If I get enough feedback and support, I might turn Apprentice into a full-blown Lucasarts-eque journey. Financial persuasion is always welcome."

Please do! This game is just screaming for it! I really love this game, there's something in it that makes it special. I believe it's the effort you put in and the fact that you made it for fun. Or it could be the sticky cheese :P. ;)

edit 2:

Spoiler, don't read if you havent finished the game!
Spoiler
I really liked the cheese puzzle actually, it took me a little while to get the connection between the cheeze recipe and the saddle, but I got it and it seemed oly too logical that there would be enzymes left.
All the puzzles were funny and well hinted of lol at least to me.

At the end, I got a bit dissapointed that it'll be over when he says "hello wizardhood" meaning that the game would end, but when the "spell" was revealed I thought maybe the game will continue, but unfortunately no. It's still brilliant though. Short and sweet. :P
I would really love to see a sequel/full game made of it. :)

Lol!

Actually, it's good to plan in your head (and on paper if possible) first, and then when you have at least a bit (like a scene ;)) planned out then you need to create artwork and characters. So it's ok to hold off the ags editor for a while.

Anyway, good luck, and I'm looking forward to seeing the demo! :)

I think it's great! Your'e right, the legs look a bit strange, but overall it's very good, especcially the face.
I think she looks better in blue, the black dress looks flat because the shading is black too, whereas on blue the black shading gives it depth.
Very nice. :)

IM sent.

Btw, ar you planning voice acting for the game? Just wondering. It would be great with voice acting. Of course, it'll be great without as well ;).
#956
I think animation isn't crucial (as it is very hard to do), but if you can, by all means, do it, it really enchances the gaming experience and improves the graphics. I also reccomend idle animations and background animations, like a leaf flying past etc (and these are actually easier to do than walking).

Also I think many games might benefit from voice acting. I know many people disagree but I think voice acting can be very nice and it isn't that hard to do IMO. Though bad voice acting can be a very bad thing for a game, so umm.. Anyway, it's also important to provide an option to turn off voice acting, or provide a seperate smaller download without the voice files, and a zip bundle with the files in it.

Umm, about humor, I think there should be a bit in almost any game (unless it's really out of place and out of character), but not the kind of jokes you see sometimes, humor that comes from the situation, humor in dialogs, and sarcasm. It should come naturally and not be forced...
Ok, I'm done repeating what was said already lol..

Art: Indeed, not everyone can achieve great art (and don't I know it :P), but staying consistent and making sure characters and background fit together is key. That's why photo-backgrounds with drawn characters are a bad idea, they don't fit in, unless the characters look really photographic and realistic.

I agree about drippling water and torches.

Actually I think the cracks look kinda nice curved, but maybe seeing them different will change my mind..
#958
Here is my ultra-crappy attemp :P.

Gah, only now I see how terrible it is :P.

The weird shapes are to give it a psychodelic feel. Well actually I culdn't get it straight so I went random. lol

Necro, how do you do that? That is just friggin awesome!
I need a tutor. Not a tutorial, a tutor. :P

Sure that sounds great Neole ;).
Hmm, who is the missing member I wonder... Rofl.

I'd be glad to be a critic\consultant\ideabank(hehe)! :)

If it's too late, no matter, I'll still love the finished product! And I'm glad you liked the ideas :).

IM me with the desicion.
Or post here, doesn't matter really lol.

I also wanted to ask if there had been any more threads on this game that I missed. So far I think this is the 5th?

two people until my turn, wow, this thing is going faster than I thought...
I keep wondering what kind of nightmare will be sent to me lol  ;).
Though it does sound like it's going along well. :)
Rock on! :P
